Little Live Pets Clever Keet Bird 25/01/2016

What's cooking good looking...

Little Live Pets Clever Keet Bird Why choose this toy? It was purely by chance we decided to pick this toy up. My little girl had asked for a puppy for her birthday, but with two dogs already and five children, as you might expect we are already a very busy household. We decided against a real life puppy and agreed on a toy one for her to practice looking after . On one last dash around Tesco we discovered this Live pets clever Keet bird, and despite knowing anything about it added it to the trolley. We paid £20 for this which seems to be the current price at the moment everywhere, but around Christmas this little guy was selling for around £60 which is a lot of money for one toy. Having a closer look we were impressed it comes in a large box and includes everything you need. Instructions, an adoption certificate, Keet the bird, a play centre for him and also a toy cart. In and out of the box the play set is a good size and has everything you need to take care of your new bird. This is an interactive bird and to use you simply push a small sensor button on the front. It is all made from durable plastic and put together well so there is no building needed, and all you have to do is move the bird from perch to perch. There are also batteries included so it is good to go as soon as you get it out of the box. The bird has a slightly textured feel almost like feathers but not as soft. It looks pretty and moves in a number of different ways and includes lots and lots of random sayings to keep things interesting. ...

Avon Mega Effects Liquid Eyeliner 19/08/2015

Mega eyeliner

Avon Mega Effects Liquid Eyeliner The eyeliner I love having eye liner on the top of my eyes but hate how messy it looks when I apply it, so when I came across this pen in the Avon catalogue I decided to give it a go. I am terrible at applying eye liner on the top of my eyes as I can never keep my hand still and it always ends up looking a mess even if I draw the line little by little rather than one clean stroke. I love the felt tip like application brushes as they are so easy to use and even I can get a lovely straight line. This jumped out at me and as I wanted to try another lip gloss they both fell under the two for £8 section I decided they were worth a go. I was very impressed when I received my bits and out of all of all the items this eyeliner is the one I was excited to try. The eye liner looks exactly like a felt tip pen. It is a nice size in width so it is easy to hold and the lid keeps the pen safe stopping it from dying out easily. My thoughts The thing that pulled me to this eyeliner is the face the tip is slanted so you can create big or small lines in a flash. Depending in how you hold the pen you can create a really thin line with the edge of the slant, and it is the perfect size to run across the top lash line. This gives a more natural look and the application size is perfect. The pointed shape is comfortable to use and with a few strokes I can cover the whole lash line and create a little flick at the end. If you put the application tip straight it offers a wider side of the ...

Silver Cross So Pretty Baby Care Set 10/07/2015

Taking care of her baby sister

Silver Cross So Pretty Baby Care Set The set For my little girls birthday I knew just what to get her. She keeps asking for a baby sister so we decided on a doll and all the accessories to keep her occupied. Searching the internet it became apparent that a lot of doll sets come with items that convert into more than one piece of the set. We didn’t want this and I was really looking for something that came with all the separate pieces as one item only so they could be used at the same time. Searching Argos I can across this Silver Cross So pretty set and it was just what I was looking for. It’s worth noting there is no pushchair or doll with this set. It does include a cot for the baby, a bouncer, a high chair and a changing bag. There is also bedding for the cot and it all comes in a lovely blue and white colour. All of the pieces have one purpose rather than converting into other pieces and while the finish is simple it was fantastic value for the price we paid. Most of the items come in one main piece but you do have to build to cot up with poles and then click on the decorations. In all it took no longer than five minutes to have every piece out and assembled which is always a plus with small children. Our thoughts My daughter loves this set. It fits a standard size doll and even the large ones like Baby Annabelle and Nenuco fit inside all of the pieces. My little girl enjoys feeding her baby in the high seat, moving her across for a rock in the bouncing chair and then gently puts her to sleep in the ...

Fisher-Price Shake and Go Speedway Set 07/07/2015

Shake and go fun

Fisher-Price Shake and Go Speedway Set The set For my sons second birthday we decided to purchase him this Fisher Price Shake and go speedway set. We have had the Disney cars version before for my eldest son and he loved it so this was something I was keen to get. The idea is very simple. This is a race track with two motorised cars that detect motion and speed off once they have been shaken. The track is full of twists and turns with two lanes for the cars to go speeding round. Who will win the race and can you hit the switches in time to take the shortcuts? You receive the full track and two cars to use but you do need batteries for the cars to work, so it is a fully independent toy. You need to assemble the track when you first open the box and while it is fairly simple there are lots of different pieces that can be quite fiddly. It is something that’s stays built once done although it is not the sturdiest of items. It took a good 20 minutes to get it all in place and once built it looks impressive. The thick plastic track spirals round and has two pathways by flipping a switch half way round the track. There is of course a start and finish line and the cars speed round super quick making it exciting and entertaining. Our Thoughts The greatest thing about this set for us is the cars. They really are very sturdy, well made and can last the rough and tumble of two small children. You do need to add your own AA batteries for them to work, but they have lasted really well and have had a huge amount of use so ...

