Advantages Advantages Rewarding and wonderful experience

Disadvantages Disadvantages Tiring, time consuming, costly and also finding good homes for them

One of my dogs had her second litter 8 weeks ago and as I come to the end of the process and they start to go to their new homes it marks the end of a very rewarding but tiring process and I will share my views on this. Please be aware that I have previosuly written this review elsewhere as I found out my dog was pregnant but, she has already had a litter before and my other dog has also had 1 litter so I thought I would share my personal experience in this area and hope that it does help anyone who is thinking of doing this. So having had three litters in the home I thought I would share some ... more

Advantages Advantages Joy of dog ownership.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some people just aren't fit to have a dog.

Being a Responsible Dog Owner.... There's numerous things to consider when you own a furry friend, first one being to ensure you are ready to own a dog and understand the work, time and effort that dog ownership brings. This is many peoples first mistake, especially idiots who get a dog, normally a staffy or other 'status symbol' dog or a cute fluffy puppy and haven't a clue or a care how to care for it....some muppets aren't fit to own a goldfish never mind a dog. From the dogs perspective you are the provider of food, water plus love, entertainment and most important of all leadership. Your ... more

Advantages Advantages Better breeders breed blander barkers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bitter breeders breed badder biters.

. FOREWORD: I must say I was quite taken aback when I discovered that Ciao had relegated such a crucially-important, socially-relevant topic: "Member's Advice on Being a Responsible Dog Owner," to the consumer-visitor-untrammelled dust of the Ciao Cafe morgue. When I consider the tragic plight of the perhaps millions of souls, worldwide, who live in perpetual fear of their improperly-raised/handled canine house-pets turned Hitler-pooches, I truly regret that the only people who will ever be able to benefit from the sublime canine-control wisdom that follows hereunder, are my fellow dog-owning ... more

Advantages Advantages One very happy friend

    Disadvantages Disadvantages One unhappy dog

We have always had a pet in the house, and even before I was married, dogs and cats have played a big part in my life and always will. They become a very close part of the family life. My first dog was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and he and I were very seldom apart, he even come to meet me from school and sat beside me on the bus home. Ginger was his name. One day he did not come to meet me from school, so when I went home there he was just lying there, someone drunk had run him down. It took me Weeks to get over him. But dad being dad said okay lets go get a puppy. Off we went to see this ... more

Advantages Advantages Love & affection from a gentle giant

Disadvantages Disadvantages No room on our bed when Nellie is on it!

Well, just over a year ago, last March, Shaun and I contacted Mastiff Rescue to try to adopt an English Mastiff. We were able to adopt Nellie, a 5 year old 15 stone female, who is now so much a part of our lives we just couldn't imagine life without her. The mastiff is very much a misunderstood breed, so I'm hoping that when you read more about them, you'll fall in love with them just like we did and won't panic next time you see a giant dog on the beach! The first mistake a lot of people make is to confuse mastiffs and bull mastiffs. The english mastiff is a long-standing breed dating back ... more
