Review of "Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Deluxe Edition (PC)"
Wow, what a game. After my inital 20 minute install and several cups of coffee while i waited I was not dissappointed with the end result. I have a fairly powerfull machine (A pentium dual core 2.9 ghz processor with 1gb ram and 512mb geforce graphics) and the graphics a gameplay do not fail to dissappoint. In saying this the level of detail is still not turned onto maximum so i have reduced airtraffic and some anti-alias settings turned off. Even so the end result is good.
I have always been a fan of flight sims but the control systems are someties tiresome, not in this case, they are easy to grasp and the maual explains all well, with some good intoduction training lessons for the flight sim beginner. The deluxe edition is a must as it has additional aircraft and the cities are more detaild, although this is only noticable if you are running a powerfull machine.
The structured missions (65 of them) are a good basis to start from and are always fun for a quick flight. They range from flying though gates in your helicopter, to landing a jumbo in the carribean, to the famouse redbull airrace. There are two option for the cockpit, a flat 2d view with most buttons on display or a 3d display where you must look around for you switch gear.
I bought this game sometime ago now and am still addicted to it, im glad to see it has come down in price as i paid nearly £60 for it when it can be bought for nearly half that price now.
Definately a must wheather you are a beginner or veterian pilot. Top marks microsoft.

Manufacturer's product descriptionIn a nutshell:Microsoft's original civilian flight sim is still clocking up the air miles with the most significant sequel for years and a genuine attempt to make it more accessible for non-propellerheads.The lowdown:While almost all other flight simulators have fallen from grace on the PC, Microsoft have never given up on the genre with a game that's as ruthlessly realistic as it is completely free of any kind of violence. Every major, and minor, airport in the world is simulated and every major city has its share of recognisable landmarks, allowing you to fly anywhere in the world. There's a huge range of different aircraft to fly too: from jumbo jets and seaplanes to helicopters and everything in between. The only problem is that the game needs a seriously powerful PC to run at full whack, but even on lower detail levels this is still a stunning achievement. Most exciting moment:Despite the realism, the game isn't all dry simulation. There are a lot of fun missions to try out, including acting as a Hollywood stuntman, going on search and rescue flights, fighting fires and even flying over the infamous Area 51.Since you ask:The deluxe version of the game includes more cities, airports and aircraft as a well as an extra series of twenty-odd missions. There are also some additional multiplayer options, including the chance to share aircraft and have a go in the control tower. The bottom line:The most realistic commercial flight sim ever. Again.-HARRISON DENT From award winning game developer ACES comes Flight Simulator X.The latest installment will include the usual genre leading realismthat continues to awe real pilots and will serve as the graphicalbenchmark for games on Windows Vista.
