Samsung S1065 04/01/2009

Fantastic picture quality and a bargain price

Samsung S1065 I was after a new camera and thought that while the sales are on it would be a good time to look. A friend had showed me her new pink samsung camera which was 10mp (mega pixels) and said it was a really good price. I decided to do a bit of research and came across 2 cameras both by Samsung for around the same price. The first one i looked at was the Samsung D1070 10mp which was available in Comet in pink or black for £69.99. I decided this was a little bit too pink as it was a bit barbie for me so had a look in Argos where i came across the Samsung S1065 10mp camera for £58.29 (reduced from £79.99) i decided that this was the one i wanted and it was available in silver or pink. Not wanting a silver one i went with the pink. Unlike the D1070 this camera was a much lighter pink. So with the camera bought i headed home to test it out. ** CAMERA FEATURES ** ~ 10.2mp ~ 5x optical zoom ~ 2.7 inch LCD screen ~ Face detection (9 faces) ~ SD memory card compatible ~ 17mb internal memory ~ movie capture with sound ~ 13 scene modes ~ requires 2x AA batteries (supplied) ~ box contains manual, strap, USB cable, software ** LOOK & FEEL ** This camera weighs 160g with a size of 6.3cm (H), 9.8cm (W) and 2.5cm (D). The colour is much nicer than the picture on the Argos website and is a nice pale pearly pink. It has a nice large screen on the back for viewing your photos. ** STARTING THE CAMERA ** The battery compartment is on the bottom and like with any ...

The National Sealife Centre, United Kingdom 31/08/2008

Sea the world a different way

The National Sealife Centre, United Kingdom I love visiting anywhere with sea life so a trip to the National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham for my birthday seemed a great idea. The first Sea Life Centre opened in 1979 in Scotland and the centres have come a long way since then with different shaped aquariums and technololgy making your experience even better. The Birmingham centre opened in 1996 and is situated in the canal district in the city centre right next to the National Indoor Arena. Its very easy to get to by car or train. ~~What is there to see~~ Upon arriving inside the centre you are inside the reception area where you get your tickets. Right behind you is the start of your experience where the first thing you see is a huge cyclinder aquarium reaching up to the ceiling full of all kinds of tropical fish. As you work your way around the centre you see different themed areas full of the types of fish you'd typically find there such as the Carribean and Australia. You are allowed to take photos in most areas though some you cant, these are signed and tell you not to use cameras or recording equipment. They have areas dedicated to sea horses, turtles and otters where you can see all different types from all over the world. The Birmingham centre is doing a lot of research and campaigns to help protect these animals which are endangered. As you go down to the turtle sanctuary in a lift there is a big poster on the wall inside the lift showing all the different types of turtle in the world and how ...

Cadbury World, Birmingham 31/08/2008

Chocolate fun for the whole family

Cadbury World, Birmingham As a bit of a chocolate fan i have visited Cadbury World 3 times in my lifetime and two of those times have been this year! So i am here to tell you a bit about it and why you should go. ~~A Quick History Lesson, chocolate style!~~ Cadbury's first started when John Cadbury opened his first shop way back in 1824. In 1831 John Cadbury started producing drinking chocolate. In 1878 John moved Cadburys to it's current site in Bournville after it's original premises became too small. John Cadbury's two sons who worked for the business had a vision of creating a real sense of community where they wanted their employees to be able to have a great lifestyle away from the factory and so began to build houses, schools and sports facilities for the employees to live in and use. You can still see this village today where people still live. Cadbury dairy milk was launched in 1905 and became the first chocolate bar to contain a glass and a half of fresh milk in every half pund of chocolate produced. In 1990 Cadbury World visitor centre opened ~~Visiting Cadbury World~~ Allow a good couple of hours to take in everything at Cadbury World as it is a large site. As you enter the builidng you will see the ticket collection desks directly on your left. It is advisable to book tickets before you arrive (more details on this later) as you could face a longer wait if you haven't prebooked. You will also see a large cafe on your right which is right next door to a very large Cadbury ...

