Michelin Pilot Road 2.
These tyres are advertised as being the best of both worlds because they are a duel compound construction. The centre band of the tyre is a harder compound and is designed to give a much longer life than normal tyres, whilst the shoulders of the tyres are a softer compound to give better grip on corners and when the road is slippery.
I had the tyres fitted to my bike on 22/02/07 [just over 3 months ago] and to date I have covered some 2013 miles with them. The majority of this usage has been on straight line motorway and fast A road riding.
With previous tyres I have quickly noticed a squaring off of my tyres something that makes dropping over into corners a trifle unnerving especially when the road is wet.
With the Michelin Pilot Road 2 I have noticed none of this and the squaring appears to be much less than I would expect.
From new the Michelin Pilot Road 2 come with 6 mm(f) & 8mm(r) of tread and they still have 4.5mm(f) and 6mm(r) left which by my reckoning will give me an expected life of around 6710 miles. This is a little lower than I would normally expect but time will tell.
On the road. I’ve driven bikes for over 28 years now and I have to say that I’m impressed with the Michelin Pilot Road 2.
As I’ve already said they stand up well to long straight up riding and so far they have behaved well when flicking around through bends.
The tyres are easy to throw around and I’ve noticed that I can now flick from one side to the other with a little more confidence than I’m used to. There is also less road noise than I’m used to putting up with.
