Wow!!!! What a change from the usual Microsoft word. The whole program has been redesigned and allows for the user to have much more ease of use and therefore making the program as a whole a whole lot better. When I purchased this product I was amazed at what I found after installing it. Even the installation menu looks pretty impressive.
It has a whole new good looking design which means some messing around with all of the buttons if you are used to the versions that have been released for the last few years. It really is truly amazing how it looks and what you can actually do with this software now. If you have never used any of the Microsoft packages then you will not know how much of a change this is but it is a change for the best. Since the launch of Microsoft this has been pretty much the only choice for word processing as it is very good and never fails to meet the users needs.
So lets talk about the design of the new Microsoft word. Upon opening you will see that it is a huge change to what you usually see and therefore you will find it a little frustrating to use. If you are one to get into a task straight away then you can go right ahead and start typing forever if you wish but eventually you will find yourself looking for the save command or the bold enhancer etc. well all of this is broke down into sections in a sort of status bar at the top of the screen. Instead of you seeing the menu headings and having a menu drop down, you will
see tabs at the top of the screen this then shows each item in that menu in a sort of status bar across the top of the screen where you can see all of the functions that are available for you to use in that particular sector.
With previous versions you can customise and add toolbars and therefore make a new toolbar with all of the commands that you use frequently this is no longer available because people did not use the function. The bar at the top of the screen that has a few commands in such as the save icon is called the quick access toolbar. If you wanted to then you can add items into this menu so that you do not have to go looking for all of the different commands in the different menus when needed. This makes the program very user friendly.
Also instead of the design being a grey of a really bright and bold blue all of the screen is coloured in a pale soothing blue. This makes you feel relaxed when you are typing away for long times as I am doing now. So as for the menus at the top of the screen that you can view by clicking on the tabs you will find that the functions that are used most frequently are placed in the tab called Home. This contains all of the functions such as text colour and copy, paste etc, but don’t worry if you can run the whole computer by the use of the keyboard all of the shortcuts are still in place so that you can copy very easily etc.
I thought that this little feature was very good as it took me a while to notice it. There are several menus across the top of the screen. This is where you can select the different things that you may want to use but you will notice that some are not always there. For example if you were to import a picture you will see that there is nothing about picture properties at the top of the screen, but once you click on the image then you will see a new tab appear at the top of the screen which is related to the picture properties., and it only appears when the picture is selected etc. I thought that it was quite a cool feature as sometimes I wonder why I can use some functions etc but if its not there then you can use it.
Another great feature is the fact that you can preview all of the changes that you are about to make before you apply them for example if you would like to change the size of some text then you select the text and then go to the text size menu at the top of the screen and then every size that you hover your mouse over you will see that the text actually changes size so that you can see what it is going to look like. Amazing it now saves lots of kafuffle when you want to change the size of some text wondering whether it is going to be too big or too small etc. the same applies if you are going to change the text colour etc, a really good feature.
So in conclusion for the design I think that it is very good and looks very stylish. All of the functions that can be seen on the main menus are very easy to use. I would go into detail about all of the different function that are available for you to use but this would take me months as there is so many. The software is very easy to use and once you have got over the initial thought of not being able to do anything then you will be quite able and back to your professional and fast working self.
Well here is something else that has been totally changed and redesigned and that is the file formats that are used to save all of the documents that you create using this software. In previous versions of this software the file format is .doc, but now it has changed to .docx apparently this is supposed to work better giving us faster saving times and smaller file sizes etc but I don’t actually know whether this is true. The main thing to remember is that if you want to use the document you are creating on another computer that does not have Microsoft Word 2007 then you have to save the file as a Microsoft Word 97- 2003 doc, this will then allow the files to be opened on other computers. This can be quite annoying if you forget to change them and then realise that you can not open any of the documents that you have created.
As this software is very new it does cost quite a lot and can be purchased at most good computer stores such as PCWorld etc or there may even be copies of it on e-Bay.co.uk but it is likely to set you back of a cost or around £100.00 but can cost a little bit more also if you would not like to spend this amount of money on software that you have not tried then you can download a free trial from the Microsoft website which is www.microsoft.com.
So is it really worth all of this hassle to have the latest software. In my opinion I think that it is as it has so many more functionalities than the previous version, once you have got used to it then you will say goodbye to previous versions forever, unless you have to use them in the workplace of course, or why not even recommend your boss to get this so that you can use it anywhere. The design is very good and is very easy to use as you can find all the commands in the places that you would expect to find them etc.
So the decision is down to you if you want to get the software but it will take you to the heights of Microsoft that you have never thought true. The step forward is tremendous and therefore you can pretty much anything that you want, soon the software will be in the kitchen making you a brew. Now that I have used this software for almost a month I have found that I would never be able to return to the other versions as this one has topped them all. Thank you for reading this review and I hope to be hearing from you soon.
