Microsoft word is included in the lowest edition of office 2007 which costs around £100, however for other more advanced versions with more programmes on it it can cost up to several hundred. This really is just an additional cost for an unnecessary product.

The New Layout... The new layout of Microsoft excel is much like the other office products in the office 2007 programmes, with one major difference. In excel the changes are actually practical and make life easier (hurrah! I her you say). The tabbed options replacing the former drop down boxes actually mean that most of the things that you will need to use are located in one place and you do not have to do any work looking for them making life much more easy. The changes are easy to make although for people used to the older style it may be very confusing and hard to adjust to, which goes without saying.
New Features... There are not really any new features, but the existing ones have been improvd and are much easier to find and use. This makes life easier and working less hard, but sadly does not make work more exciting.
Installation... Installing the product is incredibly simple but beware, you need time on your side as it takes a very long time. The loading time is also a problem when you start it up after installation. The installation is poor in this respect but otherwise not too bad.

A Note... If you are only looking for home use microsoft works spreadsheet is much better value and comes included with most computers. It has much the same features as Excel but is not as advanced. For in the home works is more pracical and more cos effective.
Reccomendations... As above, if for home use I reccomend Works Spreadsheet, but for business I can see that Excel is the right choice, and very appropriate. If you have the chance to use excel in the home for a low cost then wonderful, but if not I would not bother.

So another program in the series of the Microsoft establishment and can be used for a very lot of things. It has so many extra features then the Excel in the previous version. As with all of the other applications in the 2007 version it has been totally redesigned so that it is more user friendly than it has ever been making it easier for the user ever still. Microsoft Excel 2007 goes along with theme of everything being blue ... ...even the best of the Microsoft users have some difficulty using the software at first, but once you have used the program for a few weeks then you will find yourself being back to your usual self when using the application. The main bar that has been redesigned is all of the menus that used to appear at the top of the screen. They now appear in what is called a ribbon. ...cases. What's unacceptable is that Microsoft did not officially document this, nor did they suggest alternatives! Plus, code that works fine in 2003 inexplicably causes Excel 2007 to crash for no apparent reason.
Conclusion:

Do not upgrade. It's not just a matter of saving money: even if it were free - and it most certainly is not - there would be no point in getting a program that's less stable and slower than Excel 2003. ...

Advantages: an amazingly versatile software application Disadvantages: requires a bit of effort to study the basics
Microsoft Excel is a briliant application if you need to routinely do mathematical calculations as part of your job. It is amazing to think that accountants and administrative workers over the centuries had to manage without it.
I am not a maths boff by any means and excel and spreadsheets isn't limited in usefulness only to people who love and use maths daily, if you need somewhere on your computer to save a simple list of names and addresses (which ... ...microsoft applications such as word for ie Christmas mailing lists), your shoping lists, household budgets, your bank balance reconcilition to track uncleared cheques and card payments, there is no better place to start experimenting with what excel can do.
It can also be used for stock control or commission analysis to check what is on one list but missing from another. Anyone interested in knowing how to do this learn how to use the vlookup option ...

For the person who is used to the images of Office 2004, 2005 etc. the new skin can take a while to get used to and seems to be a bit more 'retro' then previous skins that have been included.
