Hallelujah! Finally, a pill with no apparent side effects! After trying half a dozen different ones over the course of several years, and suffering everything from acne, mood swings and general permanent PMS to loss of sex drive or incessant bleeding, I cannot express how relieved I am to have found a pill that just does it's job, and nothing else.
Micronor is a progesterone only pill (POP, mini-pill). It is taken continuously, once a day with no breaks. It is a low dose, so it has to be taken at the same time every day, within a 3 hour window. (If you take it more than 3 hours late or miss a pill entirely, you have to use condoms or some other form of contraception for the next week or so.)
This 3 hour deadline is often considered a major disadvantage, and may indeed be a problem if you do not have any daily routine whatsoever. But I've found that simply taking it when I go to bed works fine. (This is usually about 11pm, and hardly ever later than 2am, so it's very easy to keep within the window.) And for me, the benefits far outweigh the potential difficultes. The low dosage that causes the 3 hour limit also means that the pill is far less disruptive to the natural hormonal cycle than most others. Of course, that might not suit everyone - if you want something to regulate your periods this isn't it - but personally I've been very glad to get back to my naturally brief and regular periods.
I only wish I had discovered Micronor earlier, without going through so many other pills that didn't suit me. Unfortunately, unless you have specific requirements (medical conditions, heavy smoking etc.) that limit the kind of pill you can take, doctors seem to be reluctant to prescribe this type of POP because of the 3 hour window. But if you can stick to the time limit, and if, like me, you have found that other pills produce annoying side effects, it is definitely worth requesting Micronor or another low dose POP from your doctor.
UPDATE:
After taking Micronor for 6 months or so, I realised I've put on quite a lot of weight. Now I hesitate to blame this on the pill because firstly, I lost a couple of stone a while ago, so I've really just returned to my 'natural' weight, and secondly, I've been eating a lot of deserts... However, it is possible that Micronor has contributed, so I thought I'd mention it!

Sex drive.....what sex drive
Review of Micronor Contraceptive Pill by
Gwenick
Advantages: stops you falling pregnant (hopefully)
Disadvantages: can affect you sex drive - badly
...doctor prescribed for me is Micronor - sometimes refered to as the mini-pill.
WHAT ARE THEY
They are a progesterone only pill and works basically by thickening the vaginal fluid (so that the sperm cannot get to the womb - ha gotcha) and by changing the lining of the womb so that eggs cannot grow there. They are a small, white, round pill and come in a packet with days marked on it to help you 'remember' to take them.
WHO SHOULD NOT TAKE THEM
... ...think you may be pregnant
You have a problem with your circulation, such as phlebitis or blood clots
You have, or have ever had:
- a heart attack
- a stroke
- jaundice of pregnancy or jaundice whilst taking the pill
You have
- severe liver problems
- liver tumours
- tumours of the breast, womb or ovary
- unusual or irregular vaginal bleeding which your doctor does not know about
Obviously though, as with all medication, you should discuss ...

Turning into the weepy, depressed weirdo.
Review of Micronor Contraceptive Pill by
Friedegg
Advantages: Can be taken when the combined pill is not suitable.
Disadvantages: Like all pills, can have side effects for individuals.
...only pill. He prescribed me Micronor and I started taking it.
After a week of taking it, there was a death in the family, but not a particularly close relative to me. However, even weeks after the funeral I was still feeling very down and weepy about it. I remember feeling that it was weird since I wasn't particularly close to the person who died. I now know that this was the start of the effects of the pill.
I started shouting at my boyfriend ... ...happening to me on the Micronor I could be fine with another pill. So now I've been taking Femulen for about 2 years with no major problems.
To sum it all up, I would say that you shouldn't be put off by what I am saying, just be aware that these things could happen. And if nasty side-effects come along, please don't wait three months like I did - stop straightaway as there are other pills out there that will suit you.
I have given this pill an ...

Micronor Contraceptive Mini Pill
Review of Micronor Contraceptive Pill by
LauraGoba
Advantages: Prevents pregnancy
Disadvantages: Extremely unpleasant physical & mental side effects :(
At the age of 20, I was admitted to hospital with stroke like symptoms caused by the combined pill. I did not know this at the time, but I should never have been given the combined pill as I very occasionally suffer from severe migraines. I am healthy, keep very fit & I don't smoke or drink. I was advised that it was safe to take the POP but after my experience, I did not pluck up the courage to try it until I was 23. For the last year, I have tried ... ...every time because they made me bleed almost every day, which is a contraceptive in itself (but not something anyone would want to live with)! I then became anaemic due to the constant loss of blood. Micronnor is the last brand I have available to me to try and I have been taking it for 3 months. I have stuck it out because it's my last hope of a POP but for me personally, it has been the worst. Physically, I am bleeding a lot and its erratic (although ...

I loved Micronor!
Review of Micronor Contraceptive Pill by
darkstar1680
Advantages: No babies! Few side effects
Disadvantages: VERY irregular periods, must be taken at exactly the same time daily
Micronor is a Progestin-Only Pill (POPs). Most Pills are Combined Oral Contraceptives (COCs). I had been on COCs before, and had positive experiences with them. I went off the Pill for awhile and when I was ready to go back on it, the doctor suggested Micronor as it is slightly less risky for heavy smokers. However, it is VERY important to take your POP at the exact same time every day. I was told this repeatedly. COCs have the benefit of a generous ... ...Micronor at all! If you have trouble remembering to take your Pills on time, then Micronor probably isn't for you. Luckily, I'm pretty good about it once I get into the habit. I was on Micronor for 2 years solid and experienced virtually no bad side effects. A *slight* decrease in libido, but not drastic at all. The only thing I disliked about it is that it does not regulate your periods like COCs do. I suppose this is because it lacks estrogen. ...
