The Fall (DVD) 14/12/2015

Jamie Dornan is Killing it in The Fall

The Fall (DVD) BBC Drama The Fall follows the incredibly sexy Paul Spector (Fifty Shades' Jamie Dornan) around the streets of Northern Ireland while he murders brunette, professional women. After 28 days of investigation, the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) are no further forward in catching our alluring killer, Metropolitan Police Superintendent Stella Gibson (X Files' Gillian Anderson) is sent over to help solve the case. Over the next 5 episodes, a cat and mouse chase ensues as Stella tries to stop Paul in his tracks. It is a seductive and captivating crime drama - a total must-see. Currently, there are two series with a third series on the way. You can buy both series on iTunes, Amazon and everywhere else you would think of looking. You can also watch the first series for free on Amazon Instant, but you have to pay for the second series which it seems it's frustrating normal for Amazon Instant. Characters & Cast Paul Spector - Jamie Dornan If Jamie had been Paul Spector in 50 Shades of Grey, it would have been a much better movie - especially if he had murdered the annoying Dakota Johnson. Gone is the awkward, weird Mr Grey with a terrible American accent. Instead, we have a hot, attractive guy with the most seductive Irish accent who just happens to kill women. Whenever I talk to other women about The Fall, they always say they wouldn't mind getting killed by Paul Spector. It's really strange for me to watch this guy killing someone, but think how sexy he is at the same ...

Intimina Lily Cup 02/12/2015

The End of Vampire Teabags...

Intimina Lily Cup ***WARNING*** This review contains a lot of period chat. Like a lot. Ah, menstruation. One of life’s great joys… If you can call sitting with, what is basically, a nappy in your pants or stuffing cotton up your lady passage joyful. Oh and don’t forget about the excruciating cramps, the tender baby pillows or the absolute rage you feel when your other half does… well anything and the even bigger rage you get when they blame your mood on the fact that it’s your time of the month (sorry Mr xKatieeex). They are the biggest pain in the vag and anything that can make them a little easier is always welcome. A few years ago, I was looking up alternatives to tampons & pads and came across menstrual cups. I can’t really remember how I came across them, but I can say that they have changed my life. There are many different types of menstrual cups on the market now, I initially started off with Mooncup which seems the most popular. I needed to replace this, so did a bit of research into the other brands and came across Lily Cup. I didn’t particularly like the Lily Cup, I feel that the Mooncup was far superior but don’t let this put you off menstrual cups altogether. They really make a massive difference to your monthly period, I just don’t think this cup was right one for me. What’s a Menstrual Cup? A Lily Cup is a small cup inserted into your vagina like a tampon, but instead of absorbing your period, it collects it. They are reusable, generally made of silicon and are much ...

Una Brennan Superfacialist Vitamin C+ Dark Circles Eye Cream 30/11/2015

Not Super, But Pretty Good

Una Brennan Superfacialist Vitamin C+ Dark Circles Eye Cream At work, I do awful shifts which in turn, makes me look awful. There are days where I'm getting up at 4am for an early shift and other days where I'll be coming home at midnight from doing a late shift. Sometimes, when I'm really lucky, I'll come home from a late shift and be doing an early shift the very next day. Hello dark circles, wrinkles and eyebags! I'd been becoming more aware of how terrible my dark circles had become - mainly due to my parents telling me how awful I looked whenever I went to visit them. My eyebags even managed to get me a free holiday with my mum last year as she thought I looked really run down and needed a break. At 26, with no children and no real worries or stresses in my life, I felt that I needed to do something about my eyes as it's only going to get worse! I'd been browsing online at the various eye creams available with all their over inflated claims of making you look 17 and fresh when I came across this. Some reviews were very excited women exclaiming how wonderful they looked after only using this for a few days, others were full of disappointment. I chose to try this one as I liked that it didn't target everything; it didn't list off all these magical claims about the 23 signs of ageing it'll combat. It just said it targets dark circles and fine lines. Super Facialist Dark Circles Eye Cream Taken from their website; A high potency eye cream boosted with light diffusers to target dark circles under the eye area. Skin brightening ...

