Memorex DVD+R DL 8.5 GB 2.4x

All that space and nothing to do with it!

Advantages: Twice as much space
Disadvantages: Five times as expensive (doesn't add up) and reaaaallly slow

As the title suggests these discs are not going to break any records at 2.4x. This is because of the precision and focusing needed to read the discs. Verbatim also markets an 8x version (very expensive) and there are 16x versions available (very, very expensive) but this would be the main flaw. If they were a lot faster it may be worth shelling out to upgrade your DVD player and paying five times as much for the discs but as it is ? Physical Storage The display item is a ten pack spindle so you may want to invest in some individual boxes, and treat em nice; rewritables damage easily. Conclusion They're a undoubtedly a step forward but at the moment having nearly twice as much space just doesn't make up for the extra expense and slothful lack of speed. Verbatim are no longer word-perfect

Advantages: Great reputatioon, large storage capacity
Disadvantages: Half of them didn't work

I have been buying this brand for ages, and was always a big fan. They are more expensive than some other brands, like memorex, but I thought they were worth the extra. They were reliable, burned well (no coasters as people say) and you could always tell by looking at them that they were good. This is the first time I've bought this particular type - with two recording layers they are supposed to offer you almost double the capacity on a single side, so you can get almost 4 hours of DVD -enough for even the most enthusiastic home movie maker! Well that's true, and the one's I got to work, worked fine, but lots didn't work. One you could see when I took it out of the box it was all bubbled on the surface, so I didn't even try to burn that one. And of the pack of 10 I bought, 3 so far have not worked out of 7 I've used, not ...

DVD+R Good

Advantages: Very reliable, come in a ase
Disadvantages: Not very cheap, slow burn speed, not printale

of purchase, writable DVDs were still quite expensive so a box of five including cases was pretty good value. Once I got the disks home and began using them with a vengeance, I was really pleased with the results; 5 out of 5 disks burnt correctly without any trace of fault. Best of all, the disks that I created also worked perfectly in my Yamada DVD player. How pleased was I! In fact, I was so pleased that I went back to WH Smith and bought another three boxes of the DVD+Rs and another two of DVD-Rs. The only cons to the Memorex media are: 1) The prices of disks have not kept pace with other well-known brands; at £1.25 a piece, they are now one of the most expensive brands I can remember seeing. 2) The disks are not printable - a bit of a pain as I have just shelled out £250 for a printer with disk printing capabilites. 3) The jewel ...