Jelly Belly Bean Boozled 05/06/2015

Dare to compare

Jelly Belly Bean Boozled The Bean Boozled challenge These little Jelly beans seem to be the next big thing with them popping up all over the place and I know a number of popular YouTube channels have completed the challenge. I had thankfully never heard of them until my children watched a video on YouTube. A family all sat round and explained the game before going on to play. It did look like really good fun and I thought there was no way they could taste as bad as they were making out but I was wrong! Bean boozled is a game you play with simple Jelly beans. You receive different coloured beans and there is a list on the back of the possible flavours. It all seems simple enough until you realise for every one colour there are two flavours one good and one bad. The multi coloured ones can either be tutti-frutti or stinky socks, the brown either chocolate pudding or canned dog food and so on. There are different series of beans with different flavours and ours was series three and the whole idea of game is hope you get a nice jelly bean. Our thoughts We first played on my sons fifth birthday. We purchased the smaller packet that just contains the Jelly beans to pick at random, however there is a version you can buy on Amazon for £10 that includes a spinner to indicate which colour bean you must eat. For £2.49 at our local sweetie shop we found picking randomly from the smaller box was just as good fun so I don’t think there is much need to pay the extra. The great thing about this game is the ...

The Works Easter Egg Hunt Set 17/05/2015

Easter Holiday Fun

The Works Easter Egg Hunt Set The set We try to always have an egg hunt with our children at Easter as it is something they really enjoy and is good fun for all ages. While I was searching for some bits and pieces on The Works I came across their Easter section and ended up spending a little too much on activities and accessories. I thought this Easter egg hunt set would be handy and at £1 it looked quite good. In this set you receive 4 x masks, 4 x baskets, 6 x pointers and 16 x card Easter eggs. I purchased two sets so we had enough masks and baskets and the extra pointers came in handy too. Of course everything is Easter themed and has Happy Easter and a number of spring animals printed all over the pieces. Our Thoughts The masks are different animals so you have a bunny, sheep chick etc and they are bright and colourful. My children wanted to wear them straight away. You do have to thread the elastic through the mask yourself but it only takes two seconds. The eyes are cut well so little one can see and they are a good one size fits all as my children aged 1-7 all had one on comfortably although they didn’t stay on for long. They are a little flimsy and just made of really thin cardboard, so if you pull on the elastic too much the card rips and it falls off. They did last most of the day so were fit for purpose but it is not something that is going to last forever. The baskets are probably the weakest part of the set as they are very thin and fall apart as soon as you touch them. They are also ...

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair & Scalp Treatment 26/04/2015

Just average

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair & Scalp Treatment The treatment I finally gave in and started a subscription of a beauty box where they send you different items each month to try. I am now on my third box with pink parcel and have been fairly impressed with the offerings so far. One of the items in this months box is a trial of this Paul Mitchell Tea Tree scalp and hair treatment. The leaflet provided tells me it reconditions hair and scalp while protecting it and adding moisture. It contains lots of different things such as Soy proteins vitamin E, Shea butter and tea tree oil. . Applying this was a little unusual. Upon opening it up I found that it was very familiar to toothpaste. Not only does it have the peppermint scent to it but it is very thick in consistency almost grainy, and there are even colours running through the white treatment. This made it very odd applying it to my hair but it wasn't unpleasant at all. I found the paste to spread through the tops of my hair easily and onto my scalp. It did tend to concentrate on the roots of my hair and head at the start but there was more than enough to reach down the whole of my shoulder length hair. My hair is thin but there is lots of it, so often I find I need a little more to reach all of it. My thoughts The instructions state to massage into your scalp which I did and leave the treatment on for three to five minutes. I always tend to leave it on slightly longer which I did with this and left it close to ten minutes. When it came to ashing it out I found it ...

Marvel Avengers Lunch Bag & Water Bottle Set 24/04/2015

Lunch with the Avengers

Marvel Avengers Lunch Bag & Water Bottle Set The set While shopping for a lunch box for my son he came across this Marvels Avengers version and loved it instantly. I purchased it from Tesco for £8 for the lunch box itself, and a water bottle too. The bag follows the Marvel Avengers theme and displays pictures of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Iron man printed on the front in colour. Then in the background in a duller newspaper print style it has these pictures printed all over the rest of the bag. It is not an overly loud design and I think it is slightly more grown up from the usual character themed lunch boxes he has had before. It does look slightly faded from the start with the colours duller in areas and white marks as if it has been creased, but again this is part of the design. The bottle provided can sit in a packet at the side of the main compartment of the lunch box. This is just a plain transparent bottle rather than being branded, however my son like that you can see through it as he knows how much juice he has left. There is a handle at the top to carry it around easily and it is all very well made. Our thoughts The great thing about this lunch box is the size of it at H25xW25xD8cm. My son is a growing boy and has a huge appetite at the moment. With this lunch box I can easily fit a sandwich, small container with pasta or similar inside, a juice and some fruit in with plenty of room to spare. If he has anything that needs kept cool for snack there is even space for that. It is very roomy and ...

