How the other half..........................drive

Advantages: Badge, safety features, equipment, comfort, refined
Disadvantages: Cost of ownership, cost of extras

My experience of the new Mercedes 320 S class came quite recently, a 60 mile drive in one & a 60 mile return trip as a passenger, if you want to find out how the ‘other half’ live & drive, read ...
...the world the S class Mercedes is the company’s flag ship model that costs between £55.595 for the ‘basic’ model & £148.290 for the top of the range one. For that sum of money you get a choice of petrol or diesel models with various levels of luxuries although I do find it hard to believe there is a £92.695 price difference between the basic & top of the range models. However, lets get too over excited here, even as lottery winners you want value ... more

The best S-Class

Advantages: Styling, equipment, seats, space
Disadvantages: no CD player as standard

The S320 is the best S-Class model. It's got a decent sized engine and it's not too expensive at £50,000. It is also well equipped. The 3.2 litre V6 can almost do 150mph (whereas the very expensive £88,000 S600 model is limited to 155mph). The S320 will do 0-60 in 8.2 seconds, which is good for a car weighing almost two tonnes. Fuel consumption is O.K. too. As in all Mercedes, the build quality is excellent, it's refined and the seating is comfortable ...

Is there anything this car can't do?

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Cannot be said in the same sentence

Want to know what the best car in the world looks like? Head done to your local Mercedes-Benz showroom and look for the the car that takes up most of the forecourt. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been dubbed and anounced the bestt car in the world by most of the Motoring Press, not just in the united kingdom but all around the world. Amongst its fans is Quentin Wilson, from the BBC motoring magazine program 'Top Gear'. From its sleek lines to its ...
...of its own. Its got gizmos bursting out of its gorgeous shell, from AIRmatic and Brake Assist to ESP andParktronic. Not only are there rain sensors which switch on the wipers but they it varies the speed depending on how much it is raining. This car really is amazing. It looks like a limosine, yet it handles like a sports car, well its pretty damn close. But its not until you see one in the... metal, that you really are astounded by its beauty. ...

King of the road

Advantages: Big, spacious, dominant, beast of a vehicle yet elegent.
Disadvantages: A little large, but that's what some people will buy it for!

We bought ours in 1996/7 for au$200,000+ (around 80,000+ Uk Pounds in today's exchange rate) and it has been a terrific vehicle, a masterpiece of engineering and class. It is like the Kind of the road, large, powerful and luxurious. It is a heavy car but has an enigine with enough power to throw it around. We've avoided one or two crashes simply due to it's manuvrability at speed, not something you'd expect from such a chunky vehicle. The interior ...
...of years old, it is certainly not out of date and beats the interior facilities of most of the present new cars hands down. It is extrememly spacious with big seats and the boot is big enough to hold a years worth of shopping. This is a powerful vehicle but if you're hoping not to stand out, this is not the vehicle for you. It's certainly not a show toy but it's not discreet either. Now, second hand S-320s won't set you back too much as when we first ...

Mercedes S320, series 300SEL W140 1993

Advantages: Very high build quality, silent running, prestige, badge, lush, solid, fast, sumptuous.
Disadvantages: Difficult to park, dealer will empty your bank balence, large car - small....... !

Mercedes 300SEL , S320 Limo 1993. How I acquired the vehicle? In my course of work (Mobile vehicle mechanic) I meet a lot of people in the trade. Because of this, I get the nod when any quality vehicles turn up in the scrapper (for what ever reason they were scrapped).... many times this is down to un-economic repair costs. Which are for this beast, astronomical? ...well if you are prey to main dealer prices and practices, cars like this will never be owned by the 'less well offs' and I include myself in that statement. It's better to be lucky than rich sometimes. For me, it's a case of; sod the usual car buying outlets and get your self down the scrapper. Lucky for me then! On first inspection of this car in the breakers yard, I was shocked by its size; it was huge, damaged, covered in dust + thick mud caked the wheel ...

Sumptuous Luxury, Cheaper Than You Think

Advantages: Highly respected, classy cruiser, well equipped
Disadvantages: Image is wrong unless you're old and fat

at today?s Mercedes S- Class... And they?re right. What could only be found on an S-Class twenty years ago is bog standard on a Ford Fiesta today, and what was standard on the Merc ten years ago is either standard or an optional tick in the box on your new-car order form today. So yes, the Rolls Royce might be the daddy of all things automotive, but the S-Class rules the road. You might see the Queen swanning around in a Roller, or Jim Davidson, or even maybe David Beckham, but you see the country?s dignitaries, the big decision makers, the euro-politicans, the company directors, all moving from A to B in a top-spec Mercedes. But we?re talking here about a car that costs upwards of £50?000, depending on specification. The entry-level S-Costs £54?327 just to get on the road and, if you took the best-selling S320 diesel model and added ...

Review of Mercedes S 320 CDI

Five years with an S class

Advantages: good economy , superb build quality ,reliability
Disadvantages: lot of optional extras inflate price

I bought my S320CDi new and collected it from the factory which was a great experience and costs you nothing as it is covered by the UK delivery charge. The car has been better than my highest expectations for example on delivery it gave me a pleasant surprise as it comes with double glazing as standard , a fact not even mentioned in the brochures. It is extremely economical , very comfortable and the build quality superb. After 125000 miles it drives and looks lika a new car. Service costs are not excessive and for me have only come round every 18K miles. If you are considering a top quality executive saloon treat yourself. My one complaint is that there are a long list of optional accessories which can inflate the price. ...