Soap & Glory Scrub Atomic Amazing Daily Face Polish 29/11/2015

If you want to get rid of your dry, dull skin - this is for you!

Soap & Glory Scrub Atomic Amazing Daily Face Polish I reviewed another Soap & Glory face wash recently, where I mentioned that I got this one as part of the buy one, get one half price offer. I was reluctant to use this as I’d had such an awful experience with the other face wash, but I didn’t really want to waste more money on another unused Soap & Glory product so I decided to go for it! The Soap & Glory Scrubatomic Daily Face Polish has turned out to be a pleasant surprise I’m happy to say, much nicer than their other offering. Scrubatomic The following is taken from the Soap & Glory website. Soap & Glory™ Scrubatomic™ has antioxidant-rich PEACH & GOJUICE™ extracts, fast-acting FRUIT SMOOTHERS, and gentle D-CLOG™ MICROPEEL BEADS to sweep off brightness-dulling dead skin cells. It’s gorgeously foamy, super smoothing and fantastic. Use 4 - 7 times a week (according to your level of clog) and see the power of SCRUB! • NATURAL AHA FRUIT SMOOTHERS - a blend of bilberry, sugarcane, sugar maple, orange and lemon that dissolves the glue that keeps dead skin stuck to your cells • GENTLE D-CLOG™MICROPEEL BEADS - a skin-brightening blend of ultra-fine clay plus super-sweeping silica particles which naturally polish away dulling skin cells • PEACH & GOJUICE™ (peach and goji berry extracts) - rich in antioxidants and vitamins A & C SHEA BUTTER - for its moisture trapping matrix You can buy this from Boots for £9 and they also have a buy one, get one half price offer on just now. Use Firstly, although this is a daily polish, I ...

Gift Republic Animal Mug 25/11/2015

Purrfect Catmas Present for any Ailurophile

Gift Republic Animal Mug If you haven't already noticed - I'm a crazy cat lady. I used to be a bit scared of animals, especially dogs but my husband-to-be really wanted cats so we got two little kittens in February. It's cured me a bit of my animal phobia, I've even been able to touch a dog whereas before I'd be in tears cowering behind someone. My two cats are Sirius and Zotto and they are literally my favourite ever things. I'd heard horror stories of how horrible cats can be and I can totally understand why people don't like them, but we've been so lucky with ours. They're so friendly, inquisitive and affectionate - I love them so much. My Facebook is full of cat pictures, my Instagram is actually a Catsagram and I don't stop talking about them. My friends are really fed up with me. I love all things cat and when I saw this mug in Topshop, I almost squealed. I immediately picked it up, even though I'm skint and should have been doing Christmas shopping. It is so cute! You've Cat To Be Kitten Me - £10?!?! The mug comes in a little grey box with white dots and some pink detailing. There's a cut out at the front of the box so you can see a little bit of the mug. The mug itself is porcelain and completely white apart from little black whiskers and a wee pink nose on the front. There are two cat ears at the front of the mug and the handle is made to look like a tail. I got this mug for £10 from Topshop, but it's available online at the following link for £9.99 - ...

Soap & Glory Face Soap and Clarity Foaming Face Wash 19/11/2015

If you want dry, dull skin - this is for you!

Soap & Glory Face Soap and Clarity Foaming Face Wash I am desperately in need of a new face wash, I've just been using water for the past wee while and my skin is in dire need of a good cleanse. I love Liz Earle's cleanse and polish, but as it's nearing Christmas and I have a wedding to pay for, it's way out of my price range just now. I was having a browse in Boots and came across this Soap & Glory Face Soap and Clarity 3-in-1 Daily Detox Vitamin C Facial Wash - that's a mouthful! I thought it looked like a nice bottle, I like Soap & Glory's The Righteous Butter lotion and it was in a buy one, get one half price offer. I picked this product up, as well as 'Scrubatomic' - a daily facial polish. I have only used this for a week and I literally can't use it for any longer than that - not even for the sake of writing a review based on the extended use of this product. My skin has never looked so bad - it's dry and rough. Even Liz Earle's moisturiser won't help! I am still in desperate need of a good face wash. I'm a Magpie I just picked this up because I liked the look of it. It's quite a large bottle (for a face wash anyway!), completely clear with the usual Soap & Glory cutesy designs on it. The stickers on the bottle have a white background with the writing being black and pink, like most of the other Soap & Glory products. You can see the blue gel liquid inside with little pink beads suspended within. It has a flip-top lid that seems quite robust. I've dropped it a couple of times - waking up at 4.30am for work seems to ...

