I must admit to having been sceptical about buying one of these. It was an image thing really. Not that I worry if people think that I am gay,a hairdresser,or both. But she wanted it,so I did a deal in a diner on the A1 with a Geordie property developer who was short of cash. £23,000 in notes in a Morrison's carrier bag. I was unimpressed. The ride was hard as the hobs of hell, and if you drove over a 10p coin you could tell whether it was heads or tails. Then I discovered that the not-so-canny lad had fitted wider wheels and low profiletyres.I replaced them with standard width wheels and Michelin Premacy tyres. The result-a ride transformation and 4/5 mpg extra. The week after I got it I decided to try it out properly. It was mid november but there was really only one place to go,it had to be Monte Carlo.I drove down in two days, her indoors after having crazed for the car flew down to Nice and I picked her up at the airport. It was the drive of a lifetime, over the Alps and as I arrived in Nice the temperature was 21.I averaged 43.6 mpg.Mine is the six speed manual,in my opinion the better option.