Emporiumesq Mr Tumble Something Special School Backpack 23/04/2015

A helping hand from Mr Tumble

Emporiumesq Mr Tumble Something Special School Backpack Mr Tumble All of my children love Mr Tumble and we have been watching the Something Special on Cebeebies since my eldest son was young. My youngest daughter especially loves him and with her older sister and brothers at school she wanted a backpack of her own. I came across this Mr tumble backpack reduced to £4 at Asda so purchased two for my youngest children for Christmas. The design is fairly simple but anything with Mr Tumble on the front is a winner for my daughter. It is bright and colourful and grabs little ones attention just as the show does. There is a large picture of Mr Tumble in his costume and with his finger on his nose. At the side in writing it asks how are you Mr Tumble, and finally on the bottom it has Something Special written on it , just in case you were unsure as to what the branding was supposed to be. My children both instantly recognised who it was and they were both excited to start filling their bags. Our thoughts The bag is perfect for matching up with the program and they have made sure the bright colours are attractive enough to catch the eye. The familiar character, stars and red and yellow theme are perfect It is simple enough with one zip that opens and closes the only compartment so it is easy to get into and fasten back up. Both of my children can do this independently and the zip has been patient with small hands just learning how to operate them. The arms are not adjustable but they are a good size so they fit both of my young ...

Freshbaffs Cute Girls Elsa Tutu Dress 14/04/2015

A Casual Elsa Dress

Freshbaffs Cute Girls Elsa Tutu Dress The Dress As you probably realise by now my children are Frozen daft. Frozen mania shows no sign of dying down especially with Frozen Fever having just been released, and Disney confirming there will be a Frozen two. One of the many dresses my daughters have picked up is this one. It is a little different from the others being as this is a normal dress meant for everyday wear. We purchased ours from Amazon for around £8n but looking on eBay they can be as cheap as £3 brand new, so not a bad price at all. While the dress remains the same style there are a number of different coloured variations available with a mixture of characters printed on them. They run in blues, greens, purples and even yellow so you are sure to find a colour that you like. They also have a range of possible characters available from Anna to Olaf. We chose the blue and white version with Elsa on it as it matches the Frozen theme well. Our dress has a white top that details Elsa standing holding her magic hand up. It has a few silver and blue snowflakes surrounded her and it is instantly recognisable as Frozen merchandise. It is simple but it stands out and looks very nice. The skirt to the tutu is ice blue and contrasts against the white top well. Our thoughts While my daughter is two and has no clue about what she is wearing this dress was met with excitement. She started singing Let it go instantly and she wanted to put it on straight away. Since then the popularity of this dress is has ...

Next Mike the Knight Sunsafe Suit 13/04/2015

Extra protection from the sun

Next Mike the Knight Sunsafe Suit The set When the weather is warmer we try to make it down to the beach as much as possible with it only being 10 minutes away. Last year while shopping for swimming costumes I came across the Mike The Knight sun safe suit for £15 and purchased it for my eldest son. It was more a case of this was the only thing in stock in a six to seven year than him being a huge fan although he does know who the character is. We purchased ours from Next but they no longer seem to stock it, so it is available online at Ebay and other online stores. This swimming costume offers extra protection from the sun with spf protection and generous fitting to cover more of your child up. It has a high neck, the sleeves come down to the elbows and the shirts come down to the knees. Even with more material the suit is lightweight even when the suit is wet. It is easy to get on and my son can move around freely as he would if he was wearing a normal shorts and T shirt set. The set is made up from grey and blue colours. The T shirt has a blue panel and the front and back and it also has a picture of the character taking up most of the front. The character looks just as he does in the Cbeebies program and his name is printed underneath just in case you did not know who it was supposed to be. Then on the arms and shorts the grey in bought in to make it look like a knights armour. The colours work well together and the finish of the swimwear is the same high quality I have come to expect from Next ...

