The installation on a Windows 98 PC is simple, the card comes with a CD with the appropriate drivers, and has bundled Piccolo thumbnail software for viewing and sending files to Jessops over the internet for printing, though I've not tried that service yet.
The USB Card reader is powered via the USB port, and comes with an extension cable which makes it easy to connect to a desktop PC. Once installed and with a Smartmedia card inserted, it appears as a new removable drive. Piccolo will automatically catalogue all your pictures on your PC, and a thumbnail viewer will launch. I close them down and just use Windows Explorer to move the files to my Hard Drive, the transfer speed is very quick, less than a couple of minutes for a full 32Mb card.
Because you're reading the card outside of the camera, the camera battery life is much better. I now get over 200 shots per charge of my NiMH AA batteries. You can also write pictures onto the smartmedia card as well as read them and you can delete the pictures on the card when you've uploaded.
Advantages: Fast, effecient and easy to use Disadvantages: none
Having owned a digital camera for 6 months I got heartily sick and tired of waiting for images to download through the serial port of my computer. I therefore decided to invest in a smart card reader from Jenoptik. I bought one direct from the web and paid £27 for a USB reader. It was one of the best investments I have made. Being USB it requires no power source and sits nicely on top of my monitor. The downloads speeds are almost instantaneous and ...

You can buy USB or Parallel connecting raeders and for most opperating systems. They show up on your computer as a new drive letter and the one i have is a Card Port Swift Syncro and is great. It has 2 slots one for PCMCIA and one for Smart Media. Comapact Flash is read in the PCMCIA slot with han ...

Advantages: Well Made, Simple to Use, Durable, Reliable Disadvantages: None that i have found yet
As a professional photographer i need to be able to transfer my images quickly, securely and reliably. Some of the images i work with can be extremly large so I cannot afford for errors in transfer or to lose images. The ImageMate is fantastis value for money firstly, coming with its own software and a handy little stand, it is tough and well made. Being 12 In 1 it will read nearly every card format avaliable and then some.
The provided software is a handy addition, it is easy to use and self starts on the insertion of a media card. Alternatively you can just use windows explorer to drag and drop files to and from the media cards.
The setup process is as simple as it could be, just plug in the USB be lead and follow the simple set up instructions to install the small sized software package.
The stand holds the reader ...
Advantages: The Memory card reader, The available USB's Disadvantages: The Laptop material, Power lead
This Dell is very easy to use it is a nice product that looks superb. The Memorycardreader is a brilliant extra feature but is the only one worth mentoning. There is no intergrated web cam. The laptop is very fast but has a relativley small memory capacity. This is not usefull when you use the Memorycardreader to upload photos like me. There are three USBs. Another problem i Have found with this laptop is theat it has a very short power lead. Finally the laptop can cause the palms to become very sweaty. To summarise i find this laptop functionally very good but the feel, extras and the power lead could do with some allterations. There are a few use of extras. It is very easy to use and is very robust. Overall a I think it is very good value for money ...
Advantages: Very compact and lightweight, excellent value for money, great design with brilliant screen Disadvantages: No dvd drive but this is to save on weight and you can pick up an external one for reasonable
fantastically well designed, quiet running, has a bright and vibrant screen which means that despite the smaller screen size you should not be suffering eye strain. The netbook does take some time to setup and you will need to do a few restarts but once you have done all of this the system is very impressive in its load time and also in the time taken to shut down. With its 3 usb ports it is very easy to add extras onto the netbook like your printer, a cd/dvd drive and a memorycardreader it allows for a great deal of functionality and with a good size 160gb hard drive a memorycardreader is something good for many to get as this allows you to quickly add your photos to you hard drive and get a look at these anywhere you go and at any time. The main reason for many users to like this is that it operates on Windows XP which is more popular with many ...
