Men and Women and Other Poems - Robert Browning

Sadly poetry is very much an art which has not been embraced by the 21st Century. Browning is most definately one of England's greatest poets. I do admit that I have had to study him for English literature, else I would not own this book, but it definately has some of the best poetry from the 19th century. Known as one the romantics, the theme of love, both unconditional and unrequited, obsessive and detatched, can be seen in his poetry throughout the book. Browning is known as one of the best Romanitic poets and this colume contains some of his best work. The selection of poems is very well done, moveing from dreampt love in 'Love Among the Ruins' where a shepered dreams about love and power as he wonders over a baren field. It moves to other kinds of love and Browning sucsessfully describes Love from hundrends of view points, a prostutute visiting monk, lot's of men looking for love, love before and after sex, and a obsessive love which ends in murder of the nicest kind in Porphria's Love (or is it My Last Duchess - read them both:-) All round ... more

I find this collection of poems to be a treat for any person's mind. These poems take its reader back in time way back to the 17th century. For a lover of clasical literature, Browing's poems bring true delight to one's heart. In short, this is indeed a precious collection to posses and I cherished every moment of time I spent reading these wonderful set of poems.
