Advantages: Perfect for small businesses, home or otherwise Disadvantages: Not Unix based, suceptible to viruses, crackers, etc
This is a good product for those who wish for pure interoperability between a Windows only network. Somewhat easy to set up, and can be a hassle to keep running. As with other Microsoft products, support may be limited, and will be obsolete within a year or so, and updating may cause incompatibilities with other networked machines, account setups, and applications hosted on the server. But, it is a familiar interface, being windows. I personally wouldn't get this again, but that's because my needs were too specific for this server software. That doesn't mean you don't need it. I recommend it for a small home business that can handle downtime once in a while. ...
Advantages: Much better HTML, CSS & scripting support, easy to use Disadvantages: some features rely on Sharepoint Services which most people won't have.
FrontPage has had a troubled history. Those that enjoyed its simple WYSIWYG approach felt let down by its lack of support for newer web technologies whilst HTML gurus sneered at its poor HTML generation and dependence on proprietary extensions on the server to achieve anything useful.
With the 2003 release Microsoft have tried very hard to please everyone and managed to achieve great strides although it is still far from perfect.
In terms of support, things are now much more impressive. There is support for XML, XSLT, CSS, Jscript, Javascript, VBScript and ASP.NET. Where it still lacks is mainly PHP and common non Microsoft databases such as MySQL The support extends to IntelliSense and AutoComplete as well as easy access to any code snippets you may have in your library.
FrontPage 2003 also has tools to help develop web site ...
Advantages: Well designed and works well Disadvantages: The cost can be high for up and coming companies
If you've got an enterprise business with real email needs, forget the standardedition. Theres only one way to go and thats with this version...enterprise. Standardedition only offers 16GB database limit which these days isnt very much at all. It also only offers 1 mailbox store. Enterprise offers you up to 20 mailbox stores which makes for far better organization. You can have for example sales in one store, accounts in another and another for you directors etc. so its far easier to manage. Enterprise also offers clustering and X400 connectors for thoese who require them. All in all, theres really no better email software out there. Your other alternatives are Lotus Notes which in my experience is nowhere near as easy for your end users to use as Exchange with Outlook. ...
