...believes Billy has been murdered.
This is the opening few chapters to Michael Connelly’s book, and almost from the start you are intrigued. How does Bosch know it’s not a murder, and more importantly how will he convince his superiors?
Michael Connelly has created a real character in that of Detective Harry Bosch, in some ways he reminds me of Ian Rankin’s Inspector John Rebus, both are loners with a strong minded pursuit of justice that means their personal lives always take a back seat. Mind you, I must admit that the character description put me off a bit, reminded me of some dreadful 1970’s cop show where they all wore cheap suits and had big moustaches!
Enjoyed the book though!...

Advantages: Harry Bosch is back on the case in another cracking tale Disadvantages: None
...Another excellent Harry Bosch novel from Michael Connelly! Bosch is still with the Open/Unsolved Unit when he gets a call on one of his own cold cases that has haunted him 13 years ago. A serial killer, the "Echo Park Bagman" has offered to take police to the body of Marie Gesto as part of a plea bargain to avoid the death penalty. But as part of the investigation focusses on confirming the killers story, it looks like there was a lead that, if it had been followed up at the time, could have led Bosch to the killer and prevented a further 9 killings. As Bosch digs further into the case he begins to doubt his view of himself as a "true detective" speaking for the victim.
This is another journey into the tortured soul of LA's best cop, Harry Bosch and once again Connelly is on top form....

Advantages: Two great characters for the price of one - Harry Bosch and Terry McCaleb Disadvantages: Would the action be too much for McCaleb's Heart?
...Michael Connolly is one of my favourite authors. I bought A Darkness More Than Night because the preface mentioned Harry Bosch, my favourite Connelly character.
I wasn’t disappointed. This novel reintroduces another Connelly character, Terry McCaleb an ex FBI agent who was teamed with Bosch in a previous investigation. I think I would have enjoyed the story even more if I had read the previous Bosch/McCaleb novel.
McCaleb is called in to help investigate a strange killing, the circumstances of which are similar to a case he had once profiled for the FBI What makes the case even more bizarre is the fact that Harry Bosch appears to fit the killers profile exactly. Is this a case of good cop turned bad?. Those of us familiar with Bosch don’t believe that for a minute. He couldn’t possibly be the bad...
