... So I carried on taking it for the next 21 days with no side effects, my mood had certainly lifted a great deal after about a week of discarding Yasmin and starting on Mercilon, it was like a huge weight had been lifted off my poor breaking back. I had no breakthrough bleeding, as I did my ... Read review

Mercilon-Contraceptive Pill. Works for me.

Advantages: Regualr periods, prevents pregnacy
Disadvantages: More sensitive with missed pill moments.

...spirits. Very early on taking Mercilon I did have some horrendous spots (they were like having a 2nd or even 3rd head). Knowing it would take a while for my body to properly adjust to the new pill and weighing up my options i.e. moody for 21/28 days, sever headaches and low sex drive of my previous pills or 1 day of feeling a bit groggy in 28 days and 27 perfectly normal days with Mercilion, I decided it was worth persevering.

...have always been clock-wise, for Mercilon it’s anti-clockwise and even now I still struggle to remember. Anyway, also on the foil backing it has a MISSED PILL warning, something I haven’t come across before, apart from the usual take extra precautions, I think because of the lower dose it is advised to carry through to your next packet without a break depending where you are in your cycle, which I didn’t have to the do with the others I and tried. ... more

My experience with Mecilon .........so far

Advantages: Effective contraception, bigger breasts, clear skin, reduced appetite, lighter less painful periods, made me happier
Disadvantages: Serious and minor potential side effects

...needed and put me on Mercilon ( one of the lowest dose pills). He said based on the side-effects I'd suffered previously it was obvious that the synthetic oestrogen did not agree with me, and that If the low dose pill didn't work I'd have to take a mini pill ( and I didn't want that as I'm awful at taking pills at exactly the same time each day). I've been taking it for two months now and I am so happy with it. I have no headaches, my boobs are ...
...I have no spots. My periods are regular, lighter and less painful. I think I even feel happier taking these. I think perhaps they have balanced out my hormones. Plus with these pills I seem to have less of an appetite ( which is good for me as I was worried about putting weight on if I started taking t he pill.). Best of all it a really effective and reliable form of contraception. The only side effects I experienced were within the first week of ...

Review of Mercilon Contraceptive Pill

Side effects

Micro-Pill and Mini Skirts

Advantages: Haven't become pregnant yet!
Disadvantages: The "scares" mentionned in the Press

Mercilon is one of the new generation of very low-dose oral contraceptive pills. It was brought out in 1986 by Organon. The pill works by overriding the normal female cycle, preventing the release of eggs. This is done by using derivatives of female hormones, oestrogen and progesterone. The derivatives used in Mercilon are Ethinylestradiol (a synthetic form of oestrogen ) and desogestrel (a synthetic form of progesterone) ************************** ...
...make me feel depressed, and Mercilon contains a very low dose of this hormone. I have tried other pills before and this one is the only one that works for me. I assure you that I have never become pregnant, and haven't noticed any side effects. No weight gain, no mood swings, nothing! So can wear mini-skirts ( not that I do! ), charm the boys and retain my flat stomach... ...

Review of Mercilon Contraceptive Pill

Side effects

Mercilon - Effective contraception

Advantages: 99% effective
Disadvantages: side effects

Mercilon was introduced by Oragon in 1986. Its a low dose contraceptive. The 28-day regimen consists of 150 microgram desogestret for 21 days and 20 microgram of ethinylestradiol, followed by 7 days of placebo tablets. You take the pills for 21 days then take a 7 day rest. The disadvantage of this is that you fet 7 days break and you can sometimes forget to start taking the pills again making the pill less effective. Mercilon contains a small amount ...

Review of Mercilon Contraceptive Pill

Side effects

Success with Mercilon

Advantages: Hardly any side effects, happier moods, bigger boobs!
Disadvantages: Water retention and some tenderness with breasts but does fade

I started this pill a month ago and am now on the second pack. At first I was going to consider stopping it as I was experiencing a really bloated tummy and really painful boobs, but I have given the second pack a chance as I know I needed to let my body get use to the hormones etc.... I am very glad I did keep it up because so far on the second pack I have not experienced anything negative other than a small amount of pain with my boobs which I ...
...bloated any more and feel alot happier. I have tried other pills in the past but have had the same symptons alot of other people have had by the sounds of it. I experienced headaches and was constantly depressed and tired. This one is by far the best and I would reccommend giving it ago even if you feel like you have tried all of the pills and have given up trying. Also be patient with this one even if you feel like giving up on it on the first ...

Dianette....or Dianot?

Advantages: Contraceptive cover
Disadvantages: pain, depression, tender breasts, headaches, not safe to be on for too long

break. Advantages: * Works as a contraceptive * Works as an acne treatment Disadvantages: * Didn't do anything for my acne * My ovaries felt like shards of glass were being pushed through them on the 7-day break in particular. * Not safe for long-term use. * Tends to cause depression (possibly the higher oestrogen, but also the progestogen type) * Ridiculous weight gain in spite of diet and exercise. * Headaches and low moods. * I felt irritable all the time and constantly cried. * Very tender breasts - probably the higher oestrogen. I would not write this pill off completely. I know of some great success stories from other acne and PCOS sufferers. Unfortunately not me though! Nowadays there are safer pills available that will help acne and work as a contraceptive, such as Yasmin, Marvelon, Cilest, Mercilon ...

Review of Dianette Contraceptive Pill

Everyone is different.

Advantages: Easy contraception.
Disadvantages: Doesn't suit everyone.

When I first tried the contraceptive pill I thought I would never find one which suited me, I was prescribed Microgynon which made me seriously emotional, Loestrin 20 which caused me to bleed for 3 months straight, Mercilon which turned me into an emotional monster and finally Femodene which I am currently settled on. Femodene is a combined contraceptive pill and states in the booklet that it protects you in 3 ways. ?*No egg is released *The fluid in the neck of your womb thickens so it is more difficult for sperm to enter *The lining of your womb doesn?t thicken enough for an egg to grow in.? Femodene comes in a box containing 3 strips of pills; each strip represents a single month (21 days) and has the days written on it so that you can easily check you have taken your pill each day, the pill itself is about 5mm in diameter ...
