Irresistible for The Peculiars

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is a novel written by Ransom Riggs that was first published in June, 2011 Publisher: Quirk Books Genres: YA Literature, Fantasy Age Range: 13 - 17 years Followed by: Hollow City Library of Souls then there is also an additional books you can read if you can't get enough of the peculiar children series: Tales of The Peculiar Miss Peregrine's Journal for Peculiar Children Synopsis and Opinion The premise: Jacob grew up on his grandfather’s stories about his own childhood during World War II. Supposedly his grandfather escaped the Holocaust by taking refuge on a Welsh island, at an orphanage that catered to children with strange powers. The grandfather even has photos to prove it. As Jacob grows up, he loses faith in his grandfather, and assumes the stories were fantasies, the photos faked. But when a horrible, inexplicable tragedy occurs, Jacob has to reevaluate. Could those stories have been real? Could this island refuge still exist so many years later? And is it possible his grandfather’s paranoia about ‘monsters’ wasn’t just paranoia? This book has been getting a lot of well-deserved attention for the way it incorporates unusual antique photographs into the narrative. Even without the photos, this would be a gripping story, but the photos add an irresistible element of mystery. The first-person narration is authentic, funny, and poignant. Though I couldn't really relate to the character Jacob and he came across as whiny, ...

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - Ann Brashares 19/02/2017

Sisterhood is for life.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - Ann Brashares This book captures the spirit of friendship in the most charming and marvellously entertaining manner possible. Ann Brashares creates a world where it is possible for four friends, as different as they can be to form a long lasting and deeply gratifying friendship. They care for each other, love each other, put aside fights and offer support any time, every time, everywhere. They share the strongest bond of friendships: sisterhood. Lena is the reluctant beauty; Carmen is feisty and smart; Tibby is "that teen" who is mad-at-the-world; and Bridget, is the badass athlete, over-achiever. They all are friends literally before they even born (their mums shared a preggers-aerobics class). After years always spending most days and every summer together, inseparable, this summer is when the four are parted for the first time. Lena is off to Greece to meet her grandparents. Carmen to spend some quality time with her divorced dad in South Carolina. Bridget to Baja California (in Mexico, who knew) for summer camp and Tibby is stuck at home, cutting a minimum wage at Wallman’s. When Carmen accompanied Lena, her sister and her mum to a thrift-shop, she came across a well-worn pair of soft jeans and decided to buy it but forgotten as soon as it was bought. The pants unexpectedly fits all four girls like magic, despite their different body proportions, making each of them feel sexy and giving them much-needed confidence. The pants symbolises strength, love, comfort, and courage. They ...

Vampire Academy 6: Last Sacrifice - Richelle Mead 18/02/2017

Brilliant Vampires Series: Academy Edition.

Vampire Academy 6: Last Sacrifice - Richelle Mead Though I was given the third book as a gift and had it for as long as I could remember, I never think to pick it up. But then I came across the movie and I was skeptical at first but the storyline was different than what we would expect from a vampire stories these days and knowing they might not make the second movie, being an avid fantasy reader as I am, I decided to read the series books. There are six main books in the Vampire Academy series: 1. Vampire Academy: The life of 17-year-old Rosemarie Hathaway, commonly known as Rose, a dhampir and her Moroi best friend Vasilisa "Lissa" Dragomir after being brought back to their school, St Vladimir's Academy, after being on the run for two years. 2. Frostbite: Continues the story of Rose Hathaway including her bond with Princess Vasilisa "Lissa" Dragomir. But in this book, she keeps getting stuck in Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian. Followed with her budding romance with her instructor Dimitri Belikov who seem to has his eye on someone else, and her bestfriend, Mason, who has a huge crush one her. As she's catching up with all of her education in becoming a Guardian, a nearby Strigoi attack puts St. Vladimir's on high alert, and the Academy decided to whisks its students away on a mandatory holiday ski trip to ease the worries of the parents. But the glittering winter landscape and posh resort only provide the illusion of safety. When three students run away to strike back against the ...
