Lush Fizzbanger Bath Ballistic 17/05/2015

A Lime-ly Treat, But Do I Get Enough Bang for My Buck?

Lush Fizzbanger Bath Ballistic What Is It A bath ballistic from Lush is essentially what could either be a bath soak in liquid form, such as the regular-looking bath products in drugstores. This concept is a more environmentally-friendly product in solid form, this eliminating excess packaging. If you buy this online, like I did, it actually does just come "naked" in the box with some environmentally friendly foam for padding. If you buy this instore, you get a biodegradable paper pocket and bag to keep it clean and dry. Where & How Much £££s You can either buy this for £3.35 in one of the Lush stores, or online. The delivery starts from £3.95. Lush Say: "A Catherine wheel of a bath bomb. It changes colour as it fizzes, crackling with popping candy as it goes and releasing first a citrussy apple and then a cinnamon, apple pie like scent with a hint of ylang ylang. Petitgrain is used in aromatherapy to calm the breathing, slow the heartbeat and reduce feelings of anxiety. Ylang ylang produces a feeling of joy, and cinnamon leaf oil helps you let go." Appearance This is a bright yellow bath ballistic, on the larger side when comparing it to their other bath ballistic products. It looks very cheerful, unisex and How Do I Use It You are meant to drop it in a running bath and enjoy the scent and visual effects! I do believe if you wanted, you could easily cut it in half and use it for 2 baths, or even 4 if you don't mind getting the "full effect" of it. However, as I haven't tried it myself I ...

Zoella Soak Opera Shower Cream 16/10/2014

Behind the Headlines...

Zoella Soak Opera Shower Cream About Zoella Hello all, have you met Zoe Sugg aka Zoella yet? What's that got to do with this product you might say! This is a 24-year-old girl who's a blogger, v-logger (video blogger) and most recently, a Mind charity ambassador. She blogs and vlogs about all things beauty, fashion and lifestyle and has recently become involved with Mind due to her own experience of anxiety and panic attacks. "Zoella Beauty" Her own beauty line called Zoella Beauty has recently come out in Superdrug (in some stores and online) and I will be reviewing one of the products, named "Soak Opera". Prices range from £5 - £8 and this product will set you back by £5 for 490ml. You can find the entire collection on the Superdrug website, I got mine online - they do free delivery if you spend over a tenner online. The Packaging The packaging is extremely girlie, with a light pink label and a pink plastic lid. The product itself is pink with printed lace cuttings and I would therefore assume is aimed at mainly women, especially pre-teen & teen girls. As Zoe loves all things make-up, I'd say this is a fitting design that attracts beauty subscribers in particular. What Is this Soak Opera Stuff?! As you might have guessed, this is just a quirky (typical Zoella!) take on "soap opera", a little dramatic quirk to market the product. Basically, this is a bath soak and shower cream! Superdrug say: "Zoella Beauty - A delicately fragranced 'beauty in a bottle' bath soak to calm the senses with soothing ...

The Body Shop Vanilla Bliss Body Butter 27/09/2014

A Bliss Kiss?

The Body Shop Vanilla Bliss Body Butter Why Did I Buy This & Pricing I've been wanting to try the famous Body Shop Body Butters for ages, as they usually get such great reviews, however I must admit that I do find them rather overpriced for my budget and couldn't justify spending the £13 for 200ml, not matter what the reviews said! Luckily for me, there was quite a sale going on in the shop and I thought that 3 body butters for £16 instead of £42 in a pretty box was a good enough reason to try these out! I think this one might be a limited edition but can still be found on Amazon (£12.99 free UK P&P) and Ebay. You are meant to rub this in whenever, always best after a bath or a shower for maximum effect as everyone knows! Scent This is a vanilla-scented body butter, which differs greatly from the scent you get with the original vanilla body lotion. This is less sweet, more of a heavy smell, much milder, I'd maybe compare it to a vanilla dough scent, a bit nutty, and a bit festive and Christmassy I'd say, reminds me of vanilla cookies! Not sure I want to smell of vanilla cookies but whatever floats your boat I guess! To be honest, I didn't enjoy the scent much, but it's quite subtle anyway. Texture This is a very very thick cream-coloured body butter which takes quite a bit of rubbing in but which sinks in quite quickly. I've found myself using up quite a bit due to the fact that it sinks in so well so cannot say I feel this is a good value for money in that respect. The Packaging This is a creamy-coloured ...

