FIFA 12 Ultimate Edition (Xbox 360) 18/04/2012

Does this game show the beautiful game, or an ugly one?

FIFA 12 Ultimate Edition (Xbox 360) For each and every Christmas since I can remember I have received the latest Fifa game from my granny. This almost tradition has gone on for the last 8 years, from the Fifa 04 edition, and will continue for years to come. Despite the lateness of the game, as it comes out in early September sometimes, 3 months before Christmas, I am always pleased with the present due to the high cost of the game. But, Is it worth it? Does this game show the beautiful game, or does it show an ugly one?Gameplay and Playability Fifa 12 is described as the best football experience you can get in the safety of your own home, but does it live up to this high description. In my opinion, it definitely does. The whole gaming experience is exquisite, everything comes together to create a wonderful game, well deserved of the hype it receives. For now I will focus on the gameplay, or playability, and the other aspects will be covered later on. The gameplay is very good from the very start, with you being able to control a player against a goalkeeper, with the aim of scoring goals. This gives you early practice on skills and shooting ability, which gets you used to the controls, for those who are new to the game, are a little rusty or even people that just need to get in the "zone". Once you have pressed the start button and have reached the main menu the game experience has already begun, with the opening sequence, and you are fully into the game. Within the main menu, there are many different options, ...

HP Mini 210-1012EA 21/01/2012

The HP, is it a MINImum or maximum?

HP Mini 210-1012EA I had made a decision that I needed a netbook to use for school and at home when my computer was in use. This means that it had to be compact and easily manoeuvrable with a long lasting battery life or a compact charger for when I can plug it in. After hours of browsing both shops and the internet for both a good netbook and a good deal, this HP Mini 210 stood out to me. It was small, but not too small and had some other key features that I will go through in this review. Look and FeelThe HP mini looks and feels pretty good. My one came in red, luckily my favourite colour. The netbook has very clean and smooth edges and seems to be very well made. The back, or lid, is very clean and crisp and the red colouring isn't too bright or harsh, instead it is more metallic, which adds a certain element of subtlety to it, which I very much like. The only thing on the back, or lid, is the HP logo made of what seems to be silver coloured metal. I like this logo as it isn't too obvious, due to it being in the bottom left-hand corner. The keyboard isn't the same size as a full sized keyboard, but the keys are easily usable and aren't too small to use. They feel good and are reasonably easy to push down, which may be an odd thing to bring up but I have found it difficult to push down some keys on keyboards in the past. The netbook itself is quite light, which helps with the portability of it. It is easy to carry and it's size means that it can easily fit into most bags or rucksacks. ...

Samsung GALAXY S II 19/01/2012

Samsung, in its own galaxy s2?

Samsung GALAXY S II I finally managed to get a contract phone 3 months ago and this was my phone choice. After much deliberation, about a years worth, this phone came out and it ticked all the right boxes. The phone looked good, it was fast, it had the latest android software, in-built memory and tons more. So I decided that I would take a voyage into the wonders of the galaxy and this is what I found. The first impressionWhen I first took the phone out of its box the first impression was good. The box itself was very basic, just a black box with some words written on it, but this just added to my excitement, as it must be a phone that speaks for itself, rather than screaming and shouting to cover the fact that it isn't actually that good. The box was straight forward to open, just undo the sticker and lift the lid up. And there it was. The phone was just laying there, protected by a screen cover and lying in a moulded plastic 'shelf'. I lifted it out of its case and it felt better than I had expected. It was extremely light-weight for its size, but wasn't flimsy, it was considerably hard and quite strong. The most surprising thing I found was how natural it felt. It felt like it was meant to be held in your hand and I felt like I was supposed to use it. So, to sum up the first impression into one word it would have to be, natural. The ease of useAs soon as I turned the phone on it seemed easy to use and understand. Everything was straight forward with nothing to confuse you in anyway. Everything ...

Barr Irn Bru 01/09/2011

Will you B-rue the day you tried Irn-Bru?

Barr Irn Bru I can't remember the first time I tried Irn-Bru, but it must be the best drink to ever of quenched my thirst. Due to my ginger hair, many a joke has been linked to my love of the orange liquid (most jokes being made by myself). Some of these witty remarks (all of which left my own mouth) are; LOOK, the Irn-Bru has gone to my head and where am I, where am I, oh, I'm in the Irn-Bru Isle. But, besides the obvious similarities between me and the soft drink, Irn-Bru does have some other positives. These positives will be highlighted and explained during this review and at the end I will be answering the question; Will you B-rue the day you tried Irn-Bru? Packaging Design The simple yet effective packing design works very well as it has all of the ingredients that packaging should have. It tells you the name, obviously Irn-Bru, the ingredients, at least as much as they have to, the nutritional information, which can be surprising (more later) and the famous (in Scotland) Irn-Bru logo. For me, the packing is very effective as it is very simple and the contrast created by the two main colours, blue and orange. For those of you who know a bit about the art world (or just the colour wheel) will know that orange and blue are complimentary colours (opposite each other on the colour wheel), which means they go well together, obviously. The white and silver aspects of the packaging just act as secondary elements, as if they are in the foreground with the orange and blue being the ...

