Red Hot World Buffet, Manchester 12/07/2011

Best meal of my life

Red Hot World Buffet, Manchester This is a fairly new restaurant in Manchester. The idea is very simple: it is a buffet with cuisine from all around the world. I love the idea because it means you don't have to decide whether you want Italian or Indian for dinner- you just have both! I was very excited to visit this restaurant and was in the area last week with a friend, deciding where to eat. I suggested that we go to the world buffet and, well, that's how I ended up there! The world buffet is in Deansgate, Manchester. There are other branches of it in Leeds, Liverpool, Milton Keyes, Northampton and Nottingham. The foods available differ at each restaurant. We weren't sure exactly where we were going but soon found the restaurant. When we saw it I remember commenting: 'It's much smaller than I thought it would be', as it just had a very small doorway. However, as we walked inside it was clear that it was much bigger on the inside. A lady greeted us on entry and directed us up the large sweeping red staircase. Downstairs there was also a bar. When we reached the top of the stairs a waiter found us a table. Overall, I found the staff to be very pleasant and polite. Upstairs the restaurant is huge. It was incredibly busy for a Thursday night but there were still several free tables. A waitress explained to us what to do and we were eager to get our first plate of food. The food is set out on different tables, one for each type of cuisine. You simply walk through them all and help yourself. The types of ...

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs 05/06/2011

My perfect product for perfect looking skin

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Some of you may have read about my recent experiences with fake tan in previous reviews. For those of you who haven't, i'll just say this: Me and fake tan don't work well together. It always either comes out patchy or orange or doesn't work at all. So after my fake tan fiasco in the spring, I was thinking i'd have to be deathly pale all summer, which I really don't want. Then I remembered about this product: Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs. I used it a year or two ago, but not as a fake tan. Last time I bought it in a shade similar to my own skin and used it to cover up thread veins, and this worked kind of like a foundation to cover up imperfections. The difference being, of course, that this is for your body not your face. However, I decided to buy it in a darker shade and use it instead of fake tan. It costs £10.20 from Boots or Superdrug, however Superdrug currently have it on offer for £7.70. It comes in four shades: light glow, medium glow, tan glow and deep glow. I went for the 'tan glow' because I wanted to look tanned but not too much as i'm very pale naturally and didn't want it to look fake. One thing I like about this much more than fake tan is that you can see it as you apply it, so you know where you may have missed a bit. Therefore it is very easy to get even coverage all over. It is easy to apply; simply spray it onto your body and rub it in. I should mention that whilst it is called airbrush legs, I have used it all over my body. It's sort of a cross between ...

Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment 31/05/2011

Hair growth treatment

Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment I read about this in a magazine a couple of months ago and my first thoughts were that no hair product will make your hair grow faster. However, I trust Lee Stafford as a brand and if a product COULD aid hair growth I would love to use it. My hair is about chest length but it seems to pretty much stop growing once it gets to this length and i'd really like it to be longer. So I read up on the product online and found that it doesn't actually promise to make your hair grow. What it does is creates the right conditions for hair growth. This sounded slightly more believable. The product also promises to improve strength, texture, volume and feel of hair. I bought this product for £7.99 for a 200ml tub from Boots. This is quite expensive because it doesn't go very far, but more on that later. It comes in a bright pink tub which is very feminine and to be honest I really like it. The very same day I tried out the product for the first time. You use it in between shampoo and conditioner when washing your hair and leave it on for five minutes. The first thing I noticed when I used it was the scent. It smells lovely; a bit like other Lee Stafford products but maybe even better. I wish I could describe the scent but as hard as i'm trying I can't quite say what it smells like. It is very easy to apply and you simply massage it into the hair from root to tip. I was surprised by how much I needed to use to cover my hair, and a little disappointed as I realised that the tub wouldn't ...