La Fiorentina, Glasgow 11/11/2015

La Fiorentina

La Fiorentina, Glasgow It was my dad's 70th birthday and as a family tradition, we would always go see a movie - generally James Bond if there was a new one coming out - and then go for dinner. We went to see the new James Bond at the Glasgow Quay and needed somewhere close by for dinner due to my mum not being great at walking distances. Glasgow Quay's offerings are limited with various fast food options like Nandos or Frankie&Benny's, nothing special or anywhere my dad would actually like to go. My brother suggested La Fiorentina; a well known Italian restaurant, extremely close to The Quay on Paisley Road West. I had heard of La Fiorentina before, it's been around since 1989 and is a total Glasgow institution. None of us had ever been before, but the good reviews we'd heard from others were enough to make us book a table for my dad's special birthday. Location We walked from the Odeon at The Quay along to the restaurant, there's a wee gap between the Odeon building and the Ibis/carpark next to it which takes you out onto Paisley Road West. This saves a lot of times as otherwise, you'd need to walk right down to the entrance of Glasgow Quay which is at the other end and walk all the way around the outside of The Quay - which is what I did, in the torrential rain before I realised there was a passageway. The quick, passageway walk takes around 5 minutes. I think Glasgow Quay would be the best place to park if you were wanting to visiting La Fiorentina. It's free parking, but can get busy ...

Riverhill Cafe, Glasgow 08/11/2015

Riverhill Restaurant & Bar

Riverhill Cafe, Glasgow Riverhill was initially a restaurant in Helensburgh, which I'd always wanted to go to after being in their cafe on Gordon Street, Glasgow. The food was amazing in their cafe and they made an incredible range of desserts. They were the cafe that made Breaking Bad crystal meth cupcakes a while back, it was all over the Scottish newspapers - outrage! Although I loved the food, I didn't particularly enjoy going to the cafe. It's an extremely small place with a row of 6/7 bar stools lined up along the back wall, 2/3 at the window (great for people watching!) but that was it. It's always queued out the door, so you rarely get a seat and if I'm in town for lunch, I like to sit down and take my time with it. I especially hate bar stools, they are not built for a short girl like me. When I heard Riverhill were opening in a third location, I was very excited! They didn't travel far in their quest for a place for their new restaurant, opening the third Riverhill at 3 West Nile Street, which is literally round the corner from the cafe. Location, Contact Details & Opening Hours As I said before, it is situated at 3 West Nile Street, Glasgow. I generally walk into the city centre, but the restaurants really easy to get to if you live further afield. Central Station is at Gordon Street (where the cafe is!) so you can catch a train there and walk just round the corner. Or there is an amazing array of bus stops on Union Street and Hope Street which are either side of Central ...

Lancome Le Crayon Khol No. 583627 Black 01/11/2015

Useless!

Lancome Le Crayon Khol No. 583627 Black I adore a few of the Lancôme mascara's, they're expensive but they're amazing. I always look out for gift sets around Christmas in the hopes of buying it at a cheaper price which is how I came across this eyeliner. It's been a long time since I bought it, so I don't know exactly what price the gift set was, but the eyeliner itself is around £16/£17 depending where you get it and I'm sure you can get it cheaper if you look around. As I said, it's been a long time since I bought it and I hadn't really used the eyeliner as I much prefer Mac's Fluidline due to being able to use a brush with that. I've used it over the years for a bit of tightlining or messing about with make up, but eventually through it out as I rarely used it and my make up bag was bursting. Hallowe'en came and I got the biggest scare of all - My MAC Fluidline had dried up! Now, as I was dressing as a cat/crazy cat lady (I'm not sure what happened, I just bought a lot of cat stuff!), I had to do a bit of flicky eyeliner, whiskers, etc without any of my beloved MAC eyeliner. My friend had brought this with her so I had to make do with it. Application I rarely use eyeliner pencils, I have memories of being a 15/16 year old 'goth' with big black panda eyes drawn on by a scratchy eyeliner pencil which would make my eyes red raw. I converted to MAC's Fluidline which was much nicer on my eyes and you could apply it with precision using a nice eyeliner brush. When I began applying this to my eyes, drawing a nice ...