Dolmio Pasta Sauces 11/07/2008

The best sauce by far

Dolmio Pasta Sauces I love having pasta for lunch as it's so quick and easy to make and very filling to keep me going through the day. I was fed up of adding in my own cheese, ham and salad cream to make my own sauce so decided to find something in the supermarkets to try over it. I found the pasta sauces aisle and the Dolmio Express Tomato and Basil Pasta sauce caught my attention so decided to try it. Packaging This pasta sauce comes in a packet which has a rounded base so will stand up. It has a bright red border all around the edges and the top half is bright green with the Dolmio logo in white lettering with red outline. Underneath this it has the flavour written which in this case is 'sun ripened tomoato and basil' it also tells you it's a pasta sauce and serves one. There is an image of 2 whole tomatos and one half tomato in the bottom right hand corner. This product tells you it has no artifical colours, flavours or preservatives and gives you the following nutritional information across the bottom of the packet: - 85 calories - 9.5g sugr - 2.9g fat - 0.3g saturates - 1.4g salt There is also a square in the top left corner telling you it can be microwaved in 45 seconds Price, and where to buy The price of the pasta sauce is around the £1.10 mark per packet though it's worth looking out for offers, i saw it on offer in Morrisons where i'm sure it was any 2 packets, any flavour for £2. You can buy this in most food stores and this packet that im reviewing is ...

Everything that starts with D ... 10/07/2008

A little pot of heaven

Everything that starts with D ... Whilst browsing in Boots the other day i decided to get myself a drink and noticed a chocolate brownie mousse next to the drinks in the fridge section. Well needless to say the drink idea went out the window and i had to buy one of these instead. -- The packaging -- The mousse comes in a see through round 80g tub with a brown label stuck across the top. The label has the word Delicious written on it with double brownie mousse underneath. It also has the description 'light, fluffy and choc full of brownie, we have way's with a whip'. It tells you it's free from hydrogenated fats, artificial colours and flavours. -- Per Serving -- The per serving information is also on the top of the packaging so easily seen and states it has: ~ 282 calories ~ 16g fat ~ 10g saturates ~ 0.3g salt ~ 25g sugars (the calories are per serving, the other facts are per 100g) so definitely not the healthiest of treats but it's chocolate so i couldn't say no -- Tasting the product -- Upon opening the little tub you get an instant smell of sweet chocolate and can see the tub is almost full to the top. It's light chocolate smooth mousse and darker chocolate sauce. Underneath the mousse and sauce is a nice sized chunk of chocolate brownie with small pieces of chocolate chips in it. The first taste of this leaves you wanting more. The mousse and sauce blend perfectly together and feel very light and fluffy. The brownie is soft with a melt in the mouth taste and the whole ...

Iron Maiden 09/07/2008

Scream for me Twickenham!!!!

Iron Maiden As a huge fan of Iron Maiden i was over the moon when they announced last year they would be doing a world tour during 2008. I waited patiently for all the dates to be announced so i could choose where to go. They said they'd only be doing one gig in the UK this time round so this had to be an option for me. So Twickenham on 5th July 2008 it was! The ticket itself cost £50 and with all the booking fees, postage etc that gets put on top came to a total of £77 for the show. Some people said they thought this was quite expensive but for a stadium show in London i thought this was reasonable, plus they've never played a UK stadium before so i wasn't missing out! I had my hotel booked for £63 in Teddington and then proceeded to book my train tickets on trainline.co.uk which cost £57 one way and the same to return. So with everything booked and all tickets in hand i was ready to set off. The day itself was really warm and sunny which i was very pleased about as hadn't fancied being stuck outside in the rain. Arriving in Twickenham it didn't need a rocket scientist to work out which direction the stadium was in so i followed all the other Iron Maiden t-shirts. The stadium itself looked pretty big from the ouside and everything was very well sign posted so i found my gate very easily. Before going in i decided to get my merchandise and this had to be the main downside to the day. I queued for 40 minutes just to get a tour programme (costing £10) and a scarf (costing ...

The Park Lodge Hotel, Teddington 09/07/2008

A lovely night's stay

The Park Lodge Hotel, Teddington I needed a hotel to stay in on the 5th July for going to see Iron Maiden at Twickenham stadium. I started looking around for hotels back in November 2007 and came across the website activehotels.com. I searched for hotels around the Twickenham area when this one, The Park Hotel came up in a place called Teddington which claimed it wasn't far away from the stadium. The website had said that the Park Hotel is a 3* and owned by Folio Hotels. This is a grade 2 listed building and looked very nice from the photo's i'd seen. It has 43 large double rooms but some are adapted for families and disabled guests. It also mentioned it had a bar and restaurant so thought it sounded fine for my needs. A double room was going to cost me £63, but had i booked the hotel through the companies website Folio Hotels i'd have paid £95 for the same room! So seeing this as a bargain i booked it. I didn't bother adding on breakfast as for £8.95 for a buffet or £12.95 for a full english i thought this sounded far too pricey. I got an email confirmation come through pretty quickly after booking which had directions on the bottom for people driving. As i was going down by train i didn't need this part. So last weekend i headed down to Twickenham and attempted to find the hotel. Coming out of Twickenham station the road signs pointed left to Teddington and just 2 miles away. I couldn't see any taxi's but there was a bus stop right outside the station so hopped on that. £2 for the fare and a ...