Maybelline Volume Express Mascara 28/05/2011

Another wonderful mascara from Maybelline

Maybelline Volume Express Mascara You may have read my previous reviews on Maybelline mascaras, and if you have you have you'll know that in my opinion Maybelline is the best make of mascaras. I have tried a lot of mascaras over the last few years but since the first time I used a Maybelline mascara I have never used any other brand. I have, however, tried several Maybelline mascaras and have been happy with the results of all of them. My previous mascara was running out a couple of weeks ago so I went to Boots and bought the cheapest Maybelline mascara there, which happened to be this one. It cost me £6.19 for a 10ml tube and is the same price from Superdrug. It's not as cheap as some mascaras but it doesn't break the bank either. I haven't found any other mascara that cheap, that isn't Maybelline, that works nearly as well as Maybelline mascaras do. This mascara comes in a black tube with shimmery pink writing. it is quite a plain tube and to be honest I really like it. It's simple but elegant, feminine and sexy. When my old mascara ran out I was looking forward to trying this one. I fount the first time that I used it that my eyelashes stuck together a bit and I didn't really like it. However, I was in a rush that day so didn't get time to try to sort it out. The next time I used it my eyelashes stuck together a little again but I managed to sort it out. I've been using it for a few weeks now and don't have the problem with my eyelashes sticking together anymore, so maybe it just took a couple of days ...

The Loved Ones (DVD) 22/05/2011

Is this film finger- lickin' good?

The Loved Ones (DVD) 'The loved ones' is an Australian horror/ thriller film written and directed by Sean Byrne. I'm not really into horror films but one night I was babysitting and there was nothing on TV. I noticed this was on and, knowing nothing at all about it I thought it sounded like quite a nice film. Well... it turned out I was completely wrong. THE PLOT Brent Mitchell is a teenager who is dealing with the death of his father, who he killed in a car accident. When his classmate Lola, a seemingly innocent girl, asks him to the end of school dance, he turns her down as he is going with his good looking girlfriend, Holly. Lola clearly doesn't like rejection as she decides to get revenge by having her "daddy" kidnap Brent abruptly. Brent is taken to Lola's house and dressed up in a tuxedo, then tied to a chair. Lola changes into a prom dress and her and her father can torture him in all sorts of ways to the theme of a high school dance. The torture is gory and at times I found it difficult to watch. However, I don't think the torture methods are as imaginative or unique as those used in many other horror films. The film also has incestrial undertones as it seems that Lola and her daddy have a crush on one another. Just another disgusting element to the film. I'll also mention here that the title of my review, for those of you who haven't seen the film, comes from a scene in the film during which Lola force feeds Brent chicken and forces him to answer the question: "Is it finger- licking ...

Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo 20/05/2011

Revitalise greasy hair

Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo Dry shampoo basically revitalises your hair in between washes. This means that if your hair is a bit greasy but you don't have time to wash it you can just spray in some dry shampoo to soak up the grease. Batiste dry shampoo is available from Superdrug, Boots and several other stores including a lot of chemists and supermarkets. I tend to buy it from Superdrug where it costs £2.19 for a 150ml can of dry shampoo in Blush. Other scents cost the same and the coloured dry shampoos are £3.05. I chose this one because I first bought it before the coloured ones came out and I think blush has the nicest scent. I find the can is attractive and feminine. It is pink and green with a green lid. The can has clear instructions on how to use the product. Basically, you shake the can vigorously, hold about 30cm from the hair and brush through. It is very easy to use. The scent is sort of sweet and slightly floral; very nice in my opinion. It is quite a strong scent but it doesn't linger much once you finish spraying it. The product comes out as a white powder but when you run your fingers or a brush through your hair the whiteness disappears. It soaks up grease and also increases volume in the hair; nobody will notice you haven't washed it. I find this product to work miracles when I haven't washed my hair; it gets rid of grease and adds life to my hair very easily. I first bought it expecting to not use it that often but now I use it nearly every day on my fringe and every two or three ...