Spectre (DVD) 30/10/2015

Spectre

Spectre (DVD) When I was younger, my mum used to go to the bingo on a Wednesday night because the football would be on. After the football, my dad, brother and I would watch the James Bond film showing on STV. Whenever a new movie came out in the cinema, my dad would teach us to lie and pretend we were 12 so we could all go see it together. I've grown up loving Bonds and was super excited about this new one. So much so, I went to see it on opening night. I also need to go see it in a couple of weeks with my family as it's my dad's birthday. I really enjoyed the film, but for me, Skyfall was better. Plot There's some secret organisation that he needs to uncover and they're battling to keep the secret service running. I felt like the plot was pretty weak. In essence, it's a great storyline but the way it was conveyed made it less so. There were a number of significant moments throughout the movie that just weren't made to be so important. They weren't used as a plot twist or to bring extra drama to the movie - they were just there. There was a love storyline that was just a bit blah! One minute they were in love, the next, they weren't. It just wasn't very believable. We also learnt a bit about Bond's family, which I liked. It just wasn't enough though, what we did find out was quite important to the storyline but it wasn't presented in a way that showed the gravity of the information. I also felt like the film didn't have an identity. You can think of Skyfall; it's dark, cinematic and ...

Hardwired - Meredith Wild 13/10/2015

Mr Grey is still my first and only love

Hardwired - Meredith Wild I loved the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. I know it is badly written mummy porn, but I really enjoyed it. My mum also really liked Fifty Shades of Grey and would call me asking if I'd heard of a particular *ahem* 'act' before as it was all new to her. I think in the age of the internet, it would be really difficult to write a book that shocks my generation as much as it shocked her. I, of course, let my dear old mum believe that I was her innocent, naive daughter for a little longer. She recently went on holiday, picking up this book and I think in an effort to bond, she lent it to me. Mr xKatieeex thinks it's really weird that my mum's lending me erotic romance books - I find it funny. The Author I'd never heard of Meredith Wild before. It seems she's a New York Times, USA Today and international best selling author. I had a nosey at what books she's written and from what I can see, it's just The Hacker Series (this is the first book in the series) and she's started a new set of books called The Bridge Series. Her bio reveals that she has a husband and three children, she's entrepreneurial which led her to the tech industry. Now she writes or works with high tech start-ups. Her technology background is evident in this book. The Book Hardwired is the first of five in The Hacker Series, the remaining being; Hardpressed, Hardline, Hard Limit and Hard Love. See a theme? It introduces us to Erica - a graduate with a troubled past, who is about to venture into the big bad ...

John Lewis Helene Ceiling Shade 12/10/2015

The Poor Person's Chandelier

John Lewis Helene Ceiling Shade For our engagement, people were very kind and gave us load of vouchers to help us kit out our new home. This allowed us to shop in places that were usually far out of our budget, i.e. John Lewis. I decided to pretend I was a 'right classy bird' and get a chandelier. I saw this on the website and we picked it up on one of our many shopping trips before we moved in. Proper chandeliers are so beautiful, so intricate and if I ever own a home big enough, I'm deffers getting a really nice one. For now, this will do. About the Helene Ceiling Shade John Lewis know how to keep us poor people in our place - they don't even call it a chandelier! As it's a John Lewis shade, it's only available to buy from John Lewis. It's a steal at £50. To be honest, if I didn't have vouchers for John Lewis, I definitely would not spend £50 on a light shade. It's an easy-fit shade meaning it's easy to install (more on that later!) and you won't need an electrician. The measurements for it are; H38 x Dia23 x Drop 38cm. The colour of the pendant is 'gold' - more on that later too. It takes a particular type of bulb which I can't find details of on the website, this will be fun when it comes to changing it! At the side of the webpage, it has a 'customer also bought section' with the following bulb 'Philips 42W BC Halogen Classic Bulb, Clear' so I assume that's what goes with it. I think that's about all the information I can give about the product! My Opinion Packaging It's so well packaged, it ...

