Meridian G91

Advantages: Those looks, playback quality, awesome picture.
Disadvantages: No composite output

...I bought this player pretty much when it first arrived on the scene. Breathtaking looks, it also offered the functionalty of a player which would not needed to be upgraded for quite a while. It covers the major codes Dolby digital and dts and mpeg. Whilst some may complain that it has no internal decoding I would disagree as most internal players decoding is NOT going to be as good as a standalone. Personally I have mine decoded by a Meridian 565 7.1 Processor which I think is far superior to any decoding done on any player. Once chipped this player is a beauty. Picture qualty is sharp and I have not had any problems watching any movie. I had heard of lip sync problems and I believe it happens as for a few seconds I get this problem on R2 disc L.A. Advantages: Sound quality, even at very high volume. Easy positioning.
Disadvantages: Price, incompatable with most Hi-Fi.

...I heard these speakers in my local Hi-Fi shop and was totally amazed by the sound quality. I had previously been listening to a pair of £1,000+ floor standing speakers but when switching to the DSP5000s the difference in clarity was simply stunning. It was as if pillows had been removed from the side of my head. Sadly these beasts cost in the region of £4,000 and to make matters worse they are digital, which means they are only really compatible with other Meridian kit. The "budget" surround sound processor is a further £2,850. Sadder still, I knew I was hooked and would never be satisfied until I had a pair in my living room. After eating gruel for a year and selling all my family (only a slight exaggeration) I installed them into my audio/TV setup.
