If you've got an enterprise business with real email needs, forget the standard edition. Theres only one way to go and thats with this version...enterprise. Standard edition only offers 16GB database limit which these days isnt very much at all. It also only offers 1 mailbox store. Enterprise offers you up to 20 mailbox stores which makes for far better organization. You can have for example sales in one store, accounts in another and another for you directors etc. so its far easier to manage. Enterprise also offers clustering and X400 connectors for thoese who require them. All in all, theres really no better email software out there. Your other alternatives are Lotus Notes which in my experience is nowhere near as easy for your end users to use as Exchange with Outlook. ...

You are now probrably wandering whether you should get Home or Professional. To be completely honest, you don't really need Professional, it's just got a few extra features, but comes at a much higher price. I have XP Home and I use the computer for business, and it works completely fine.
But when it comes to upgrading that's different. You must be completely sure that the current operating sytem can be upgraded to XP. Please look below for information about this.
Upgrading to Windows XP Home:

Any Server Version - NO
Windows 95 - NO

Advantages: Perfect for small businesses, home or otherwise Disadvantages: Not Unix based, suceptible to viruses, crackers, etc
This is a good product for those who wish for pure interoperability between a Windows only network. Somewhat easy to set up, and can be a hassle to keep running. As with other Microsoft products, support may be limited, and will be obsolete within a year or so, and updating may cause incompatibilities with other networked machines, account setups, and applications hosted on the server. But, it is a familiar interface, being windows. I personally wouldn't get this again, but that's because my needs were too specific for this server software. That doesn't mean you don't need it. I recommend it for a small home business that can handle downtime once in a while. ...
