OneNote persuaded me after 10 years to ditch using notepad to store scraps of information because it stays resident, is lightweight enough to switch to quickly yet feature-rich enough to make a huge productivity increase in and out of work.

OneNote persuaded me after 10 years to ditch using notepad to store scraps of information because it stays resident, is lightweight enough to switch to quickly yet feature-rich enough to make a huge productivity increase in and out of work.
Information from any of the Office applications, as well as plain text scribbles, HTML, images and even audio can be seamlessly pasted into "pages" of OneNote, where it can all be tagged and categorised for easy finding afterwards. Images are even automatically OCR scanned for text, which can then be searched for or copied (though when the image size reaches enough it is no longer automatic).
The range of sources and ease of finding information at a later date (and also its password protection) makes this application ideal for storing account details, passwords, shopping lists, screen dumps (which can be made OCR searchable of course): basically anything you would scribble down or doodle in a notepad this is very useful for.
I find the biggest annoyance with OneNote is the keyboard shortcut to open the program (windows key, shift and N - try pressing these three keys with one hand!)
My other issue with the software is its unconfigurable level of complexity. You must configure notebooks, sections groups, sections, pages and subpages, which for a simple note logging tool seems a little over the top.
There are one or two features I would not use, for example it interfaces with blogging sites, so you can send any of your notes straight to your web page, but OneNote's extended features do not get in the way of its core functionality.
Overall a very polished product which has made my life in and out of work a great deal easier, with one or two very minor quibbles.
Advantages: faster than the previous versions, easy to use Disadvantages: none yet.
Everyone is now familiar with this product, but this is a better version comparing to the other MicrosoftOffice standard softwares. The 2007Microsoftoffice pack is faster and therefore helps to get your job done quicker and easier with soem easy to use features (Optical character recognition in MicrosoftOfficeOneNote2007 allows you to search handwritten notes, text in pictures, or spoken words in audio and video recordings) the new features also add power to spreadsheet, presentation capabilities and word document.
With the Office Outlook 2007 (which come in the package) you can manage your messages and tasks even more quicker. This package is ideally for businesses and it was manufactured mainly focusing on what organisations need. Though you can also buy it for home use if you wish to. Microsoft has given it's office system a complete revamp for this new Professional version of MicrosoftOffice2007. For the person who is used to the images of Office 2004, 2005 etc. the new skin can take a while to get used to and seems to be a bit more 'retro' then previous skins that have been included.
