Advantages: Luxurious, quiet, powerful, refined, beautiful Disadvantages: More expensive than an S class
...The Merc CL class is basically a coupe version of the S class. It costs a similar amount (despite being smaller and having 2 less doors) and features a similar amount of gadgets and luxuries.
The car I will be reviewing is a brand new CL 600 with most options ticked, and cost just over £113,000 when it was bought new a few months ago. It's finished in 'flint grey metallic', and looks very imposing.
For a start, lets get down to the engine. It's a 5.5l (despite the 600 name) naturally aspirated V12 producing some 517 hp, which is plenty for most people. This isn't like one of the AMG units though, and when you put your foot down instead of hearing an ear-bursting snarl, all you get is a slight growl as the V12 really gets to work. Milage is now around 21000. 1 fault so far - this was a leak from the rear washer tube which was not clipped to the nozzle properly. I fixed this myself. Recently some of the washer jets became clogged, but I sorted this with a jetwash. I am having two new front tyres fitted by the Mercedes dealer next week. They quoted £94/tyre including VAT....

~ ~ Straight off, it has to be said that in my opinion, Mercedes set the standard that other manufacturers in the luxury car bracket must try to emulate and follow.
The new S600L competes directly against the other German flagship from Bavaria, the BMW 750iL, and also against the Audi A8 4.2 quattro.
Mercedes claim is that it is no less than the “world’s finest executive saloon”.
~ ~ So is this claim true or an exaggeration?
The simple truth is that it probably is the best...
