Mercedes E 200

The new E200 (W211 model) is superb value for money. Starting at £26,000 it is in a far higher class than most cars for the same money. I was sceptical about purchasing one because the performance figures suggest it is a bit of a slouch but in reality, coupled with the manual 6 speed gearbox, ... Read review

Under Powered? Under Rated!

Advantages: Performance, Comfort, Price
Disadvantages: Rear Parking - you need park sensors!

The new E200 (W211 model) is superb value for money. Starting at £26,000 it is in a far higher class than most cars for the same money. I was sceptical about purchasing one because the performance figures suggest it is a bit of a slouch but in reality, coupled with the manual 6 speed gearbox, performance is lively and more than you might expect. Handling is also superb, particularly with the optional £300 sports suspension which often makes you think ... more

...I was in touch wih Mercedes and they acknowledged it was a problem. Unfortunately it was out of warrenty. You get no warning despite a diagnostic computer system installed in the car. I would definitely not recommend this car. I have also been told by people in the car industry that it has happened to thousands of these models. Mercedes are not helpful and will fight you all the way to the court steps, which is very costly, before admiting liability. ...

E200 1996 onwards (W210)

Advantages: Value for money/comfort/economy
Disadvantages: Front wings prone to rust/immobiliser problems on early models

The e200. My car was bought for 800 quid and is a dream to drive. It is an E200 classic 2 litre auto. It has 125,000 miles on the clock and the driving experience is an absolute pleasure. It is a most comfortable car and the 2 litre engine is not at all overstressed giving excellent performance alongside frugal economy. Being the classic it is the basic model but has very good spec such as 6 speaker stereo system, cruise control and electric front ...
...has gone into the design of the E200 making this an excellent second hand choice. Things to watch out for is the front wings are prone to holding water causiing corrosion and on early models the immobiliser has reliability problems. That said, it is still a great car representing great value for money. ...

Mercedes E200 almost hits the mark!

Advantages: Stylish, comfortable
Disadvantages: After sales service, underpowered

Great car which is comfy and good to drive. Ample room in front and rear as well as good boot space. Ride is controlled and fuel economy good, averaging 32MPG. Instrumentation is clear and steering wheel controls easy to use. Nice sound system. Wheel change system handily located and easy to use. Replacement parts are reasonably priced. E200 is underpowered and picks up slowly with full cabin. Air conditioning function is very basic. Problems with ...

Powerful

Advantages: Nice and quite
Disadvantages: Not good design

have installed two rear sensors to inform me when parking. General Comments: The Alfa Romeo 156 1.8 TS Lusso is definitely a superb limousine. Its exterior and interior design, the seats when equipped with leather ny Momo, look much more sporty and impressive than a Mercedes 200 Kompressor E. I have purchased the car in 2001. Since then I have done just 15.000 Kms (I am still using for short drives my 25 years old Giulietta). Sometimes I have some difficulty in sliding in the 5th gear. Up to now I did not have any mechanical or other problems. For that kind of money I would consider it as a very good buy!! ...

Review of Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 Twin Spark

Is this a good, practical family car?

Advantages: Easy drive, decent performer, decent economy
Disadvantages: Heavy at front due to cast iron block, heavy steering up to about 30mph

's not a problem but shouldn't happen. Comparing this to my E200 Mercedes which is a much heavier car, the Merc actually has lighter steering at lower speeds. I'm not convinced that the tail gate (call it hatch or rear door if you want) opens adequately. Park it on my drive and it is far too close to my head at the top. Park it on the level road and it seems that it should open a bit more. Brakes seem to grind even when new. They work fine just seem to always grind without actually grinding metal. The horn is likely to fail at some point. Ford aren't the only ones with this horn problem cause possibly by where the horn is fitted. Water can easily flood the horn and cause problems. Fitting it in the engine bay would have been better but then there isn't a lot of room. Seats are a little uncomfortable. Only the Germans seem to know ...

the service intervals but don't miss replacing the vital parts. If you don't want to get your hands dirty, don't go to a Mercedes dealer for your sevice. Track down a non-franchised garage that specialises in Mercedes or German cars. Ask Mercedes taxi drivers where they take theirs to! PARTS You can get your parts much cheaper from places such as Euro Car Parts. Spark plugs can be bought for 85p! Air filter for about £2.50! If you're worried about original parts, these places often do exactly the same original Mercedes parts to but at a price much lower than your Mercedes dealership. If you find a post-1990 example one with about 100,000 miles with Full MBSH. Get it checked over by a professioal and if well looked-after, you should get another 200,000 miles out of it. If you can find a Mercedes 200E. It's only about £100 more but ...
