Advantages: High luxury with 5 star safety Disadvantages: Car taxing penalty
I have a Mercedes ML 270 cdi and I cant praise it enough. I have had a Range Rover and a Freelander in the past and deffinately will never change from Mercedes now. It is fabulous to drive, comfortable and even with only a 270 engine as opposed to the more powerful ones it pulls my horses fine. It gives the luxury of an upper class car but the security of a 4x4 with the reliability of German manufactoring. We have found a brilliant mercedes trained garage to service it and can honestly say that the running costs are half what it cost us when we owned the Land Rovers. It is Mercedes every time for us now! The 5 speed auto gearbox is not only very smooth when it changes but is a superb match for the diesel engine. ...
the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 1.8 tdi cant offer!
The internal styling of the C-class is unfortunately not as exceptional as its fuel economy. The boring fake wood and neverending dark leather and plastic does not harmonise with the beautifully curved exterior body, and many friends have commented on how dissapointinly unluxurious the interior is. Unfortunately spare mercedes parts are not cheap and the expertise ...

Mercedes c180 '94 petrol manual, 150k on the clock (owned for 4 months)
Mercs are class apart! Very good for its age. A very reliable engine! I did around 1000 miles in one trip in less than 15 hours and the engine showed no sign of fatigue. The maximum it can go is 110 miles/hour.
Not very fast for a dash between signals. Its rear wheel drive, if you accelerate a bit too much on a roundabout or turn on a rainy day, you'd seem like Jeremy on Top Gear. No Air conditioner, which means you sweat like a pig in summer!
around 24 miles to a gallon in city and around 30 on motorway.
I can't think of any problem I had with the car apart from a routine Tracking (wheel alignment and balancing). I never had to spend a pence on repair.
Overall a very good and reliable car to own. Not as expensive or difficult to maintain as ...
