Closer Magazine 09/06/2004

Celebrity Gossip

Closer Magazine I am always buying different magazine's, but lately I have been buying Closer. The main reason I decided to buy it was to read all the celebrity gossip. The magazine is bright pink in colour with photo's and what stories are going to be inside the magazine that week. It comes out once a week and only cost £1 which is a real bargain. With it coming out weekly you get to catch up on all the latest gossip. There have been 87 issues so far so has been around for quite a while now. The magazine is published by EMAP entertainement on behalf of EMAP grouip PLC. The magazine has different sections and these are:- News Features Lifestyle Puzzles Closer TV Destiny 7 Deadly Sins News is obviously all the latest gossip on the stars. Features. This covers stories on stars and people in real life too like Who's got the best facelift and I married my grandmother. Lifetsyle includes Travel and Advice. Here you can send in your letters if you want any advice on anything. Puzzles. Here you can do crosswords, Spot the difference and saying and Word Searche's. There is also the chance to win money too if you complete any of the puzzles. Can't say that I have ever completed a whole puzzle though. Closer TV. This covers what is on television for the week. With this you won't have to buy a seperate television guide. It also has Closer choices where they choose some programmes and tell you about them. The television guide only does the basic 5 channels ...

L'Oreal Open Color 03/03/2004

Change of colour

L'Oreal Open Color I have dyed my hair a few times now as I love to change it. I used L'oreal Open Color. I decided to use this hair dye because I have used it before and I liked the colour that I chose. There are different colours to choose from in this range and these inlude blonde, brown and red's. I have only bought the different shades of red though. This time I bought Darkest Burgundy brown. The hair dye comes in a light blue box juts like all the other dye's do. There is a woman on the front of the box with her dyed so you can see what the colour will look like. It shows you the results before and after so you will have an idea if you will like it or not. My hair colour does look like what it says on the box. In the box you get:- 1 bottle of gel colourant 1 bottle of developer cream 1 bottle of after colour conditioner 1 pair of gloves 1 instruction leaflet. Each of the bottles are clearly numbered 1 to 3 so you know which one is which. They are also labelled with what they are as well. I used 2 boxes of this hair dye because I have long hair. I used to use just 1 but you can't see the colour as much as you can if you use 2 boxes of it. Before you can dye your hair you need to mix it all together. Make sure you wear the gloves that are provided as the dye goes everywhere. You need to mix the colourant gel which is bottle 1 with the cream developer which is bottle 2. The developer bottle is the one you mix them in to as it has a nozzle which makes it easier to apply ...

Kirkgate Arndale Centre, Bradford 05/11/2003

Shops shops and more shops

Kirkgate Arndale Centre, Bradford The kirgate Arndale shopping centre is right in the centre of Bradford and is easy to get to, either by bus, train, coach, car or taxi. Here all the shops are under one roof and just recently it has been done up with a new cafe, roof and lift. It's not as big as some other shopping centres like the ones in Leeds or Manchester, but they do have a wide range of shops to choose from though. You would find something that you are looking for. The shopping centre is on two floors and on the top floor there is an indoor market, which sells clothes, cards and lots more stuff. On a Wednesday afternoon the indoor market is closed but the rest of the shopping center does stay open. It stays open 6 days a week but now that it is nearer Christmas it does open on a Sunday as well. Hours of opening are 9am until 5:30pm but the car park does open earlier and stay open a bit longer than what all the shops do. Some of the shops in the kirgate arndale centre are:- Boots Bay Trading New Look Birthday's Lucy Lockets (jewellery) W H Smith Argos Index Body Care and many more shops There are many other shops which are just outside the kirgate centre, so there are plenty of shops to choose from. There is something for everyone. Also recently they have opened an Ann Summers. If you are looking for something to eat, then there are loads of cafe's on the second floor in the indoor market. There is also Bakers Oven which is just the same as greggs and this is ...