Impulse Hint of Musk Body Spray 16/05/2011

Follow your impulses

Impulse Hint of Musk Body Spray It was a while ago that I first used this body spray. If I remember correctly, there were three things which attracted me to it initially. First, it was £1.99 but on a buy one get one free offer. Second, it was in a very pretty can. And third, I love musk but wanted something subtle. So let's go back to the price for a moment. From both Superdrug and Boots, this body spray costs £1.99 for 75ml, but it is often on offer in Superdrug. I think it's good price. It is also available from a wide range of supermarkets and chemists. Now the packaging. It comes in a cream coloured can. On the front are butterflies and hearts and flowers all making up the shape of a heart. The design is in gold. Overall, I really like the can. I would say it is classy and elegant and also very pretty and feminine. The instructions on the can are simple: "Spray it all over your body and enjoy its captivating scent.". Well, I suppose no one really needs much instruction on how to use a body spray. It is very easy to use; you simply twist the top of the can to the right then press down on the top to spray. You then twist the top back to the left when you're done. The can describes the scent as '"An alluring combination of lime, jasmine and woody scents." The lime and jasmine are definitely there but very subtle. The woody scent is stronger. Overall it is definitely musky but not overpoweringly so. It smells clean and feminine and really nice in my opinion. The smell is quite strong just as you ...

Quickies Nail Varnish Remover Pads 14/05/2011

Quickly remove nail varnish with quickies

Quickies Nail Varnish Remover Pads The first time I used these I borrowed them off my sister. I previously used liquid nail varnish remover but had ran out. My first impression of Quickies was that they come in an attractive little pink pot. There are 20 in a pack and they are enriched with vitamin B5 which nourishes and strengthens nails. The pads are quite thin but thick enough. They are textured on one side but wet on both so it is possible to use both sides. The texture on one side does help to remove polish but it comes very easily when using the other side too. I was incredibly impressed with how quickly and easily my nail varnish came off. The pads have a nice scent which is hard to describe but it is quite sweet and slightly fruity. One pad is usually enough to remove nail varnish from either all of my fingernails or all of my toenails however this does depend on the nail varnish: I sometimes need to use two pads to remove dark nail varnish. I can't really tell the effects of the vitamin B5 on my nails after using these pads. To me, my nails always seem quite dry after but this may be beacuse of the nail varnish rather than the remover pads. They leave my fingers feeling a bit greasy but the greasy feeling goes when I wash my hands. A tub of quickies lasts me a while but they never dry out if I leave the lid screwed tightly on. Quickies are available from Superdrug for £2.03 and from chemists and supermarkets for similar prices. For this price you get 20 nail varnish remover pads so I think ...

Garnier Ambre Solaire No Streaks Bronzer Dry Body Mist Light 12/05/2011

Dodgy fake tan

Garnier Ambre Solaire No Streaks Bronzer Dry Body Mist Light I decided to try this product because i'm really pale and don't tan very much. I have tried fake tan products in the past but end up either orange, streaky or exactly the same colour as before I used the fake tan. I have also used wash off tans because they are often visible as you put them on so you can check if it's even. However, this year I didn't want one that will wash off. I planned to research fake tan products properly, read reviews, and spend a little more than I have done in the past in the hope that it would be worth it. So after finding, examining, and reading reviews on many fake tan products I decided on Ambre solaire. I bought the dry face mist as well as the dry body mist. I also have a review on the dry face mist if you are interested. I bought this from Superdrug for £7.72 for a 150ml can, however this is a reduced price; it is usually £11.22. They do one for fair skin and one for medium skin, so even though i'm very pale skinned, I went for the medium one because I wanted to see a good effect. The first time I tried this, I tried it just on my arms, shoulders, neck and upper chest, as it wasn't quite warm enough to be showing my legs. I found that it was very easy to apply, you just spray it and it requires no rubbing in, however it comes out clear so you can't really tell if you've missed patches. It feels a little like it is dripping down after you apply it but you have to resist the urge to touch it to stop it dripping. I liked the smell as I was ...