Resistance - Muse 19/08/2011

Should you put up a resistance?

Resistance - Muse I remember the day well. It was Christmas day of 2009, and unless you hadn't met me or where just stupid, you would know that I was (and am) a massive Muse fan. And from one of the presents that I received, Santa mustn't be either of these. If you haven't realized yet, the present that I received was this album, the resistance by Muse. This may surprise you, but this was the first Muse album that I actually owned (I have since bought the rest of the albums that they have made. Ever since I received this present I have listened to the album, especially the songs; Resistance and Guiding Light (as these are my favourite songs, obviously). The album is different from the rest of the albums that they have made, but does this mean that you should put up a resistance? Muse Background Muse are a British band that were formed back in 1994, when three school friends got together and formed a band. These school friends were; Matthew Bellamy (lead singer and guitar), Christopher Wolstenholme (bass guitar and backing singer) and Dominic Howard (drums and percussion). These three met at Teignmouth Community College, in Devon. The name of the band was inspired by Matthew Bellamy's art teacher, who said that the band should be called "muses" (obviously they dropped the last S). Muse's First album was called Showbiz, made back in 1999, which perfectly showcased their music style, which was a weird combination of various music genres, like alternative rock and classical music. The lyrics ...

Waitrose Heston Ice Cream 05/08/2011

Is this ice cream "Topcorn" or "Flopcorn"?

Waitrose Heston Ice Cream I was just sitting in the kitchen when my sister ran in. 'Look Sam, Look!' she screamed at me, 'Look at what mum has bought for us'. She handed me a pot of ice cream. This wasn't any old ice cream. This was a weird ice cream. Salted caramel popcorn ice cream. My first response to this new thing was one of surprise. The next response was one of inquisition, what does salted caramel taste like? Let me tell you. This product seems odd, just like something Heston Blumenthal would make, but it works, brilliantly. The reasons for it working so well will be explained below, when I answer he question; Is this ice cream "Topcorn" or "Flopcorn"? Taste Although the combination of salt and caramel sounds weird, I can assure you that it tastes wonderful. The ice cream consists of salted caramel pieces and plain popcorn pieces in a sweetish ice cream. For those of you who thought the salt would be too much, I can say that the sweetness of the caramel and the ice cream cancel this out. But this doesn't mean that you can't taste the salt, because if this was true it would be pointless having it there. The best way to explain the taste is to split the different tastes up. Even though the salt and the caramel are together the taste splits up and combines with the plain popcorn pieces to form both salted popcorn and caramel popcorn. This may not sound nice for those of you that don't like either salted popcorn or caramel popcorn, but for those people they can have normal, boring ice cream. ...

Black Holes and Revelations - Muse 04/08/2011

Is it a Black Hole or a Revelation?

Black Holes and Revelations - Muse I have fond memories of this band, Muse, when I was younger. I would remember hearing them on the radio, normally BBC Radio 1, and my mum turning the sound up, so we could "enjoy it more" (at least that is what she said). But then there was a long wait for me to rediscover this band, a wait of about 9 years. This was far too long for me, at least I think that now (hindsight is a wonderful thing). I got back into Muse when I was 15 years old and had some money to spend on iTunes (I had just got my iPod Classic, reviewed earlier). I had heard the end of a song on the radio, again BBC Radio 1, and had heard the band, obviously it was Muse. I typed it in to iTunes and bought two songs just to see whether I liked it (at this point I had no idea it was the same band that I had listened to as a child). The two songs where off this album, Black Holes and Revelations, and were Invincible and Knights of Cydonia. I listened to them, immediately fell in love and downloaded the rest if this album. But, the funny thing was that I still didn't know that this was the very same band I had listened to as a child, as the songs I listened to were from a different album. I eventually found out that they were the same band, when I bought the CD version of this and all the other albums Muse have brought out (more about this when I review that album). Anyway, lets focus on this album. I want to ask the question; Is it a Black hole or a Revelation? Muse Background Muse are a British band that were ...

A-Z for Members Challenges 28/07/2011

A simple A-Z of me.