Nivea In-Shower Body Conditioner for Dry Skin 20/11/2013

A convenient time-saver!

Nivea In-Shower Body Conditioner for Dry Skin Why did I buy it I suffer with dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin which gets uncomfortable and irritated and needs to be moisturised after a shower. The adverts caught my eye and I decided to try it, especially as it sounded such a simple concept, eliminating the need to spend time moisturising after a shower. Where from & how much I bought my Nivea body moisturiser from my local Superdrug, as they had a deal of a third off. It currently costs £5.09 for 400ml and £3.55 for 250ml. Available from most supermarkets and drugstores. It's available in two types- one for normal skin and one for dry skin. I am reviewing the product for dry skin. Design and bottle This is the typical dark blue hue typical to the Nivea brand, with white labelling and with a flip-top opening at the bottom, meaning you don't have to keep flipping the bottle to use it, just like most hair conditioners. I don't think the design makes it particularly stand out. The product itself is the consistency of a thick white moisturiser, with the typical clean Nivea smell (the classic one, not the "soft cream" lighter version) which I find nice, clean and pleasant to use and very neutral, it definitely wouldn't clash with perfumes. How to use This is meant to be used in the shower after a shower gel has been rinsed off, and just like a hair conditioner, it is to be put on onto the body, and rinsed off. I did find it easy and effective to use, you feel the moisturising straight away and it gave my dry skin ...

Lush Amandopondo Bubble Bar 09/08/2012

Simplicity with an edge

Lush Amandopondo Bubble Bar The design and scent of Amandopondo make this bubble bar that rare vintage edge. I can't think of anything that smells like this unique blend of zingy rosiness. Like a fresh rose but fresher, edgier and hippier. It's simplicity with a twist. Lush say: "A beautiful rose and lemon bath, for when life is being a bitch. Remember those old Hollywood films where the starlet would be in a bath with a mountain of foam covering her modesty – leaving her to seductively raise one foam covered leg for soaping? Well our Bubble Bars were designed to give exactly that amount of foam if you use the whole thing. But of course you may choose to have slightly less foam in your bath, if there are no cameras around." This little bar is off-white colour with sparkles and is adorned by a tiny purple rose in the middle. It looks like a cute vanilla cupcake-looks good enough to eat. The price tag is £2.75 which is one of the lower-priced bubble bars. I run a bath and crumble one third of the bar in. I have cut the bar into three with a soft knife to get the most of my money and decided that if the bubbles are not enough, I will add another third. However, one third did seem to suffice and I got lots of bubbles which made the bath look inviting. The colour of the bathwater went cloudy I think, not too sure because of all the bubbles on top (which is a good thing!). I have dry/sensitive/eczematic skin and I didn't find that this irritated it as some other bars, however my already-aggravated ...

Lush Happy Bubble Bar Slice 08/08/2012

Not Too Happy With Happy

Lush Happy Bubble Bar Slice This is an interesting one. It's been moved from the Retro range into the regular range at Lush: Lush says: "f you’re happy and you know it, use this bubble bar! Some fragrances are almost guaranteed to put a smile on your face, and the scent of Happy bubble is definitely one of them. With uplifting neroli, tangerine and orange blossom, Happy is a great bubble bar to use first thing in the morning as a gentle wake-up. However, unlike some of our more zingy citrus products, Happy also works well at bedtime as there’s relaxing sandalwood oil in there too, which clears the mind and helps you forget your troubles." £3.25 for 100 grams, in store or online (delivery charges apply). Lush are an ethical company priding themselves on being against animal testing and supporting worldwide and local campaigns to protect the environment and its animals and humanity. I can see the inspiration behind this bubble bar-a zingy, happy smell that leaves you energised and on a high, ready to face anything that comes your way that day! I smelled the bar in the shop and thought it smelt really different-refreshing, hip and cool and original. As this is a bubble bar, Lush recommends crumbling a third of a bar into a running bath and letting the bar take over, so that's exactly what I did and got lots of bubbles. The water was green. A blue-green slab of happiness (or hippiness) with the word "Happy" etched into it and gold dust sparkles on the wording, it definitely stands out from the crowd ...