Garnier Ambre Solaire No Streaks Bronzer Dry Face Mist Fair To Light 11/05/2011

How to look like an oompa lumpa with Ambre solaire dry face mist

Garnier Ambre Solaire No Streaks Bronzer Dry Face Mist Fair To Light I'm very pale and don't tan very easily. I have tried fake tan products in the past but end up either orange, streaky or exactly the same colour as before I used the fake tan. I have also resorted to using wash off tans because they are often visible as you put them on so you can check if it's even. However, this year I didn't want one that will wash off. My plan was to research fake tan products properly, read reviews, and spend a little more than I have done in the past in the hope that it would be worth it. So after finding, examining, and reading reviews on many fake tan products I decided on Ambre solaire. I bought the dry face mist and also the dry body mist. This product cost me £7.72 from Superdrug for a 75ml bottle, however I later realised that it is available from Boots for £5.78. It is available for light/medium skin or medium/dark skin. I went for light/medium because I only wanted a light tan as i'm very pale naturally with light blonde hair and blue eyes. A dark tan would look too unnatural. When I used it, it had been sunny over the weekend, so I assumed that everybody except for me would have a natural tan. So in time for Monday I used both the face and the body fake tan. I won't speak about the body fake tan in this review, i'll just say that I wasn't happy with it. The face tan, I found was very easy to apply. You simply shake the can and spray over your face. There is no need to rub it in so you don't have to touch your face at all. It feels slightly ...

Simple Simply Pure Gentle Eye Make-up Remover 09/05/2011

Simply cheap but effective eye make- up remover

Simple Simply Pure Gentle Eye Make-up Remover I have tried several different eye make up removers over the last few years, and found with a lot of them that they made my eyes sting and caused a lot of discomfort. I started to use one from boots as it was the only one i'd found that didn't hurt my eyes, however it was very expensive. When it got to a point where I couldn't afford that one any more, i tried this one. It was cheap to buy, only £2.59 for a 150ml bottle and it was advertised as being mild and gentle so i thought I may as well try it. I bought this from the store but you can also buy it online at www.superdrug.com. The eye make up remover came in a simple bottle with a screw top. You just need to take off the lid, turn it upside down over some cotton wool and squeeze a little. I found that it didn't come out too fast or too slow, and was very easy to use. The top screws back on and doesn't come loose. I wear quite a lot of eyeliner and mascara so i need a good eye make up remover to effectively remove all of it. This eye make up remover removed all of my make up easily. It also didn't cause and irritation or discomfort. Furthermore, it left my skin moisturised but not greasy. I have been using this eye make up remover for ages now as it is one of the cheapest but one of the best. A bottle lasts a long time; a couple of months for me, using it daily, making it even better value for money. Overall, I would definitely recommend it as it's not worth paying more for a different one. I can't fault this ...

Sunshine Villas, Puerto Rico 02/05/2011

Sunshine Villas

Sunshine Villas, Puerto Rico A BIT ABOUT THE LOCATION Gran Canaria is an island in the Atlantic ocean, around 130 miles off the coast of Africa. It is the third largest of the Canary islands. A flight to Gran Canaria takes around four and a half hours for us from Manchester airport. Gran Canaria is split up into three main parts: Las palmas (the capital), Maspolomas and Puerto Rico. We always stay in Puerto Rico, but both Puerto Rico and Maspolomas offer a wide range of tourist activities and hotels, villas, apartments and apart- hotels to stay in. I first went to Gran Canaria when I was four years old with my family. We all loved it there so much that we've been back every year since, and more than once some years. We used to stay in apart- hotels when we went to Gran Canaria, but some of them aren't that nice. After a few years, we started to stay in an apartment instead which some of our friends in Gran Canaria owned. However, when my brother was born there wasn't space for all of us in an apartment so that's when we first stayed in Sunshine villas. We have stayed in the villas three times now and will be again this summer. THE VILLAS Sunshine Villas are located in Puerto Rico, about an hours drive from the airport, and if required, the owners of the villas can arrange for someone to take you to and from the airport. They are a group of five luxury villas. Each villa has a small kitchen containing a dishwasher, a microwave, a hob and a fridge/freezer. Each one also has a spacious living area ...

