Microsoft Wired Keyboard

Just before Christmas my other half managed to spill half a glass of water onto my keyboard, and I was not amused to say the least and after convincing him "no you can't just dry it out" we were straight down to Argos to pick up a new one. Half an hour later - love the new pay with card Argos machines, no queue to pay for me thank you - I had myself a nice new Black Microsoft keyboard for the bargain price of £10.

Packaging was adequate - no unnecessary over-wrapping to wrestle with, which is a refreshing change. Straight out the box and plugged in worked straight away on my XP windows with no need to mess around installing anything. Looks pretty good is Black, I like it. Has 2 flip out legs to raise one end and they do their job well enough, is comfortable to type on the keys aren't overly sensitive but not so bad you need to stab at them with your fingers. It is a wired keyboard which will put off those used to wireless but me and wireless stuff have problems, the past 2 new 'mice' I bought ended up chucked back in their boxes and sold off on eBay my faithful old mouse seems the only wireless thing my computer will get on with.

Features...

I was surprised a keyboard for £10 actually had any features but it does, there are 10 shortcut 'Hot keys' at the top of the keyboard to give you "...one-touch access to e-mail, the Web, and frequently used features..." quite handy actually as they are all pre-programmed and work straight away with no messing around assigning buttons to do what you want them to, some quite handy little buttons.

There's one that opens up Email programme, a 'Home' button which opens up explorer and takes me to my home-page, a favorites button, a play/pause button which is good as I normally have music going on in the background when I'm typing, there's also up/down volume buttons and a mute button - which comes in handy for pop-up adverts with annoying music. There's one for video and media - this opens up 'nero' when I press it finally there's a button that takes me straight to 'my computer' and one that gives me a calculator.

What do I think ?

I think it does its job and does it well at that. For a £10 keyboard it is pretty damn good, I was looking for a quick fix over Christmas, this was not meant to be a permanent feature on my computer table but is still here a couple of months later. I've had no problems with it, it looks good - it's black slightly curvy at the bottom, looks nice enough and matches my computer...plus the hot keys do come in handy mostly for my music. Works fine on my Xp Home Windows no problem Not quite sure of the product description "...Enjoy a drink while you work - this keyboard is designed to withstand an accidental spill...." I'd rather not try that out.....