Lush Happy Blooming Bath Melt 06/08/2012

Cherry Bloomin'

Lush Happy Blooming Bath Melt As much as I love Lush, I must admit it isn't very purse-friendly. My favourites are definitely their bubble bars and so I decided to try a bath melt for once and since Happy Blooming is already pre-cut to easily break into three parts, the fact that I would get three baths out of this sounded reasonable. I like the funky half-moon cherry red design and three individual parts with a cherry on each bit. Lush say: "You’ll be bloomin’ happy when you spring from this cheery cherry bathCocoa butter and passionflower seed oil will soften and nourish the skin. We’ve also packed this with calamine powder to give a cool, smooth feel when you step out of the bath. We’ve packed as much fruit into this little bar as we could – with dried cherries, freshly-squeezed passion fruits and a lovely cherry fragrance." The melt costs £3.95 for 65 grams and can be purchased in their shop or online (delivery charges apply). This is much cheaper than the other melts due to the fact it can be used thrice. This thrown into my bath made the bathwater turn a dark pinkish/reddish hue which was a nice touch. The scent itself wasn't very strong, a faint scent of cherries with a touch of cream in there-more like a cherry ice-cream as opposed to the fresh sensory kick of fresh fruit. To me, this was slightly disappointing as I was looking forward to my bath being lovely and refreshing in the morning. It was okay to relax in for a while but nothing luxurious as far as I'm concerned-very average. This is ...

The Body Shop Peppermint Intensive Foot Rescue 06/08/2012

Foot SOS

The Body Shop Peppermint Intensive Foot Rescue I suffer from really dry and cracked skin on my feet which I really hate so I'm always on the lookout for not just any but fairly intensive cream to combat this. I always find that body lotions and creams just don't do the job on my heels and I find it slightly awkward to put body butter on my feet as they take time to sink in and even if I did this overnight, I'd always have a bath or shower in the morning so I'd end up needing to apply cream again. I was shopping online at The Body Shop since a product I was after was out of stock in their stores. To make my money stretch further, I like to use the opportunity to get extra products and save on delivery costs (free over £40 at the time, now only over £25 or £2.99 for Standard or £4.99 for Express Delivery)!. I therefore decided to try this out, especially as they had a sale on that time and I also had my Love Your Body card. The usual RRP of this is is £9 for 100ml so I was really pleased to have got this for £6.03 saving on a third. The tub is just eye-catching enough, with a pale pink plastic tub, with a dark blue sticker label with a paler blue footprint and The Body Shop claims: "For feet in need of TLC. This overnight moisture-booster works on hard skin and dry heels. Softens hard skin Rehydrates dry heels Helps to combat odour" It contains smoothing community trade cocoa butter, peppermint oil and grape acids to smoothen and soften. I personally am a bit fussy when it comes to scents and I must say this has been a ...

Lush Pop in the Bath Bubble Bar 05/08/2012

I dare you to resist this!

Lush Pop in the Bath Bubble Bar I have been skirting around this particular bubble bar forever-I'm not sure why as it's the epitome of cute with different design versions, bright cheerful colours and decorated with a cutesy flower cut-out! A simple look at this bubble bar makes me smile! Price £2.90 for a Pop in the Bath in the Lush stores or online (bearing in mind the cheapest delivery option is £3.95). This is one of the lower priced bubble bars. What is a bubble bar? This is a solid version of bath foam. It's also a naked product, meaning it comes without packaging recyclable (paper pockets are supplied in the shop to protect the product). Therefore, it is environmentally-friendly. Lush Lush is a store selling homemade, ethical and environmentally-friendlier goodies. It's vegan and strongly opposes animal testing, as well as supporting lots of environmental and other campaigns. Design This gorgeous bar comes in blue, pink, green and white with a different coloured flower on top. I personally feel this appeals to both adults and kids alike, not sure about men though ;) How to use Well, the name gives the game away doesn't it? Run a bath and put it in...I'm not sure how many baths you are meant to get from it, however I tried two and there was more than enough bubbles to go round with a big chunk still remaining solid in the bath, therefore I's day you could probably get as much as 4 baths out of this surprising little bar! Scent I can't put this into words, this is such a beautiful scent-a ...