Vaseline Lip Therapy with Aloe Vera 29/04/2011

Aloe vera vaseline

Vaseline Lip Therapy with Aloe Vera A few years ago, I started to develop a slight addiction to lip balm. Since then, I always have a small tub of lib balm with me. A couple of weeks ago, my lip balm ran out before I had had chance to buy a new one, so I rushed to the bathroom to see if there was anything I could use instead. I found a tub of vaseline, which to be honest I hadn't used in years. I used this instead of lip balm for that day and was surprised how soft it left my lips! I must have used so many different lip balms but vaseline is better than almost all of them for making lips soft. So the next day I went out to buy a small tin of it instead of my usual lip balm. I went for the aloe vera one because it smells better than the original one and aloe vera is known for its healing qualities. The product comes in a 20g green and white metal tin. The price can vary slightly from place to place but from Boots it costs £1.29 and from Superdrug it costs £1.25. Compared to lip balms i've used of similar sizes, this is great value for money. It is easy to use, the lid pulls easily off the tin and easily goes back on. The lid also never comes off accidentally which is definitely a plus. The tin is filled with smooth yellow petrolum jelly which is easy to apply with your finger. The aloe vera gives it a nice but subtle scent. Once you apply the vaseline to lips or skin, it lasts a long time so you don't need to re apply for a while. It gives your lips a slight gloss but this is very subtle. I have been using ...

Toni & Guy Straight and Protect Conditioner 29/04/2011

A good conditioner for preventing split ends

Toni & Guy Straight and Protect Conditioner I got this conditioner as part of a gift set for Christmas last year. When I received the same gift set this year, I decided I should review the products inside it. I straighten my hair several times a week so even though I use heat protection spray I get quite bad split ends. I hoped this condiioner, along with the shampoo it came with, would help, but to be honest I was sceptical. I had no split ends when I started using this and was hoping it would stop me from getting any. I remember my first bottle of this had a sort of pump which you had to twist and then push down to get conditioner out, and I remember finding it quite difficult to use at first. However, they have changed the design of the bottle so it is now much easier to get conditioner out of the bottle. The directions on the back of the bottle show that it is used exactly the same as any other conditioner. It is a think consistency so you only need a little bit. The conditioner has a nice scent, it's sweet and smells very similar to other Toni and Guy hair products, however I noticed the smell doesn't really linger after you have washed your hair which is a shame. The bottle promises that the conditioner will maximise straightening effect and protect from heat damage. I didn't really notice much change in the condition of my hair over the first few washes, and I can't say I noticed my hair was any straighter. However, I continued to use the conditioner and I noticed that over time I wasn't ...

Taylor Swift (A biography) - Sarah Parvis 29/04/2011

Good things come in small packages!

Taylor Swift (A biography) - Sarah Parvis I absolutely love Taylor Swift so a short while ago I decided to buy her biography. I think there are a couple of Taylor Swift biographies out but this one looked decent so this is the one I went for. It only cost me £3.49 from Amazon and the RRP is only £3.99. The first thing I noticed when it arrived was incredibly small it is! To be honest, I was expecting it to be about A5 size, but it was about half that. However, I looked on the Amazon website and realised it does actually say that the dimensions are 9.6 x 8.2 x 1.2 cm. I have also noticed that since my purchase, the biography is now listed as 'Taylor Swift (Mini bio)', which it wasn't before. The biography is a hard back book and it has a nice photo of Taylor on the front with pink, purple and white writing which simply says 'Taylor Swift Biography'. The book is 80 pages of full colour and I think the print quality is very good. A couple of pages in you'll find a contents page, listing the five sections of the book. These are: Meet Taylor Swift The song that changed her life Taylor's first true love: Songwriting The stories behind the songs Taylor on relationships The first section is all about Taylor's background and growing up and becoming a singer. I found it interesting, and I think anyone who's a fan will really. The second section is about Taylor's debut single 'Tim Mcgraw'. It tells you about the meaning behind the song and about how it was her first hit. The third section is all ...