The Body Shop & my Little Life Saver

Everything that starts with B ... I have recently been to a Body Shop Party at a friends house and was surprised how good it was. Normally i only use Liz Earle products so was going more for the social side of it and to see friends i hadn't seen for ages, and hadn't intended on buying anything. In the past the only thing i've ever really bought from The Body Shop has been lip balms. ~~ The Party~~ The evening was done very well with the Sales Advisor giving a demonstration of a facial on the hostess and passing round all the products she used for us to test out. She talked to us about the importance of cleansing, toning and moisturising properly and making sure we used the right products to suit our skin type. The Body Shop has 6 skin care ranges to suit all types from sensiive, oily/combination, dry and a range especially designed for mature skin. Samples from all the ranges were passed round so we could see what the products smelt like. We had their range of Body Butters to sample aswell. These have always been a best seller in the Body Shop and they have 15 to choose from. These are designed for all over moisturisation and some are designed for very dry skin. They do some which are made from nuts including Coconu, Almond, Shea and Brazil Nut, and some are made from fruits including Grapefruit, Strawberry, Satsuma and Mango. They all smell really really nice and my favourite is the Mango one. It smells really fruity and good enough to eat. All the body butters come in large 200ml tubs for ...

L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Milk 07/04/2008

A Gorgeous Golden Glow

L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Milk In my mission to find a good self tanner i found the Sublime Bronze self tanning milk in Boots on special offer of a 1/3 off. It normally retails for £10.99 fo a 150ml bottle but is curently on sale for £7.32. I chose the Sublime Bronze poduct by L'oreal after seeing the advert for their dry mist spray. It was also tested on the pogramme 'This Morning' and the results looked really good. I thought the spray may stain everywhere which is why i chose the milk instead. ~~Packaging~~ This product comes in a lovely bronzed tan coloured bottle which has a pump action. You turn the lid side ways to lock it so theres no risk of it leaking or being knocked and getting the product everywhere. It has the L'oreal Paris logo at the top of the bottle in gold with Sublime Bronze underneath in white and brown writing. It also says its a Self Tanning Smooth Melting Milk Fluid that gives you 12 hour hydration and a streak free natural looking tan. It's suitable for use on both the face and body. ~~Trying it out ~~ As i have already tested the Garnier Summer Body product on my legs i have used this one on my arms. I like the fact it's a pump action as it gives you a nice controlled amount of the cream. It comes out white and is fairly light, it's not a runny product like i thought it would be with it saying 'milk' on the bottle, it's a cream consistency. It spreads very well and melts in and dries very quickly. I was able to get dressed again after only a couple of ...

Garnier Summer Body Moisturising Lotion 05/04/2008

Give your skin a sun kissed look

Garnier Summer Body Moisturising Lotion I have naturally very pale skin and no matter how long i stay in the sun i never tan, just burn then go white again. I've finally had enough and this summer want to be able to show of my legs without them looking like they've seen a ghost. I decided i'd try and find a self tanner that actually works so over the coming weeks i will be writing several reviews in my aim to find a tanner that works (and thanks to Boots 3 for 2 offers i have several to write about) The first one i've tried is Garnier's Summer Body moisturising lotion with self tanner built in. Now this product was already in the bathroom cabinet and whilst my mom was on holiday i thought i'd borrow it and test it out. Having looked around to see how much this product normally sells for it averages at around £5.65 though at the moment Boots have it on offer for only £2.82!! So what do you get for your money? Well you get a nice large golden yellow bottle with a white flip lid. It has Garnier's logo on the front and tells you its Moisturising Lotion Sun-Kissed Look with Camomile extract. It also says it gives you effective moisturisation from morning to night and gradually builds a light natural looking tan. You get 400ml for £5.65 which isn't a bad price. Now having read about self tanners online it says the best way to get an even streak free look is to make sure the area you want to apply it has been exfoliated and moisturised. So i followed this advice and exfoliated and moisturised thoroughly before ...