Garnier Body Intensive 7Days Nourishing Lotion 01/06/2012

One for the...guys?

Garnier Body Intensive 7Days Nourishing Lotion Price and availability: I picked up this body lotion for £2 for 250ml in Morissons I believe. It is widely available in drugstores and some supermarkets around the country. Design: The eye-catching design consists of a medium-green colour bottle with an easy to grip shape in the middle and a flip-top. However, the grip feature isn't very pronounced and I found the bottle itself quite slippery. Claims: It explains that rough and ddry skin would benefit from the lotion, claims it is fast-absorbing and that skin feels hydrated for 7 days. It is enriched with cocoa butter which is meant to soften the skin. It further claims that it is suitable for senstive skin, is colour free and dermatologically tested. Also contains L-Bifidus, which claims to lock in moisture to keep skin hydrated for a long time. Why I bought this: So far so good I thought! I have sensitive and dry skin with some rougher patches. To be honest, I was looking to combine saving some money with trying a new product (which I love doing, don't we all), so I opted for this instead of the pricier Palmer's cocoa butter. Using it: open the flip-top and squeeze some out. I found the texture to be quite thick and it is white in colour, as it is colour-free. I have found the fast-absorbing claim to be true, it sinks into the skin well and doesn't leave it oily. The smell: This is one of the disadvantages for me. I'm sorry Garnier, but this smells reminds me of a male aftershave! It is a very spicy scent, more like ...

LUSH Godiva Shampoo 23/05/2012

Sexy scent, not-so-sexy hair!

LUSH Godiva Shampoo This is a 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner bar from Lush, an environmentally-friendly company selling all sorts of nature-inspired products. With its beautiful bright yellow design and chunks of white cocoa butter, the name was inspired by the legend of a lady called Godiva who rode a horse naked through the streets, covered by nothing bar from her hair. Thus, the concept reflects the legend due to it being a naked product, that is, unpackaged (although they put it it in a recyclable paper bag for you take away in), which is great as it saves the environment. Lush says: Solid shampoo bar with added conditioner for a richer lather. Godiva uses our patented solid shampoo base with a sexy jasmine fragrance and a host of ingredients to give a more conditioning wash. Cocoa Butter, shea butter, camellia oil, jojoba oil, macadamia nut oil, extra virgin coconut oil and cupuaçu butter will feed the hair and moisturise the scalp. Great on dry or long hair that needs a creamier wash. The heady fragrance lasts on the hair all day and, if you are lucky enough to have long hair, you'll find it perfect for swishing about to create your very own cloud of allure. This shampoo bar shares the same sensual jasmine fragrance as our Flying Fox shower gel. We've taken the packaging and preservatives away from this shampoo, which is great for the environment and for you. We named this great naked product after a certain naked lady who rode through town on a horse. The small size of this 55 gram bar ...

The Body Shop Earth Lovers Watermelon & Eucalpytus Shower Gel 26/04/2012

Refreshing

The Body Shop Earth Lovers Watermelon & Eucalpytus Shower Gel Price and Availability This cost me £5 for 250ml from The Body Shop. Can be purchased from their store or online. What they say online This 100% biodegradable shower gel is sulphate, paraben and colourant-free. Contains real watermelon and eucalyptus extracts. 100% biodegradable Soap-free No sulphates, parabens or colourants Watermelon and eucalyptus scent My experience Due to having very sensitive skin, prone to irritation and dryness, I have to be very careful and unfortunately can't simply always buy whatever is on offer, which is a real pain, as I love a bargain just like anyone else. I pondered whether I should buy this, as the price tag is a little steep for a student's budget. However, deciding it seemed mild enough for my temperamental skin, as well as falling for the enticing watermelon scent, I gave in. I'm so glad I didn't let the price put me off! I find I only need to use a little and it lathers up brilliantly onto my loofah and produces lots of lather. The consistency is quite thin, so just be careful not to waste too much, just tip it quickly. The scent reminds me of summer, as it smells stringly of fresh watermelon and I find that the shower gel really helps to wake me up in the morning-in fact, I don't use it at night as it wakes up my senses, rather than winding me down for the night. As far as my skin is concerned, this has proven to be one of the best shower gels I've used-I usually end up with slightly dry to dry skin (depending on shower gel) ...

Lush Angels on Bare Skin 26/04/2012

A blessing from above?

