I've had more than my fair share of mice in the past, from everything between a two button serial mouse to 7 button wireless mouse, but when my latest investment (a 99p mouse I found in a bargain bucket) fell apart in my hands, I thought it would be a wise idea to actually put some money towards the purchase of a decent mouse.
I'm always reluctant to spend a great deal of money on peripherals. I backed out again and again when buying my Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard before I eventually bit the bullet and parted with £40 of my hard earned cash and have never really regretted my decision since. Even though at £15, this Microsoft mouse only cost me a fraction of what I paid for the keyboard, it still hurt a little bit when I realised I'd just bought something that does exactly the same as my old 99p mouse.
The mouse looks very stylish and is shaped to fit the contours of the hand far better than some of the mice I have used in the past. It is very comfortable in the hand and feels as though it is well constructed. My only complaint would be that the scroll wheel is quite tough to move and the middle button is quite hard to press - there's certainly a technique to it. You seem to have to push it down at more than an angle than what I'm used to, and I think that anyone who doesn't use their middle finger to scroll may find it quite difficult to use at first.
The mouse itself has 4 buttons - one on the left side of the mouse and the scroll wheel as well as the two regular left and right buttons. It's quite unique in the way that as well as having a vertical scroll wheel, you can also tilt the wheel from left to right in order to scroll horizontally, although I haven't found many applications that support this feature. The forth button might make it uncomfortable to use if you're left-handed, and I don't believe there's a version out with the button on the right side of the mouse. None of the buttons feel loose and with the exception of the middle button, are very smooth and easy to press

By default this is set to a magnifying window, which follows the mouse around and magnifies whatever is under the mouse, however I find mapping it to the 'Browser Back' function is really handy.
USB is the connection of choice for this mouse, however a USB to PS/2 adapter is provided if you're running low on USB ports! The mouse isn't wireless, though I don't think that being wired is really so much of a disadvantage. I've always found that accuracy is questionable on wireless mice, and having to worry about changing the batteries or recharging a wireless mouse is a big pain. The accuracy on this mouse however, is superb and I've found I don't need to use a mouse mat anymore - I can just use my wooden desktop.
As for value for money, I can't really fault this mouse. I'm glad I decided not to go with a cheap mouse and I'm fairly confident that I won't have to go mouse shopping for the next couple of years! If you're hesitating about spending this much money on the mouse, I'd suggest you give it a chance.

Review of Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 - mouse
Advantages: Very comfortable Disadvantages: Unnecessary gimmicks; dire wheel button
...gimmicks, and this offering from Microsoft is no exception. First of all, the big selling point: the magnify button. Ok, great idea in theory. Let's have a nice button for blowing up things you can't read. In reality you end up clicking this button far too much. I did reassign it because of this so that I could do a wheel click without using the wheel, but now I just don't use it. So, as far as I'm concerned, the magnify button is an ill-placed gimmick.
... ...supposed to do this 4 way scrolling thing, but seeing as it doesn't tilt very much horizontally, I've just reverted back to clicking the wheel button and scrolling that way. The vertical scrolling is a joy though, because the wheel rolls so smoothly, you'd think it wasn't attached to anything at all. I love this when I want to scroll quickly through a long page - then it's great - but when I'm using it to zoom in and out it can be quite tricky to ...

Advantages: Very smooth scroll wheel Disadvantages: Clicking zoom button by accident
When I started my new job I was asked to choose the new computer mouse I wanted to use so that they could order it for me. I looked on lots of sites for a good deal. This one seemed like the best one for the money. I have had it for a few months now.
The mouse is optical, meaning it has no ball in the bottom (they always get clogged up). This also makes the mouse a lot smoother. Of course most mice these days are optical, but for those needing to ... ...optical.
The unique thing about this mouse is its scroll wheel. It is completely smooth, without the clicks you usually get on a scroll wheel. It is very strange at first! But I really don't want to go back to a clicky wheel now, this one is so quiet and a pleasure to use.
A second very useful feature of this mouse is the scroll button also works from left to right. This is very handy when you go on a web page that is too wide for the window. It ...

Advantages: Comfortable Disadvantages: Nothing Special About It
So, the microsoft optical comfort mouse. It's a nice looking thing, a grey colour overall with black parts on the sides, and a nice plastic sheen to it that doesnt look at all tacky. The way the buttons are all part of the same top covering makes it looks better than some mice out there, it's modern and stylish. The slightly different colour greys are also a nice touch.
It fits the palm of the hand nicely, and its well structured to feel solid. I've ... ...I do have one problem i can find with it though - the scrolling wheel is a bit too wide - and it separates your fingers too much.
The mouse itself is accurate, but i found the optical parts on my model sometimes didnt pick up really small movements with the accuracy of a good quality rollerball mouse. However, they would be far more expensive than this. The buttons are solid quality and give a nice thick click sound, i do not think you could ever ...

...including the drivers and a microsoft mouse configuration program. Its definitely a good idea to install this program as it allows you to program your mouse in many different ways, including the sensitivity, and pointers etc... which are the basic ones. But it also lets you program every button on the mouse to do different things which I found pretty cool. The basic features of the mouse include 2 normal left and right buttons, a mouse wheel that ... ...is still quite annoying obviously.
And to quickly some up the manufacturer support, its microsoft so on their website you will find absolutely everything to do with it including helpguides, new updated drivers and the lot.
Overall a good cheap little mouse thats a good all rounder :) ...

This is a LIE. Before buying this mouse, I used the Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical (which gave its best until it died). That mouse could work on virtually any surface, and would do it with class. This mouse is only usable on carefully-selected matt ... ...for buying an optical mouse - no more mouse mats), and even then you get cursor jumping and insensitivity. This is particularly irritating when doing image editing and high-speed game playing, where the mouse puts you at a noticeable disadvantage.
That said, the rest of the mouse is fine. The magnify button is quite fun, but you might want to reassign that. The tilt wheel is a timesaver (even if you might not have thought it would be), but works ...
