After owning my xbox 360 for a while and playing quite a lot (probably too long) I was getting rather fed up with having to constantly change batteries in my controller as it kept running out of battery. This not only meant I had to go and find some new batteries - and in some instances even meant going to the shop to buy some new ones, but it also messed up whatever I was playing particularly in online play as I would just lose and not be able to play. Normal batteries were beginning to rely annoy me so I decided to purchase a play and charge kit! The xbox controller - being wireless eats up batteries like nothing and this kit is intended to be a simple solution to all those AA batteries.
What is it:
In this play and charge kit you get a battery pack and a USB charger wire. The battery pack is designed to fit perfectly into the battery bit on the back of the controller and replaces the old AA batteries and the cover. It slots in very easily by placing the bottom bit in first and then can be easily removed by pushing the button at the top and it will come straight out. The charger simply plugs into the top of the controller and then the other end (the USB bit) will plug into the front of the xbox or into your computer.
How it works:
At first you have to put the battery pack into the controller and then put the USB in and plug into the xbox or computer and leave to charge for about 5 hours. Once it is fully charged the light on the wire will change from red (charging) to green (fully charged). You will then be able to use your controller for around 30 hours before it will need recharging. The controller can be checked to see how much battery is left by pressing the xbox guide button and in the top corner on the menu on the screen it will show a level of battery in the controller. You will also be given a warning when the controller has 30 minutes of life left as it will flash all the lights around the middle several times.
Of course this kit has so many great benefits as it not only lasts for ages, it also has a relatively short charge time of only a few hours and then gives you up to 30 hours of play. You can also play on it while it is charging and it won't disrupt your game when the controller runs out of battery as you can just carry on playing and it will be like using a wired controller for a short amount of time.
It also saves you on batteries. Instead of having to constantly change and buy new batteries which can cost up to several pounds for only a pack of something like 6 AA batteries. These are also very bad for the environment as they cannot be recycled in the current state of technology so it is best to sue them as little as possible.
Price:
The play and charge kit costs £12.99 from play.com
You can also buy spare battery packs for £9.99 in all colours to suit all the controllers.
This is a great price if you think about the amount it costs you to keep changing batteries and buying new ones. Definitely a saving will be made in the long run.
Conclusion:
A must have for anyone who likes playing on their xbox quite a lot. You won't have to worry about having spare batteries and keep having to change them. You simply plug in the USB and start charging and will be able to play for hours on end without interruption!