Recipes for Soups 10/09/2003

For those cold days

Recipes for Soups Since it is nearly winter I thought I would share with you some recipes for soup. Hope that you like them. CELERY SOUP For this recipe you will need:- 1 Celery 1 quarter of milk and water 2 Leeks 1 Dessertspoon flour 1 ½ oz margarine salt and pepper Clean the celery well and cut in to small pieces. Do the same with the leeks as well. Melt the margarine and put the celery and leeks in to the pan. Stew for 5 minutes, stiring the pan occasionally. Then add the milk and water and boil until the celery is tender. Mix in the flour with a little bit of milk and stir it in. Allow the soup to boil for about 3 minutes and then it is ready to serve. FRENCH SOUP For this recipe you will need:- 8 carrots 1 Turnip 1 Onion 1 stick of celery 3 oz butter rind of bacon bit of sugar First of all cut all the carrots, turnip, onion in to pieces and boil in a pan of salted water for about 20 minutes. The put all these vegetables in to another pan with 3 oz of butter, rind of bacon and sprinkle a bit of sugar on to them. Once soft mash them all and pass this through in to a colander and put back in pan with a bit more butter and boil for an hour. When it looks like a thick puree it is ready for serving. CREAM OF TOMATO AND PEA SOUP For this recipe you will need:- 2 cups of cooked peas 3 or 4 cups tomato soup 2 cups cream Put the peas through a sieve and add the tomato soup to the peas. Add ...

Clairol Herbal Essences 2 in 1 Shampoo plus Conditioner 15/08/2003

I smell fruity

Clairol Herbal Essences 2 in 1 Shampoo plus Conditioner I usually use Pantene 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, but for a change I thought I would try Clairol Herbal Essences 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner for normal hair, to see what it was like. It comes in a 250ml clear bottle with a green flip lid. On the front of the bottle is the name of the product and a flower in a circle. Also inside the bottle there is a picture of a flower, which shows through the sticker that they stick on the back. The lid is really easy to open and it does not hurt your fingers trying to open it like some flip lids do. Also none of the shampoo leaks down the bottle with it being a flip lid which is good. There are different shampoo's in the Herbal Essence range but I have only tried the 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner as I always seem to buy 2 in 1's, but not for any particular reason though. To use, squeeze some on to your hand, massage in to wet hair, lather and rinse throughly. I have quite long hair but find that I do not have to use loads as it lathers up really well. I use the size of about a 50p coin. I usually wash my hair 2 or 3 times a week, but the shampoo seems to last ages as I have had it for over a month now. When you see the shampoo through the bottle, it looks like it is a really light lilac colour, but once you have squeezed some on to your hands it is clear in colour. The shampoo is quite thick in consistency so does not run off your hands when trying to wash your hair. It consists of Lavender, ...

Recipes for Main Courses 18/07/2003

Tasty Chicken

Recipes for Main Courses I love chicken, so thought I would share with you some of my favourite chicken dishes that you can have as a main course. CHICKEN AND CHEESE JACKETS This recipe is for 4 people so you will need to adjust the amount of food accordingly. The ingredients that you will need are:- 4 Large baked potatoes 225g/8oz cooked boneless chicken breasts 4 spring onions 250g/9oz soft cheese Pepper First of all you need to wash the potatoes and pat them dry with a kitchen towel. Then prick the potatoes with a fork all over. Bake in the over at gas mark 6 for about 50 minutes until tender or put in the microwave for about 12-15 minutes on high setting. I usually put them in the microwave as they cook a lot faster than they would in the oven. Then with a knife, dice the chicken and slice the spring onions. Then place them both in a bowl. Add the soft cheese to the chicken and spring onions and stir them well. Cut a cross through the potatoes on the top and pull slightly apart. Spoon the chicken filling in to the potatoes and sprinkle with pepper. SAGE CHICKEN AND RICE This recipe is based on 4 people The ingredients that you will need are:- 1 Onion chopped 1 garlic clove crushed 2 celery sticks sliced 2 carrots diced 2 sprigs fresh sage 300ml/10fl oz chicken stock 350g/12oz boneless chicken breasts 225g/8oz mixed brown and wild rice 400g/14oz chopped tomatoes Dash of Tabasco sauce 2 courgettes thinly sliced 100g ...

Practical Parenting 19/06/2003

Practical Information

Practical Parenting Practical Parenting is a magazine for parent's and parent's-to-be. It comes out monthly and will cost you £2.40 which I think is a good price to pay. I have the July edition, so it is the most up to date one out at the moment. The front cover has a picture of a mum holding a baby, and the cover stories that are including which are:- - 10 danger signs that you need to know. - Baby sleep worries. - Your A-Z guide to baby and toddler safety in the sun. - The easiest ways to balance work and babies. - Tried and tested - 3 Wheeler buggies, travel cots and outdoor toys. - Quick ways to banish toddler bad behaviour forever. As you can see the articles cover everything from babies to toddlers. Most months they give away free gifts on the front of the magazine. Some of them have been a plastic cutlery set and a changing mat. Inside the magazine this month there was Pampers sensitive baby wipes. The magazine is set in to different sections to make it easier to read. The first part is You and your pregnancy, then it is you and your baby, then you and your family and then lots more which includes letters, news, subscribing to the magazine, freebies to win and what is coming up in next months edition of the magazine. I find you and your pregnancy more useful to me at the moment with being pregnant. Though the magazine will still be useful to me when I have had the baby. I have kept all copies of the one I have bought so far, so I can always look back at ...

