Iv'e had this cam for 9 months now, and to be quite honest i can't really fault it. The cam has a good resolution (640 x 480) so if you use it on msn messenger, you dont appear really fuzzy to the other person.
Built in microphone so you can chat to other people instead of typing. It has a clever attachement system to the top of your computer, it keeps it clipped in place and while its clipped in you can turn the camer part 360 degrees to suit you location and as well as this you can push it up and down to suit the height you are at.
The camera automatically adjusts to suit the lighting in the location you are in. If you are using the Cam with windows messenger you can add special affects such as turning the cam black and white, making it various differnet colours and manually adjusting the lighting, saturation etc. There is also a one touch calling system and it comes with lifecam software.
The lifecam software is very good concidering its come with a webcam. You open up onto a screen and it immediatly activates the cam to this section only and you are not able to use it with the internet. From here you can decide to take a picture, record a video or capture some sound. When you pick taking a picture or video, you can add some really funky special affects to the picture or video, these include flashing stars, falling leaves or snow, spiders haning from the top of the screen and many more. These affects are really great fun with friends taking pictures with spiders above your head etc. There is sound with the video and some friends and I recently used it to recreate a music type video, so the small cam really can provide a lot of fun.
The system requirments for the cam are as follows; Windows Vista/XP (Home and Pro)/Media Centre Edition/Tablet PC Edition: Pentium II, 550MHz (Pentium 4, 1.4GHz recommended), USB 1.1 (USB 2.0 recommended), CD-ROM drive, 25Mb hard drive space, internet access. Auto Update required for 1-touch blogging. Internet access required (for post to Windows Live Spaces, email, video calls). Internet Explorer 6.0 or later for installation, (users can maintain other default web browsers after installation).
As with most Webcams when i use it with the internet i do find that it occasionaly freezes, but as cams go it doesn't happen often unlike some at the same price. Microsoft lifecam vx-1000 is currently selling for around £19.99 and im sure if you look around you will be able to find it cheaper. Overall I believe its a nifty little cam, excellent quality, excellent value, well done microsoft!
Advantages: Clear pictures, all angle rotation, stylish Disadvantages: none
This is one of the best web cams i have purchased. The pictures are really clear no matter what lighting i am using. The simple click switch on the top makes it easy to get into video calling which i really couldn't live without. Not too bulky it fits nicely on top of any slimline monitor. or can stand freely on any surface. The cam can be moved to any angle without falling over whenever I try to move it as thats what i used to find with my previous ...
