I Love My Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0
Advantages: Easy to use and customize. Lots of options. Disadvantages: none that I know of

Outlooks option menu lets you deside how Outlook will run. It has different alerts for incoming mail. You can have sound playing or a message flash up on the screen. You have the option to change the size and font type and the color and to change the background color of your emails. You can add music and there is even a stationary option. Mine came with a lot of different backgrounds and you can make your own, though this is a little more complicated and I won't go into that here.
Sending and receiving emails is very simple. You can add an autosignature to all of your messages. In the signature file you can have up to 4 different signatures.
Attaching files is very easy and there are all the options that other email clients contain. Emails can also be composed offline and sent later.
Another feature I like is the Help option which is available through the drop-down menu at the top of the program. This Help option has a search feature allowing you to search the Help contents with keywords, and it lists the results by title. The help gives you step by step advice on how to achieve what you want. You can also use this feature to find advice on setting up mail accounts on Outlook too.
All in all, I find it the best email client around. I belong to several yahoo groups lists. One being the ShihTzuFriends and I send and receive a lot of emails that contain pictures of, what else, our dogs! LOL I also send and receive pictures and cartoons from family and friends. As far as I am concerned Outlook Express is the very best that I have found for this.
My Outlook Express was already on my computer so I can't comment on the ease or difficulty of downloading it.
Advantages: Lots of features, easy to use Disadvantages: none I have encountered
Outlook Express is an excellent email client. I use it at work all day long and find it extremely user friendly. It is as useful for the home user as the more advanced business user.
It has a nice layout that can be customised to the way that you like it. The mails are listed on one side of the screen and the folders on the other side. The most impressive thing about Outlook is the number of ways in which you can sort and display information and ... ...you can sort how they are displayed in the way that suits you best. You can just have mails listed one by one, or perhaps (as I do) have them listed but with Autopreview so that you can read the first part of the email without opening it. You can sort by sender, so that instead of a list of mails, you get a list of senders and then open them up and it lists the emails from that person.
You can flag messages with notes on them for follow up. The ...

Advantages: Great for keeping email organised. Disadvantages: Has problems with security.
Outlook Express is an ‘Email Client’, this means that it can assist in managing your emails, and is pretty essential is you are planning on reading your email offline, or want to take advantage of POP3 email. (POP means post office protocol)
Outlook Express 5.0 is not the newest version now (Outlook 6 has just been released), however, it is the most popular version as it comes free with Windows 98 and above and has previously been available ... ...of software that allows a user to manage multiple email accounts within one window. It allows the user to ‘download’ their email from the different accounts, to their computer, allowing the user to read and prepare replies offline, not that this matters much now as most have ‘free’ access.
The program offers a wide range of features including; extensive mail filters and message rules, comprehensive automatic organisation ...

Advantages: easyt o use and customise, great help features - comprehensive, easily accessible, office assistant Disadvantages: perhaps the fact that it can keep a copy of all your emails although im sure theres a feature to turn this off
I have been on email since I first went to university in 1998, and Sheffield University use Pegasus Mail client, downloadable from Shareware, ZDNet and such sites for free. Whilst you can download some good quality modern versions of this mail client for free and it serves its purpose very well, it is very grey and boring and when I started using Office 2000 I decided to check out the infamous Outlook 2000 that was included on the CD.
And I have ... ...I had avoided Outlook programs because there had been several computer virus scares which had been associated with Outlook, and I thought it best to avoid using it to avoid the possibility of stumbling over such viruses. But my Outlook program virus-scans my emails as they are received! In this opinion I shall list the features that won me over to Outlook.
Unlike Pegasus, Outlook is easy to customise. At the top of the client is a menu bar with ...

Advantages: Easy to use, Wizards, very customisable indeed. Free! Disadvantages: Insists on whirring with a news server that holds more than about 35,000 groups.
...one of the things that Microsoft insists on installing on every PC whether you want it or not. It's not a bad newsreader, its just there have been so many security holes found in it that swiss cheese looks solid by comparision.
The first thing to do when it's installed and spent a few minutes at reboot configuring and registering itself with the system, is to set your email accounts up with your POP3 and SMTP details so it knows where to go to fetch ... ...is the addition of support for Hotmail addresses (considering there are well over 45 million Hotmail usernames taken, you'll have to plump for something more obscure @hotmail.com). With the Hotmail addition, you can control the contents of your Hotmail inbox from OE and create, delete or move files / folders to your Local Folders disk in OE if you have mail you wish to keep. This drag and drop is quite useful as you only have limited capacity space ...

Advantages: Plenty of features, quick and easy to set up and use Disadvantages: Some improvements could still be made
MS Outlook Express is the standard issue e-mail software these days, and the new version is a vast improvement. It has all the standard features (folders, address lists etc) as well as a few extra usefu features. It also allows you to access newsgroups.
It's now much easier to set up OE for multiple mail accounts, and you can vary the sending account for an email at any point up until it is sent. You can have different 'identities' as well, useful ...