The Works Easter Bunny Ears 13/04/2015

Perfect Bunny Ears

The Works Easter Bunny Ears Bunny Ears We love Easter and every year we like to plan activities for the holidays. While I was picking up some supplies from some arts and crafts at the Works I found these bunny ears for just £1 each, so decided to order some for my children. I wasn't expecting much for the price and buying online I didn't know what we were going to get. When they arrived I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I was worried the one size fits all would not accommodate all of my children but they are very well made. The head band is a good size and it is well made so it is strong enough to strength a little to accommodate different sized heads. My daughter at two and my daughter at six both wear there's without any problems and they are comfortable for both. They are slightly large on my two year olds head and she finds them slipping quite often, but they are still suitable for a large age range. Our thoughts The headband and ears are covered in a white furry finish so they are soft to touch. The headband is also very comfy to wear as all of this padding provides a soft cushion to sit on little ones head. They are fun to touch and my children think they are great. The small pink parts of the ears have been made from plastic so it provides two different textures for my younger children to enjoy and explore. The headband is nice and thick so it holds hair back well but it is not overly heavy and it does not pull on my children's head. My youngest daughter especially is not keen on ...

Top Gear - Patagonia Special (DVD) 12/04/2015

A fitting end

Top Gear - Patagonia Special (DVD) The Patagonia Special Out of all of the car related programmes my husband watches Top Gear is one I will happily switch over and snuggle up on the sofa to watch. I'm not a huge fan of Jeremy Clarkson but I find him very watchable when teamed with Richard Hammond and James May. I especially enjoy the specials they produce, and after seeing a lot of fuss about this particular episode in the paper I was even more intrigued to watch. It is split into two parts and both were aired over Christmas on BBC 2. I'm not going to go fully into each event but there may be some spoilers if you have not already watched it. The presenters are told simply to buy three old V8 engined cars to test out and of course they are headed to Argentina. They must drive 135 miles to Butch Cassidys house which all seems simple enough, however there are going to be more challenges along the way. After reaching this point they are told to drive 1600 miles in their cars and to have a game of car football in an area there is still a lot of British resentment. They also have to pass through swamps, down mountain roads, over shaky bridges roads and as always troubling routes that have obviously been planned out to make it as 'interesting' as possible. The cars I'm not going to claim I know a lot about cars as I don't have a clue so this is my opinion from an entertainment side. Jeremy starts by explaining his choice a Porsche 928 . He explains it is the last good looking Porsche made, but soon he goes ...

Monsters University Mike Costume 11/04/2015

Perfect for dressing up as Mike Wazowski

Monsters University Mike Costume The costume My children love dressing up so we always tend to pick up a couple of new ones for their birthdays. We all love the Monsters university and Monsters Inc. films, so when I came across this dress up for £5 I just knew that my son would love it. The costume is modelled on Mike from Monsters university, but the only difference from the original Mike character is the OK hat. This dress up can be purchased from Asda or Amazon in sizes 2 years to eight years. As mentioned before we purchased it on sale but usual retail is around £15. In the set you receive a top, trousers and a baseball cap. The top has the main detailing of the character with his one large eye at the top and the cheeky monster smile sitting underneath that on the belly. The stomach is rounded so it gives the correct shape for the Mike we all now and love and there are two horns on the shoulders to complete Mikes head. The trousers are nice and simple and just green to match the character and then finally you have a blue baseball cape which has OK for the fraternity Mike and Sully were in during the film. Our thoughts As I thought my son was very excited to receive this and wanted to put it on straight away. The top just slides on over the head and then it has Velcro fastening at the back, after that it is just a case of slipping the trousers on. My son can put it on himself although he does need me to fasten it at the back. The cap was never something I expected my son to wear as he does not ...

Partykids Snowman Olaf Fancy Gown Tutu Dress 07/04/2015

Dressing up as Olaf for a change

Partykids Snowman Olaf Fancy Gown Tutu Dress The dress My little girls like dressing up as the sisters from the Disney film Frozen, but anyone that has watched it will agree Olaf steals a lot of the limelight. The lovable snowman that does not realise that summer will melt his body loves warm hugs and my daughters just love Olaf. I was searching for a dress up for them and came across this Olaf tutu for just £10 and knew my daughters would love it. I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of tutu dresses as I find there to be very little material, and while my daughters love them they are just not practical for everyday wear. As mentioned before it is styled to look like Olaf. You have the top half of the tutu which details Olafs face with a sown on Olaf badge which is attached to a netted top. The skirt is nice and full like any tutu should be and sits well puffing out giving it the wow effect. There are three black pieces sown into the skirt of the dress for the buttons on Olafs body and it all ties in nicely. It is a very simple design but with the Olaf badge there is no way not to know what character you are trying to portray. The arms can be adjusted to fit little one and then tying the ribbon in a bow at the back holds it all in place. There dress sits nice and high on the neck and has a longer skirt than usual tutus so I feel they are more comfortable than other tutus that we have owned. Our thoughts My daughters both love this dress and wear it often. It is something different to the usual Anna and Elsa dress ...