N-Spa Ultra Hydrate Cream 08/10/2015

Ultra Cheap & Ultra Effective!

N-Spa Ultra Hydrate Cream I have the perfect skin combination; extremely dry across my nose and cheeks with a lovely oily t-zone. Jealousy is an ugly emotion dear readers. Jokes aside, it is a pain in the butt to find a moisturiser to help balance out these two opposing skin conditions. I've tried going for mattifying moisturisers like Bodyshop's Seaweed collection (face scrub was great, but really drying and the moisturiser didn't do much to help my poor wee dry cheeks) and I've also tried oil-based skincare systems like Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish (my skin has never looked so good, my cheeks were baby soft and my complexion flawless - apart from that big shiny forehead!). Since it's getting into Winter, I really needed something that would help my skin out. I read a ton of reviews on different skincare products, I looked at cheaper options right up to the expensive ones, I compiled a list of ones I wanted to try, I tried to find discount codes for them as it seemed like all the expensive ones were good, I ended up being in Asda one day, seeing this cream on offer and picking it up because I couldn't be bothered to look anymore. NSpa To me, this is a relatively unheard of brand. They are exclusive to Asda - which I think is why it's not very well known. Their company is built on professional, affordable and indulgent beauty products based on 25 years of spa experience. They have skincare, body care and bathing ranges - many of which are awarding winning! For their skincare; the have a four step ...

Imperial Leather Classic Relaxing Shower Cream 21/09/2015

Just OK...

Imperial Leather Classic Relaxing Shower Cream When I was younger, all we used in our home was Imperial Leather bars of soap. I always associated it with an older generation, they didn't seem like a fun brand to me. I've recently started noticing that they're trying really hard to be a leading name in health & beauty with a whole host of new ranges available. They've also introduced sleeker, more modern packaging in a lot of their ranges. I recently tried a few of their shower gels and really liked them, due to their luxurious scents. After running out, I noticed that they were still on offer in my local supermarket and as I never pay more than £1 for shower gel (unless it's Soap & Glory, but that's a treat!) so I picked up a couple more bottles of different scents to try them out. I bought this one as well as a manly one for my other half. He hasn't started using his yet, so it's just the 'Relaxing' one I'll be reviewing. Packaging I really like the new Imperial Leather bottles. They're a lot easier to handle compared to cumbersome, wave shaped products they used to sell. The lid opens easily, even with wet hands but if you do have limited mobility in your hands, it may be a little harder. The bottle is a clear, recyclable plastic meaning you can see how much you have left. The lid is a lilac colour, very similar to the shower cream within the bottle. It has the Imperial Leather logo at the top with its regal gold and red colours. There is also a picture of lavender and jasmine - which is what this cream smells ...

Ikea Brusali Bedside Table 04/09/2015

BRUSALI!

Ikea Brusali Bedside Table I first bought this for my bedroom in my parents house as I didn't have anything next to my bed where I could put my phone, etc. I just had all my items sitting on the corner of my mattress and inevitably, it would fall off in the middle of the night. Great fun when I wake up at 4.30am trying to find my phone to stop my alarm going off before waking up the rest of the house! When moving into my partner and I's first home, I took this with me and we also bought another one for his side of the bed - I like symmetry! About The Bedside Table At only 66cm tall, 44cm wide and 36cm deep, it's very small. It comes in two finishes; brown and white - which we purchased. The white is a kind of faintly distressed, painted on kind of finish. Not just all white. The brown looks like a wood effect on the website - you can visit an IKEA store to make sure. Inside, there's one shelf. There's also a little cut out in the back panel so you can thread your charger through and keep all the messy wires hidden. The door can be hung to open in either direction. IKEA have a whole Brusali collection so you can get other items of furniture to match. And that's about it... It's a very basic piece of furniture! At £30, you don't really expect much more. My Thoughts I liked the look of this piece of furniture - thus why I purchased it. It's simple and practical. I like the painted/distressed effect as it doesn't look as boring, cheap and shiny as the usual IKEA lacquer. The only thing is, the ...