A-Z for Members Challenges A- for me this is the easiest letter. A is for Architect. When I was about 4 years old, when I used to draw frankly rubbish pictures of buildings, I asked my Dad whether there was a job that I could do where I would be able to draw pictures of buildings. His reply was simple and quick. He said that there was and I would be called an Architect. With which I replied with; 'what a stupid name, he should be called a builditect'. Since that day I have aspired to be an Architect, and still do, as well as being inspired by architecture in everything that I have done, from art to my extended project (most useless thing I have ever done). So that is my letter A- Architect. B- this is a difficult letter. B is for Bolognese sauce. Again, since I was young, about 5 or 6 years old, my favourite food has been anything with Bolognese sauce. Pizza, spaghetti, pasta, toast or anything else you can put Bolognese sauce in or on. The Bolognese pizza was the only thing I would eat in restaurants when we went to Cyprus, at the age that I said above. This may be a very unconventional thing for a young boy to really like, but I did. For me there is still nothing better than a good Spaghetti Bolognese, especially the way that I make it. It takes good quality beef mince (none of that cheap, nasty stuff), some onion, some tomato puree, tinned tomatoes, garlic, a dollop of marmite, tomato sauce and a sprinkling of cinnamon powder (that's right cinnamon powder, don't knock it until you have tried it.). ...

FIFA 09 (Xbox 360) 26/07/2011

Is FIFA 09 on cloud 9 or do you have to call 999?

FIFA 09 (Xbox 360) It was the day after my birthday. (when I got my Xbox 360) I was walking down the dull and dreary Newmarket high street. Suddenly. One thing attracted my eyes. Blockbuster stood there like a diamond in the rough. I entered the shop and my eyes were further attracted by something. It was a shelf. A shelf that had a pre-owned sign over it. I went to have a look. My eye was again instantly attracted to two games. One was Grand Theft Auto IV. I bet you can never guess what the other was. Of course, it was FIFA 09. As they were both part of the same offer I snapped them up that very second. (They cost me a combined total of £40- quarter of the price than if I had bought them in "Costcutter"). I ran out the shop and the whole way home (which was no mean feat as I live 6 miles away in Moulton) so that I could play them. So, is FIFA 09 on cloud 9 or do you have to call 999? Gameplay and Playability I have been a fan of FIFA ever since I got the 2003 version on my old PS2 (which I still have). I have got every single one since then on many different platforms (PS2, PSP and Xbox 360), but FIFA 09 is the first and last one that I got on the Xbox 360. This useless piece of trivia means that I am quite qualified to suggest any patterns in the development of the FIFA series, and the gameplay is one of these, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong. There have been many improvements to the playability and gameplay of FIFA over the years; with how you play in matches, what modes you can choose ...

Apple iPod classic MB150ZO/A 160 GB 6th Generation 22/07/2011

Is this Apple from the tree of knowledge or is it a rotten apple?

Apple iPod classic MB150ZO/A 160 GB 6th Generation I remember the day well. It was the Christmas of 2008. I looked under the small plastic tree. I saw one smallish present (in comparison to the rest of them), which had my name on it. I knew exactly what it was. The knew iPod Classic 160GB. I couldn't what until after Christmas dinner, so I could open my present and get my music onto it. I could't wait to see how good it was, but was I right? Is this Apple from the tree of knowledge or is it a rotten apple? Sound Quality This iPod's main purpose was to play both music and videos, at least that's what I think. Thus, the sound quality must be at least good if not better. And I can safely say, as I have listened to and watched thousands of songs and videos, that the sound quality is amazing. I would go as far as to say that it is as good as industrial speakers, or even live music or films. The 3.5mm jack means that you can use any headphones or speakers that have this output, which is most of them. One problem that I can think of about my iPod Classic is that there is no speakers built into it, so you can't just play music, you need headphones or speakers. But, this isn't really an issue for me, so, in my opinion, there is no problem about the sound quality. Ease of Use I have to be honest. The iPod Classic is easy to use, unless you are me on Christmas day of 2008. Here is what happened. I opened the box. Took the mp3 player out. Turned it out and put it on charge. At least I thought I did. I went back about 2 hours later and ...

Samsung S5620 21/07/2011

Is it the full monte?