Predictor Pregnancy Test 11/05/2003

Find out if you are pregnant

Predictor Pregnancy Test There are different pregnancy tests to use but the one that I bought was the Predictor pregnancy test. There was no particular reason apart from the fact this is the only one in the supermarket that they had. It comes in a white and pink box and the test is a foil wrapper so you know that it has not be tampered with in any way. The box gives you details of how to use the test and there is also instructions inside the box too. The test is white and plastic and is in 2 parts. One is the stick with a pink end which you wee on and the other part is where you put the stick with the windows to see if you are pregnant or not. It is very easy to use. All you do is wee on the stick where it is pink and insert it in to the cartridge part. You need to wee on the stick for a second. Once you have done this then you just need to wait for 4 minutes for your results. There are 3 windows where your results show. The control window is to make sure that you have done the test properly. It's easy to do though so you shouldn't do anything wrong. The extra check window is where the pink dot should disappear. The result window is if you are or aren't pregnant. So if you have a oink dot in the result window and control window, then you are pregnant. If there is just a pink dot in the control window then you aren't pregnany. The pregnany test is 99% accurate and can be used at any time of day or night. I used it in the evening so that both me and John (cowboy22) could see ...

Organics Color Activ 25/04/2003

Fruity hair

Organics Color Activ I usually use Pantene 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner but when I dyed my hair quite recently I thought I would try a different shampoo especially for coloured hair. The one that I decided to try was Organics Colour active which is for coloured hair. This is just a shampoo though and not a 2 in 1 that I usually do buy. You can also buy the Colour Activ conditioner to go with this shampoo but I did not bother. I find that this shampoo does not make your hair colour stay any longer in your hair as mine is starting to fade now even though it is especially for coloured hair. I still recommend the shampoo though as it makes your hair shiny and soft and cleans your hair. The shampoo comes in 200ml light green bottle with a pink flip lid. It has Organics in black writing on the front and the hair type that it is for. The bottle stands out on the shelves because of the colours. The flip lid is easy to open and with it having a flip lid none of the shampoo leaks out down the bottle. I have been using this shampoo for about 4 or 5 weeks now and I have still got quite a bit left of it and I usually wash my hair at least twice a week. I have long hair but don’t need to use loads as it does lather up really well. I used about the size of a 50p coin. To use, just squeeze some on to your hand and lather in to your hair and then rinse all the shampoo out. Rinse out of your eyes if you get any in as it will sting. The shampoo is white in colour and is quite thick in consistency. ...

Wilkinsons Lady Protector Shaving Mousse 02/04/2003

Lady Protector

Wilkinsons Lady Protector Shaving Mousse Lady Protector is a shaving mousse made by Wilkinson Sword. I saw this on the shelf at Morrrisons so I thought I would try it and see what it was like. It is obviously aimed at women and you will find it on the shelves with all the other shaving gels and mousses for women. The shaving mousse comes in a 150ml can which is white with a woman shaving her under arms on the front. There is a nozzle for the mousse to come out of with a purple see through lid. The nozzle is easy to hold down which makes it easy for the mousse to come out. I find that once you have used it the mousse does end up all around the nozzle, though that can be wiped off easily. The can is quite boring to look at really and does not catch your eye at all. To use wet the area you are going to shave with warm water which I do in the shower. Then squirt on to your hand or on the required area and rub in. Shave and rinse off. It is quite thick in consistency and is white in colour. It is soft and creamy to touch. It has a very light fragrant smell but to be honest you can hardly smell it really. It smells like the cheap shaving foams that you can get. It would have been better if it was a nicer smell. It does lather well on to your skin but you do need to use quite a bit with it being a mousse and not a gel. The main ingredients are Camomile and Aloe Vera extracts which helps moisturize and care for your skin when you shave and makes the razor glide over your skin more easier. I find that ...