Pizza Express 21/03/2008

A wonderful evning out

Pizza Express I first came across Pizza Express when i went with my family last month to visit my brother at University for his birthday. My brother had described it to us s a posh version of Pizza Hut with more choice and was more tasty. I absolutly love pizza so this sounded right up my street. ~~Arriving~~ The first thing that struck me as we entered Pizza Express in Leamington Spa was the smell. It smelled heavenly of all different yummy food smells and i couldn't wait to take a look t the menu. The restaurant itself was nice and spacious and fairly modern. The kitchen area is based within the main restaurant and is one of those open ones so you can see everything being prepared. They had a proper stone oven for cooking the pizzas in which i love as i think they taste nicer cooked in a proper stone oven. ~~Getting a table~~ The place was very busy as it was a Saturday evening but we managed to get a table no problem. A gentlemen came to greet us at the door and took us over to our table and gave us menus. He also asked if he could get us drinks while we looked at the menu. I thought that was good customer service. ~~The Menu~~ I was expecting the menu to be similar to that of Pizza Hut with your typical kind of pizzas but i was wrong. They had a very extensive choice and most of them had slightly different types of toppings on like different kinds of hams and cheeses, olives, capers, anchovies, asparagus and even a few pizzas with egg on them! If Pizza isn't for ...

Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara 21/03/2008

Get the look of the stars

Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara I have recently seen the advert on TV for Maxfactor's newest Masterpiece mascara, 'Beyond Length'. It's a two step mascara which firstly claims to visibly lengthen lashes by upto 70% and then add a hint of suble colour. The mascara is split into two ends with normal mascara one end and the colour in the other. Before deciding whether to purchase this i looked on their website for more details. ~~The website~~ Maxfactor's website tells you that the coloured end of this mascara contains pearl particles similar to those found in shimmering lipglosses which will give you a subtle hint of colour that will be noticed. When most people think of coloured mascara they think of the really vivid colours used in the 80's. This mascara claims it won't be like those. They have used colour because normal mascara absorbs light where as colored ones reflect it so will be more noticeable. As this product is brand new you only have to log onto the website and it's the first thing you see so it's easy to get all the details about it. It also shows you the colour combinations available. ~~Purchasing~~ I found this mascara whilst shopping in Tesco for an Introductory price of £7.99 instead of the normal £9.99. It comes in 4 colour combinations which are: - black & silver - black & bronze - black & pink - brown & bronze Whilst it's on offer and because i wanted to try them i decided to buy 2 so i got the black and silver and black and bronze ones. ~~Packaging~~ The ...

Charles Worthington Take-Aways 20/03/2008

Brillaintly Shiney and soft hair

Charles Worthington Take-Aways After my regular shampoo had started making my hair greasy it was time for another change. I had tried most of the shampoos in Tesco's at one time or another so was looking for something new to try. What caught my eye was a slim, oval shaped bottle that was quite wide in bright yellow packaging. I instantly liked the different shape of the bottle and the colour. Picking it up i read the front which had Charles Worthington Salon Shine Results written in silver with Brilliant Shine underneath in bronze. It claimed to give you 'Super Shiney Hair'. My hair had recently become dull and lifeless so this sounded just what i needed. Reading the back it say's it dramatically boosts hair shine by upto 80%, smooths and softens the hair, washes away daily impurities and smooth's the hair's cuticle. The bottle i'd picked up was 250ml and cost £4.99. As i'd never used the product before it seemed a little expensive so looking again at the shelf i spotted the perfect thing, mini versions of the shampoo! The same packaging just a smaller 75ml version for just £1.65. I decided to try the smaller versions first as they weren't going to break the bank should i not like it. I got both the Brilliant Shine shampoo and the Brilliant Shine conditioner. First use The product has a lovely sweet smell to it which is just right and not overpowering. It doesnt lather up particulalry well at all with the first wash so i did a second wash. It still didnt lather up much but it was more ...

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic 08/01/2008

Silky soft skin that feels refreshed

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic I first heard about Liz Earle when watching Channel 4's 'How to Look Good Naked and one of the products, Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser was mentioned. My cleanser wasn't overly brilliant so thought i'd give this one a go. After seeing the effects of how brilliant this product was i decided to try some other products which leads me to write this review first of Instant Boost Skin Tonic. Firstly what's the website like? Very easy to navigate. If you've never used it before the easiest option is to select 'Skincare Experts' from the top menu bar and then select 'Know Your Skin. This takes you to a screen where you select the problem areas you may have for your skin and at the end it gives you all the best products for you. This is what i did and am SO glad i did! You can also just select the type of product you may be after such as cleanse or tone and if you've used them before you can go back to your order history and re-order the same things again making it quicker to replenish your products. There are also customer feedback to go with every product and lots of information on each one so you know exactly what your getting for your money. So what is it? Refreshes, soothes and comforts, it's an alcohol free gentle toner containing aloe vera and vitamin E to condition skin leaving it velvety soft and radiant. What's in it? All the Liz Earle products contain natural ingredients and i believe having used the products for a couple of months now that this is ...
