Advantages: Very good grip in all weather, especially in the wet. Disadvantages: The cost and fact that they wear faster.

Two French brothers called Edouard and Andre Michelin, owned a rubber factory. One day, a cyclist with a punctured pneumatic tyre arrived at their factory. This tyre was glued to the rim, and It took over 3 hours to remove it and repair the tyre, which then had to be left overnight to dry. The next day, they took the repaired bicycle into the yard for testing. After several hundred Meters, the repair failed. Despite this setback, they were still enthusiastic about this pneumatic tyre, and proceeded to made their, own, which didn't need glueing onto the rim.
In 1891, they took out the first patent for a removable pneumatic tyre. The rest as they say, is history.
I was lucky enough to buy a car with these fitted, and I can say the amount of grip is brilliant. They do cost more than most tyres, and the noise is slightly louder, but of course it depends on what you want. They are a fairly soft compound, hence the extra grip, however you have to accept that they will wear faster than some. If money was no object, I would fit them, even though I do not need a "Performance" tyre.

The size of a tyre is measured thus:- We will take a common size tyre as an example - 195/70R x 16 82 V. "195" is the width of the tread in mm, "70" is the aspect ratio in % (the height of the sidewall divided by the tyre's width), "R" is short for Radial, and "16" is the diameter (in inches) of the wheel rim itself, (not the tyre rim). The "82" is the load rating, the higher the number, the more weight the tyre can take, (82 is actually for 515Kgs!) "V" is the speed rating, in this case over 240 KPH!, Well above out speed limits, but bear it in mind if you intend going on the Autobahns.
In the UK you will need a minimum of 1.6mm of tread, On trucks and buses, this is the same as motorcycles, just one mm! This is the legal limit, such little tread will shift very little water and you could aquaplane at slow speeds, Many countries specify a lot more tread, look it up if going abroad.
It does not matter how good your tyres are, if you have the wrong pressure in them, yours are correct of course? You checked the recently?

Advantages: grip, wear pattern, confidence Disadvantages: Wear rate, but I'll update on this when they have seen more action
Michelin Pilot Road 2.
These tyres are advertised as being the best of both worlds because they are a duel compound construction. The centre band of the tyre is a harder compound and is designed to give a much longer life than normal tyres, whilst the shoulders of the tyres are a softer compound to give better grip on corners and when the road is slippery.
I had the tyres fitted to my bike on 22/02/07 [just over 3 months ago] and to date I have ... ...wet. With the Michelin Pilot Road 2 I have noticed none of this and the squaring appears to be much less than I would expect.
From new the Michelin Pilot Road 2 come with 6 mm(f) & 8mm(r) of tread and they still have 4.5mm(f) and 6mm(r) left which by my reckoning will give me an expected life of around 6710 miles. This is a little lower than I would normally expect but time will tell.
On the road.
I’ve driven bikes for over 28 years now and I ...

Advantages: Good all rounder Disadvantages: Better can be had for the same money
I used to have 205/50/16 MichelinPilot Premacy tyres fitted all round to my Ford Focus. As an all rounder the tyres themselves are pretty good
In the dry the grip is excellent and not much is lost in the wet. However they are nowhere near as in the same league as the PilotSports for wet grip.
Another problem I have found with these tyres is that after a few thousand miles, the tyres I had seemed to develop small surface cracks. However I am sure they were not enough to cause a blowout or anything equally devestating. Yet, for a tyre barely a few months old to show such signs of wear after a relatively short period of time is quite worring. I did however have a set fitted to my front wheels for almost 40,000 miles which I consider to be quite excellent!
All in all they are pretty good tyres, but I would suggest saving a few ...
Advantages: spacious, refined, different and very quick Disadvantages: none that ive come across
gear! Feul wise I think they said about 30 mpg combined, well that maybe true if you drive arround in 6th gear all day (economical with 80mph at 3,000 rpm!!) but the reason you buy a big engined car is to drive it! so i think i get more like 20 mpg or less!!!! but i dont like to think about it too much!!, there is a choice of 16 or 17 inch alloys, the latter being an optional extra, but look better and give a little bit more in handling. The car comes fitted with Michelinpilotsport low profile tyres, very nice looking set up on the alloys!
I hope that helps abit, as I find out more stuff I wil update more. Thanks for the comments, every little helps, good or bad.
