I have this mouse at work and as I use it all the time I thought I'd be in a good position to review it.
Microsoft is one of the largest producers of computing software in the world to date. Most people are consumers of such programs like Windows for their operating systems.
They produce their own equipment and one of their products from the Microsoft range is the Optical roller ball mouse.
Looks ---------
The mouse looks and feels sleek with it's curvy features. The design of the mouse fits perfectly in the palm of your hand making it nice to use. It features the Microsoft logo and a red optical light which you can see when the mouse is laid on your desk.
The mouse goes inwards in the middle which adds to the curviness of the mouse
Feel -------
The plastic which the mouse is made of makes this mouse comfortable to use all day. It has been designed so left handed or right handed people and the buttons can be swapped around using the software that comes with the mouse.
Features -------------
This optical mouse has two large grey buttons situated where your fingers lie when holding the mouse. These are used for navigating around your pc and programs. It is a wired mouse so it has to be plugged into the back of the pc.
The roller -------------
In between the two buttons is a grey roller which is a circular grey dial that is stand's up right. Part of the dial is visible in between the two buttons and you are able to rotate the dial with your middle finger . This is really useful for moving the pages of a document up and down and can also be used when surfing the internet. It really does make computer life much easier. If you have never tried using one you should. As soon as you have used one you will not be able to go back to using a normal mice without the roller.
Optical light -----------------
The optical light which this mouse features replaces enables the computer to know where you are pointing your mouse. It will know your exact movements.
Unlike the older mice with the ball underneath, whatever surface you are using your mouse on, it will not have any effect on the responsiveness.
The older mice with the ball underneath had to be used on a special mouse pad, otherwise the ball would not turn properly. This mouse is different as instead of a ball, there is a bright red light underneath which is used to track your movements.
As there is no ball, any fluff that is on your desk will not get caught up making the mouse less effective. You will never have to clean the inside of this mouse.
I find using this mouse a doddle. It's great because I don't have to use a mouse mat so it gives me more freedom of movement as I don't have to stick to the mat area. So if you still have the old style mouse, it's time to get an upgrade and switch to an optical mouse.
Technical Information ------------------------------
Like all new technology, these mice where very expensive when they first came out on to the market but you can now pick one up on computer websites for around £10.00
Where to buy -------------------
Most computer shops like Dixon's, Curry's etc stock these mice along with all other kinds of mouse.
