Mercedes E 320 CDI

I once worked at Mercedes as a Business Manager and had a company car which was changed every few months. I think I have driven the entire range available in the 2002-2006 era and there is one model that stood out to me. Why the E320 CDI Elegance 4dr Saloon I hear you ask, or not as the case may be? I have had 4 now, 2 Elegance and 2 Avantgarde and each one I have had for over 10,000 miles and 3-4 months, so I guess that qualifies me in a small way to write about this beauty and the beast automobile. Although the Mercedes Benz E Class 320 CDi Estate lacks go off the line it does make up for it. Super stylish interior and exterior make the car all the more inviting whilst its long haul abilities make it a favorite among families. The Estate has been described many times as heavy on the pocket for a family car but if you've got the money, go for it. Now the 2nd love of my life... Trust me you will not find a better car for the money. I have a stressful home to business trip each morning and evening and I can honestly say that getting stuck in traffic does not bother me..I sit in my archair, listen to my favourite CD and the outside world does no exsist..that's how good this car is. The engineering and ergonomics are superb and the the build quality is excellent. I've owned 2 E320's now (saloons) and they are superbly comfortable cars. regularly get 42 mpg from the big 3 litre V-6 diesel engine. The build quality is great and it's very hard to fault. One slight annoyance is a hesitancy at low revs when pulling away, but once you're up to speed it's quiet and powerful, and the turbo kick down if you accellerate from say 50 to 70mph is brilliant, overtaking is a dream. My latest one has dropped in value quicker than I thought. I bought it new in December 2005 for £38,000 and 18 months later I've been quoted only £22,000 by my Merc garage to part ex it ... more
