Mercedes E 220 CDI
Advantages: comfortable, economical Disadvantages: questionable electronics, technical design
...in Europe where attitudes to Mercedes products are less reverential and have had a manual transmission E220 CDi since Oct.2003 (which I'd like to sell). This model with 150 bhp/340nm. has effectively been superceded since July 2006 by a revised model with 170bhp and approx 400nm. and which among some 2000 changes has done away with the brake by wire system and probably other curiosities as well.
Any German-speaking reader should look at ownership ... ...to/ can't go there) the Mercedes importer got them back again after 2 attempts. After 67000km/42000 miles there seems to be a rattle in the driver^s door and a vehicle inspection service said that the front shock absorbers are coming to the end of their life. With the benefit of hindsight, I'd have waited till they got it right with the 2006 model and to anyone considering buying one secondhand, I'd say avoid the electronic toys. ...

Advantages: powerful dream team cruiser Disadvantages: servicing costs
Now the 2nd love of my life...
Trust me you will not find a better car for the money. I have a stressful home to business trip each morning and evening and I can honestly say that getting stuck in traffic does not bother me..I sit in my archair, listen to my favourite CD and the outside world does no exsist..that's how good this car is.
The engineering and ergonomics are superb and the the build quality is excellent. This barge (as my wife calls ... ...UK in a little over 7 seconds and return you around 30-40 MPG dependent on your driving style. Insurance & Road Tax are both acceptable for such a powerful car.
However this is a high speed cruiser and is not the most agile of motors and you have to come to terms with it's a round holding capabilities although ESP will keep you on the straight and narrow.
The only big downside for me is the expensive MB servicing, I appreciate that it's a high ...

E270 cdi Avantgarde Estate
Advantages: Size, Comfort, Economy, Safety Disadvantages: Size, Tyre life, Fuel consumption
I bought this car as a nearly-new (5 months old) vehicle from a wholly owned DaimlerChrysler UK dealership. It was listed as a 'Guaranteed Used M-B' but was a grey import which DC UK refused to acknowledge with anything other than a basic factory 2 year warranty. After a long dispute the dealer paid me a fair amount of cash in recompense for falsely describing the car. Why didn't DC UK just change the flag in their computer system to show it as a ... ...warranty as described in DC UK's website - where there is no mention of grey imports sold by the factory's UK network ......! After all the initial angst, the car has been great. 27,000 miles up in just over two years and my local (non supplying) agent has been first rate at service and non-warranty claims. The car is very comfortable and an excellent motorway cruiser which is OK in town, but its size can be a problem in tight urban driving. Tyre ...

Mercedes E-350 is the Ultimate in Class and Performance"
Advantages: Safety, aesthetically pleasing, performance, luxurious ammenties inside and out, comfort Disadvantages: Pricey repairs, gas mileage
The Mercedes E-350 is a sleek, classy and extremely comfortable automobile. It handles extremely well when braking, making tight turns and accelerating. My wife was recently in a very serious wreck that should have paralyzed or killed her. She was in our previous Mercedes E-350 and although she sustained injuries and had to be cut out of her car by the "Jaws of LIfe", we felt very lucky. The car did exactly what it was supposed to do mechanically ... ...experience of the safety of Mercedes cars in general, we will remain loyal to Mercedes for life. We initially bought our E-350 because of its' handling and body style. Mercedes does an amazing job of adding in all of the interior ammenities that many high end cars do not offer. Our car has an automatic rear sunshade (we use it quite often), seat heaters, dual zone A/C and heat (so my wife and i don't have to fight over the controls), and a state ...

Mercedes E200 Kompressor
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Timing Chain Slips at arounf 70,000 miles
...I was in touch wih Mercedes and they acknowledged it was a problem. Unfortunately it was out of warrenty. You get no warning despite a diagnostic computer system installed in the car. I would definitely not recommend this car. I have also been told by people in the car industry that it has happened to thousands of these models. Mercedes are not helpful and will fight you all the way to the court steps, which is very costly, before admiting liability. ...
