"Based on the acclaimed design of the Xbox Controller S, the Xbox 360 Controller features an extended nine-foot cable and an improved ergonomic design. The centralized, glowing Xbox Guide Button grants you quick access to your digital movie, music, and games libraries. The ultimate in gamer flexibility, precision, control, quality, and comfort are all yours."
With an RRP of 24.99 the Official Xbox 360 Wired Controller is a cheaper alternative to the popular wireless gamepad. I found my wireless controller for 17.99 which is a bargain considering there are no extra costs for batteries and/or charging equipment. The actual controllers are basically the same, the wireless controller just being slightly heavier and larger considering it carries the batteries - but the lightweight wired controller has a lightweight advantage.
The button layout of the Microsoft Xbox controller was carefully taken into consideration with the design of this controller and this is by far the comfiest and easiest to use controller I have ever used. Two triggers and a pair of shoulder buttons make it ideal for all kinds of action games (particularly shooting ones). The dual analog stick system makes game movement incredibly easy and combined with the classic D-Pad it makes this controller suit any kind of gaming. The 4 primary function buttons are in a similar position to the original Xbox controllers, A, B, X and Y can all be used very easily. A nice addition to the gaming world was the Xbox Guide button this appears in the centre of the controller and can be pressed in order to access other features of the Xbox 360 as well as for powering the console up or down - this kind of controller function was first seen with the Microsoft Xbox. The gamepad also features the classic start button which is typically used to pause games as well as the Back button which can be useful.
Another great feature is the integrated headset port for Xbox LIVE play meaning that you can use the headset by plugging it into your controller for a power source and function. This expansion port is located on the bottom of the controller and is likely to be usable with more pieces of hardware in the near future. The controller also features Vibration which is compatible with most games - meaning basically that the controller rumbles in time with in game events and action - this feature was first seen with the Nintendo rumble pack and has become a popular feature with gaming ever since it really does add to the experience.
The wired controller nine-foot cable that is longer than any previous consoles, it allows for play in a large radius of the console itself. The controllers wire attaches to one of the consoles 2 frontal USB ports; being USB compatible means that the controller can be used with the majority of Windows PCs (XP and onwards) and software can be downloaded from the official Windows Gaming site.
The inline release feature is a basic break in the chord which when tugged will come apart, this feature is unique to the Xbox 360 Wired controller. It means that if somebody trips in the cable the sharp tug will undo the controller from the cable about 10cm up from the pad itself, this is a great idea especially when you have friends round - of course the controller can be reconnected very easily by plugging the wire back into the controller. The controller is very robust I have accidentally dropped it several times and it shows no damage or change in responsiveness. The instruction manual is also very useful, but as the controller is very easy to use you probably won't need it anyway and so far I have had no need for any customer support but I am sure if it's as good as the product then it will be good.
One disadvantage i must point out other than the fact that it isn't wireless is that you can only have 2 Wired controllers at any one time. This is because there are only 2 USB controller ports on the front of the Xbox 360 console. This however doesn't stop you from playing split screen with up to 4 players because you can still use 2 wireless controllers and 2 wired controllers for example.
Overall the Microsoft Official Xbox 360 Controller is the comfiest, best designed and most stylish game pad I have ever used. It fits the hands perfectly. I would recommend saving the money and purchasing additional controllers as Wired ones as they are basically the same but by the time you have the charging kit you will have saved around 10 - 15 pounds. I purchased the Xbox 360 that came with a wireless controller but to save time and batteries I nearly always play with the Wired controller instead, as it does not detract from the experience in any way.
Advantages: Xbox 360 and Windows Compatible Disadvantages: No Wireless
If like me you own a xbox 360 and a PC and tend to do a bit of gaming on each then this is definitely an essential. The xbox official controller gives you a very comfortable gaming experience with all the relevant buttons needed for gaming on the xbox but also being that is USB compatible it can be plugged into your windows xp computer. The software drivers to make it work on the pc are available from microsofts website to download. Once done you ... ...your favourite pc games. Its also a great choice as a 3rd or 4th xbox controller when you have 2 wireless ones for your best mate but then want to have the cheaper option for when you have a couple of other mates round. All in all a must for all gamers whether xbox or PC. ...

Advantages: Robust, Good All Rounder Disadvantages: Lacking Many Features of 3rd Party Controllers.
Hi there guys. Just to introduce myself I am/was a serious gamer and have pleanty of experience with a variety of controllers.
If you want a good all round controller for no specific game then the 360 wired controller is the one to go for. Most pro gamers will use a wired over a wireless any day as the wireless has a slight delay (You probably won't notice it but it is there) and for games like Forza that is all important and may give you that little ... ...of wired & wireless controllers over the past couple of years and they all still work to a degree. Some of the analogues now lean to one side though but this is expected as they have had some heavy useage.
These controllers feel comfortable to use (however not compared with the Madcatz microcon controller, which are really hard to come by now - whatever you do don't mix this us with the standard Madcatz pads which are good spares only) and can withstand ...

Microsoft Official Xbox 360 Wired Controller This Official Xbox 360 Wired controller is a great product to have if you like to play against your friends or family at home. The only big disadvantage about this controller is that it is wired. To plug this controller in to your Xbox 360 console you plug it into the USB port on the right hand side of the console. One great advantage about this controller being wired is that it doesn't run out of power. ... ...who like to play for long periods of time. The controller is very durable but the wire can break if its not kept in a reasonable condition. I paid about £15 for my official Xbox 360 controller and it was well worth the money paid. I recommend this product to any potential buyers. ...

Advantages: Nice ergonomic shape (for my slightly >average hands). Generally good button placement. Nice clicky responsive buttons. VERY solidly built. Disadvantages: The "hats" of the analog sticks are somewhat small. The sticks themselves could be just a tad more resistant. The shoulder buttons (not triggers) are not placed very well, although not terrible.
I can only compare this pad with console controllers, which I have ample experience with. I won't mention brands, but some of them have better shape (for me), some have beter D-pads or triggers... Nothing on this controller is really "the best". On the other hand, there is nothing it does wrong, and it is probably the most universal pad when compared to others. Tomb Raider: Legend is WAY better with it than with KB+mouse, and I only wish more games ...