Lush Angels on Bare Skin Having dry and sensitive skin, prone to redness and an uneven skintone, I find a lot of cleansers simply dry my skin out...finding that my skin is better off without using a cleanser has been eye-opening for me and made me decide not to use any cleanser in future. However, it did not feel right somehow, to moisturise without cleansing (I have to moisturise as even tap water dries my skin out). I also started breaking out more than I've ever done so I decided to make a compromise and try something "natural". Therefore I went into Lush and enquired, since I was unsure if to get Angels on Bare Skin, Fresh Farmacy, Ultrabland or Aqua Marina after looking on their website. All four seemed to have good reviews so I decided to just go ahead and ask. The Lush assistant was very understanding and I ended up with a sample of all four cleansers! I was very pleased, to say the least. I will not comment on the other three since I will review them later on. This was by far the best cleanser for my skin. It comes in a little black pot with a screw-on lid and white labelling and sets you back £5.95 for 100g (this is the only size). You can buy it in-store or online. Let me start by saying, this does not look, feel or smell attractive to me at all. A bit like a pot of mud! However, I was eager to find something that worked so I perserved. I am soo glad I had! It smells like herbs and lavender. The consistency is that of a paste. It contains: Ground Almonds, Glycerine, Kaolin, Water, ...

Frijj Honeycomb Chocolate Swirl Milkshake 25/04/2012

Honey, did you swirl in some choc too?

Frijj Honeycomb Chocolate Swirl Milkshake I find it very strange to be writing a review on a milkshake, since I'm not really a milk fan, uh, at all, just dislike the taste in general. For this reason, I usually steer clear of milkshakes, especially the ones in which I taste the classic milk taste. As I came to university, however, everyone seemed to be going crazy for these Frijj milkshakes, so I decided to try them and see what the big fuss is about for myself. The milkshake I'm reviewing is part of their "The Incredibles" range, which I find is clever marketing to make the bottle stand out for the kids. The whole design of the bottle is extremely funky and colourful and just has a very good feeling about it, in my opinion. It is the sort of thing that would catch my eye if I was having a bad day and wanted a little treat when browsing in the supermarket. The bottle itself has a very thoughtful narrowed middle, to allow a good grip on it. A black screw-on top completes the design. The bottle is recyclable except the cover-which has a perforation to make it easy to remove this layer of packaging. It is recommended that you shake it before use. I find this, Honeycomb Choc Swirl, such a treat for the taste buds. It is very thick and creamy in consistency, does not taste of milk one bit and the flavour is a mix of honey and chcocolate, although I'd say I taste the honey more. The taste is far from bland with subtle tones to it as you enjoy it. It is very sweet and creamy and satisfies my sweet tooth. The one thing I ...

Lush Full of Grace Serum Bar 22/04/2012

Full of...

Lush Full of Grace Serum Bar What Is It? This is a solid facial lotion meant to hydrate skin. The butters, calamine and fresh portobello mushrooms nourish and cool the skin, while controling grease. Ingredients This is a 100% natural product with: Murumuru Butter, Calamine Powder, Cupuacu Butter, Fresh Rose Petal Infusion, Organic Almond Oil, Perfume, Fresh Portobello Mushrooms, Chamomile Blue Oil, Rose Oil, Tagetes Oil, *Eugenol, *Geraniol, *Benzyl Benzoate, *Benzyl Cinnamate, *Citronellol, *Limonene, *Linalool, *Farnesol Price £7.95 for 20 grams. Packaging Absolutely none, a naked product, though packaged in a paper so it doesn't melt in your bag! No preservatives either! How To Use Either rub it straight onto the skin or onto fingers and massage in. Smell It has quite a strong "mushroom" scent which is strange but easy to get used to I believe-smells very earthy and organic, if you know what I mean. My Experience I was extremely dissapointed with this bar. First of all, be aware that it looks much bigger on the website than in reality. I was a little surprised in the shop myself. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a try. I say nonetheless, as I believe paying £7.95 for grams is kind of extortionate which is part of the reason it compelled me to try it-it must be brilliant then? How wrong was I? First of all, I understand it is for dry skin, however, it literally feels like I have put baby oil on my face with a cotton pad. My face is shiny and it takes forever to sink in-if at all! ...
