Advantages: industry standard, very powerful for the price Disadvantages: not user friendly, doesn't use all standards
Like it or not, Microsoft Access is probably the most widely used database programme there is. I have used it for years for various things – from analysing university project data for myself to powering full e-commerce websites. I also used to teach courses on it and I am writing this in particular for anyone who has an interest in computers and has an idea that they should learn about databases next, but doesn’t know where to start.
... ...that comes as part of Microsoft Office Professional (for which you pay about £50 extra) this is phenomenally powerful. Finally with Access you can also build “forms”, which are user-friendly ways of entering and searching for data. You’d probably recognise them – grey boxes with buttons and white bits to enter text and they are indeed user friendly, as long as you design them well.
There is of course a price to pay for all ...

I used Microsoft Access for a GCSE Information Systems project and was able to produce high quality output.
Advantages
1. Setting up a new database for beginners is quite complex but once you know how to do it and with extra help provided onscreen it is easy to understand.
2. There is a wide range of verification techniques that can be used to make sure the data is put in to the database correctly.
3. Analysing - Calculations and complex interrogations ... ...linked with external data
18. Microsoft are the manufacturers of Windows which is the most widely used operating system and Word which is the most widely used word processor meaning the user interface will be familiar – icons, menus etc.
19. All data is saved as soon as the table/form/report is closed or a new record is used. This means that if the computer crashes or mistakes are made information is not lost.
Disadvantages
1. If mistakes are ...

Advantages: Very Poweful Disadvantages: Difficult and daunting to learn at first
Microsoft Access is one of those products that to review properly would take you an entire encyclopedia to explain and rate all its features. So, I shall cover the major points only. I shall not provide any kind of manual, but rather compare the features and state their good and bad points. If you want and tips/help with anything like this then plese drop a note in my guest book and I'll hapily do my best to answer them. Also I appologise, in advance, ... ...As a stand-alone program Microsoft Access weighs in at around £200 - £300 pounds depending on where you buy it from. It also comes shipped with the Microsoft Office Suite (profesional edtion). To put it simply Access is a database program which allows you to store and manipulate data in a relational way, like a series of filing cabinets, except that these filing cabinates can interact with one another to avoid data duplication)

Advantages: Successful upgrade to the MS Access series Disadvantages: Access 97 users will not benefit from the upgrade.
Access 2000 is the next generation of the successful relational database system created by Microsoft.
Introduction
A relational databases uses table to store data in. Each table will carry data relating to a set. For instance one table may have a list of vendors, another table may have a list of orders.
In a relational database, these two tables are ‘Joined’ or related to each other. In the example, the vendor number would be placed ... ...this number.
Once the basic tables and data have been designed and input, Access 2000 allows you to build queries, forms and reports to control the input and output of data.
Access allows you to connect to most types of relational databases, such as SQL Server or Oracle, and also includes a Jet engine, or the new cut down version of SQL Server for home use.
Data can be imported or exported easily

Advantages: Very comprehensive, powerful and flexible Disadvantages: Not intuitive like Word, or even Excel to a certain extent
...great list!
Being a Microsoft product, it’s very easy to integrate Access with Excel and even Word. Lists within Excel can be either imported or remotely linked as tables. Data listed in queries can be linked back to fill in the blanks in Word documents.
Let me give you an example that I’m quite proud of. Where I previously worked as a performance measurement manager, we were responsible for polling customers at the end of a lengthy ... ...The Project manager would give us all the usual customer details, which would be input by my staff on a database form. At the bottom of the form was a “button” programmed to load MS Word, open a specific document and, using the data in a query designed to pull out the latest record’s details, fill in all the blanks in the document so that a covering letter could be sent to the customer asking if he would be kind enough to complete ...

Manufacturer's product description
Microsoft Access 2000, the latest generation of Microsoft's database management system, gives you powerful new ways to interact with data over the Web and to use the application as the front end of high-end database engines such as Microsoft SQL Server. It is also easier to use than its predecessors. Based on the threshold you define, Access 2000 will automatically compact your databases when you close them, preserving disk space. The database window has been changed to accommodate new Access 2000 objects and make the program easier to use. With Access 2000, you can drag and drop Access objects into Microsoft Excel for further analysis. You can also create desktop shortcuts by dragging and dropping objects to the desktop. With picture-in-picture views, you can focus on and edit related data in the same window. Save your database for an earlier version of Access so that it's easier to share with users of earlier versions. Name AutoCorrect relieves the headaches you may have encountered after renaming a database object. In Access 2000, your change is automatically made elsewhere as needed. For instance, if you change the name of a field, Name AutoCorrect updates dependent objects, such as queries and forms, accordingly. Now you can change most form properties within Form View and see the effect immediately, rather than having to switch back and forth between Form View and Design View. Using Print Relationships Wizard you can print a copy of the Relationships windows, a visual diagram of how your database is structured. To make changes quickly and efficiently to controls, you can group them and manipulate them all at once. Access 2000 supports negative and positive numbers, and less-than, greater-than, between, and equal-to values. Also, you can set font, styles, banners, and colors based on values.
I have to be honest, as I'm typing now my hand's have never navigated so freely and so comfortably over a keyboard before. The Microsoft Comfort curve Keyboard 2000 isn't just you're average keyboard, it's slim, stylish, and elegant on anyone home office more
