What things have gone wrong with the car? Brake pads wear quite quickly. This is understandable for a car approaching 2 tons in weight.
Passenger electric seat motor failed. This was fixed relatively easily by the dealers.
Nothing else really. General comments? I purchased this car after selling my Mazda Xedos 9, which was a good car, however, wasn't capacious enough for me or quick enough.
I purchased this Mercedes S-Class for 13000 pounds Sterling, which was a bargain in my opinion for a car which cost upwards for £75000 pounds in it's day.
The W140 is one of the best built Mercedes-Benz cars of recent days; due to it being the last "over-engineered" Mercedes car and hence it is extremely reliable. In the cold UK winter mornings it never failed to start.
It is one of the best looking cars to adorn the famous silver star. Even though it is too slab sided for some peoples liking it is still a very good looking car. Mine is black and so looks quite intimidating when parked in the street or on my driveway.
The interior is quite simply superb. It didn't go the way of the W220 S-Class for having about 1000 buttons festooned everywhere about the interior. It is simple, yet extravagent. The grey nappa leather seats are extremely comfortable; how I wish I had one in my living-room. Interior space is vast, the back having acres of leg-room. Air-conditioning is half-decent, even in the back blowers. The walnut trim looks elegant, even on the steering wheel. One of the few compaints about the interior is the hi-fi, as it is not the most powerful and it doesn't have incredible sound quality, unlike the Mark-Levinson system deployed in the Lexus LS400.
Performance is good for a car of it's size and weight. The 320bhp of the 5 liter engine gives a 0-60 time of 7.3 seconds and this is respectable. The fuel consumption is quite high, 21.2mpg is average for a trip.
The dealers are quite helpful, even though they do charge extortionate prices.
All in all, this the pinnacle of luxury motoring. Unfortunately, the quality is fully replicated in the new S-Class.

Advantages: A car to judge all others... Disadvantages: 25mpg (though the benifits do out way this)
I purchased this magnificent car about 4 months ago. You hear the likes of Jeremy Clarkson say...
"if you want to know whats going to be fitted in cars in the next 10 years, well look in an S class."
I actually have the S500 Limo Petrol model, that 5.0 litre V8 engine is more than enough to get this sizable car accellarating in an instant. This car brings new meaning the the words "spacious" and "luxurious". All seats are electricly movable (even ... ...which is very very nice on those hot days. Enless other gadgets such as electric blinds, fridge, TV/DVD, car phone, voice recognition, distronic and triptronics make this car the ultimate vehicle which all others are judged by.
Concidering buying one ? Take me word for it, it will be the best purchase you have ever made in your life. When your crusing along you know people are looking at you and wondering "what does he do for a living..."

Advantages: Fast, quiet, superb balance, outstanding technical design Disadvantages: None I can think of
...a Ford Scorpio. For a Mercedes rather ordinary and understated, perhaps deliberately so. Behind the wheel without doubt it is the finest car I have ever driven, exceeding expectations in every way. Superbly balanced, exceptionally quiet, incredibly fast, an outstanding design way above any other car in the Mercedes range. If you worry about the somewhat large sum of money it costs - dont! You'll never regret your puchase. Its been called the best ...

Advantages: Pure luxury Disadvantages: Quite Expensive
The Mercedes S500 limo is the nicest car around. It is a mix between a rolls royce and a stretch limo. It is one of the most spacious, non-peoplecarrier, cars in Britain and I recommend this car to anyone who likes big fast cars and has £50000+ to spend. Expensive I know, but at only £35000 second hand, you should have no probs. It has a vast array of extra features too, like most other Mercs, and it makes your other car look like a Skoda. The features ...

...its nice to know that Mercedes hasn’t made any compromises on the safety front in the drive to make a better car and that’s heartening when you know the distronic will keep you away from the car ahead. A fine car that deserves the title ‘best car in the world’ ...

...just £1000 Third Party, Fire and Theft with one years no claims discount which is only £100 more than my Megane cost me to insure.
Overall, this is an excellent car for the money, plus you get the kudos of owning a Mercedes-Benz, which at 20 years old, lots of my friends find unbelievable! I have seen 190E’s on sale on E-bay for £500 with a little work needed. You really cannot go wrong for that kind of money.
This is my first review on a car and I found it strangely difficult to write....would really appreciate any comments on how to improve it!
Thanks for reading. DD...
