I am a student (the money from ciao (not much) is helping me survive) and I am currently studying hard! I have tried lots of software and hardware over my time so am fairly up-to-date on that stuff. www.pirateeye.co.uk

This operating system is the best system, in my opinion, to use. It is simple and effective, it won't crash too many programs and most importantly it works.
Sticking with what you know may be stubborn, but sticking with Windows 98 SE is the best choice I have ever made. Upgrading to XP etc is a hard task and problematic, also some of the hardware within my system is not compatible with XP.
Windows 98 is a basic operating system and has a lot of support documentation and downloads as it has been around for so long. This is a bonus obviously!
Windows 98 is recommended over newer systems also as it is a more basic system. It takes up less space, a minimum of 600MB or something.
It is highly compatible with programs, as XP is just a glammed up version of 98.
Also the important difference between 98 and 98 SE is that 98 SE has most of the updates that you would usually need for 98.
I like... Everything (I have been using it since it was released)
I dislike... People who upgrade their systems when 98 works well
You can now get this for as cheap as chips! I recommend it for any grade system from the slow old computer to the brand spanking new one.
SIMPLY THIS SYSTEM WORKS! USE IT!
Tech support is probably the most extensive for all the Windows series.
ADDITIONAL NOTE - The virus that swept the nation only affect Win 2000 and above!

Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1 - for PC - English - Quantity: 1, 3 - 1 user - CD-ROM, Preinstalled
(+) Faster, good networking with other Windows machine, so far it has not crashed. (-) price, best to do a fresh install which will involve backup & restore of information
yeah, i dont like m$ that much either, i mena the operating systems are good, and ive done a few reviews on them , but i use SuSE Linux as my main OS, as its open source and its free, plus more porgrams are being developed for linux now. alexmonkey

Personally I think all things M$ are awful especially Win 98 in all guises. Go to open sorce and get Linux, it's stable it's renewed all the time and best of all its totally free..Baz

I'm sorry I really cannot agree with at all. Windows 98 SE is a poor product, it is notoriously unreliable and will soon be assigned to the “end of life – non supported product” bin. Also, you say that Windows XP is just a glammed up version of 98, it’s not. It shares very little in common with Windows 98, in fact it is a enhanced version of windows 2000, which was based on windows NT. Windows XP is a totally different kettle of fish, it might have the same sort of user interface, but all the bits and bobs that make it work are totally different. Upgrading an operating system from one to another can be difficult – the easiest way is to back up your data and then boot straight from the Windows XP CD and let it set it’s self up. Most unsupported hardware is now so out of date that it can be replaced with new stuff with XP compatibility very cheaply. If programmes aren’t compatible with XP, then there is a compatibility mode provided so you can still use them. I rated this as not helpful, not because you have a different opinion from me, but your analysis of XP and the stability of 98 is fundamentally wrong.