Samsung S5620 There I was. In phones4u looking for my next phone. And there it was. The Samsung Monte jumped out at me like an over excited jack in the box. The price, the look and the touchscreen. These are all used as the carrot to draw you in, but do they just polish the metaphorical turd? Is this phone the full Monte? Look and Feel The look and feel of the phone are quite good, at first. The light weight phone (weighing just 92g) is perfect for holding in your hand for a long time, when you are being interviewed for a job over the phone or talking to your long distance partner. The curved back also fits well in your hand, making it easy to text, call or watch videos without getting severe cramp in your tendons (in your hand). All in all the look and feel of this phone is it's best aspect, but the look and feel of all new, smart, phones are good, so this doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things. Durability As I have had this phone for a long time (3 years) I can safely say that it is quite durable. Lots of things have happened over this time (as you can imagine) and it has had some of the most difficult tests; water, concrete, sand and much more have tested how much the Monte can take before it stops working. So, I can say that the Monte is quite durable as it has survived through thick and thin (sometimes quite literally). But yet again durable phones aren't that hard to find (cheaply) in today's ever growing Market, so this aspect is also rendered useless. ...

Dell Inspiron 570 MT 20/07/2011

Is this a good dell or a bad deal?

Dell Inspiron 570 MT As you can deduce from the title I am going to have a look at whether the dell inspiron 570 MT is a good desktop computer or a waste of space. I will be doing this through looking at each of the computers aspects, from looks to software. So read on to get some of my thoughts on this interesting purchase. Looks- the first thing that you notice when the tower is re-leaved of it's packaging is it's stunning looks. The slick black front looks very modern and would look good in almost any home. This is accompanied by the matte grey, which makes the shiny black front look more pronounced, through the contrast. The black colour is continued through the range of necessities that come with the tower; the mouse, keyboard and the wires, which are all matte black. This fluidity is important to the computer as a whole, as doesn't make people think twice about getting the computer, if they don't think it would go with the rest of their home. Software- the inspiron 570 MT is pre-loaded with windows 7, so there is the capability to download all the newest and oldest software, and do it quite quickly. It can also have the latest Microsoft 2010 put on it, which makes this piece of technology good for at home or at work. The internal memory of the dell is also good, which enables the owner to stuff lots of software into the computer, at least as much as they wish. Performance- this computer's processing speed is very quick (with the AMD Sempron 140 processor at a speed of 2.7GHz), which ...

Mars Bar 19/07/2011

Work, Rest or Play?

Mars Bar In recent times the mars bar, the centre of the mars empire, has adopted a new slogan, "Work, Rest and Play", which helps it to link with the English National Football Team. The slogan, in my opinion, could be an attempt to make the public aware that mars bars can be eaten during any time of their life; working, resting or playing. But, is the mars bar itself work, rest or play? Taste- the mars bar has a fairly simple structure, with nougat and caramel covered in chocolate. This means that the bar itself isn't overwhelming. The quality of each of these parts is very high, with the chocolate the same as in mars' galaxy and both the nougat and the caramel being made in the best way, using good quality ingredients. The mars bar isn't too rich either, the ratio of each of the aspects is perfect, with them complimenting each other amazingly. Smell- to me the smell of the bar is also to die for. When the wrapper is first ripped, your nose is hit with a sudden whiff of decedent chocolate. This is subsequently followed by the delicious smell of a mixture of the nougat and caramel, which is even more to die for. For me, the indulgent smell of the bar is just the first step towards completing the journey to mars. Packaging- the plain and simply packaging of the mars bar is another thing that appeals to me. The black background enables them to put anything they could want on to the top of it (colour-wise), like the eye-catching logo, at least that is what I think. The logo is very ...

Apple iPod touch MC540FD/A 8 GB 4th Generation 18/07/2011

The endless possibilities of the iPod touch...

Apple iPod touch MC540FD/A 8 GB 4th Generation When I got my iPod touch I was a bit skeptical. How wrong was I. To be blunt, the iPod touch is amazing. The possibilities are endless, literally. Below i'm going to sum up each different aspect of the iPod touch; Applications- this is were the iPod touch comes into it's own. I can safely say that there is nothing else on the market that can match the iPod "app" system. There are lots of apps for different people, with musical apps for the musician and drawing apps for the artist. With all this choice it is sometimes hard to know where to start! The pricing of the apps is often fair, with the majority of them free, or with a free version, or reasonably cheap, lots of them just £0.59. There are plenty of apps above this price and a few that are quite expensive, sometimes £10.00 or more. But, these apps often have a reason for being expensive, with a unique aspect, like the "sat nav" app. I personally love the apps of the iPod touch, which is the main reason why I would recommend them to anyone. Music- being an iPod the music within it has to be good, which it is. I have an iPod classic, for music, but some of my favorite songs are on my iPod touch. As I have both I can say that the music quality is the same on both of them. On the newer iPod touches, you can play the music through the speakers, which makes it better than my iPod classic. The only downside, if you can call it one, is the internal memory of the iPod. I think you can only get 8 gigabytes, which just isn't big ...
