I run small business server on my small network, however on my back-up laptop which is not part of the LAN I am now using MS Vista Business. It is very good and stable, and many users complain that there is all sorts of bus etc.. I can remember the same said of Windows 3.1, 95, and many computer magazines wrote some very nasty comments about Windows 98 before the SE edition was launched. Windows 2000 was a good system from day one, whereas lets forget ME. Windows XP suffered from the same sort of problems that Vista has. namely, lack of drivers for peripherals, graphics and expansion cards. The other common problem was that many existing programs do not run on the new system platform.
Vista has its problems, but i also suspect that some printer manufacturers and others have deliberately delayed issuing Vista drivers for their old product lines in order for the user to buy replacement equipment.
Vista business is different from Vista Home Premium in the area of multi media capability, and has enhanced business features. The start menu is very clean and one can select the program required without blocking out the rest of the monitor's screen.
I have accounting software (Quicken pro), accessibility software including text readers and voice activated software (not word processing) and it works well. I did have a problem with driver failure on the graphics card (256mb Nvidia), al;hough Vista kept fixing it. Luckily I leave all my computers on line overnight and a few weeks ago the Windows Update fixed it.
USB wireless connectors work a lot better with Vista, whereas wireless cards can sometime not be recognised on alternate days.
This Vista based platform is still evolving and if you have it on an office computer, I and own more than 1 computer, I suggest you keep XP pro on the other computer. Vista and XP pro work well together.
One problem is that I did have Office XP on the Vista machine and it kept closing , whereas Office 2007 seems to work fine. You should keep you Vista computer on-line overnight as I have noticed some very hefty updates recently, which does improve the experience. Should I recommend it? Yes to confident computer users whose skills stretch beyond word processing, otherwise stick to XP Pro

(+) Faster, good networking with other Windows machine, so far it has not crashed. (-) price, best to do a fresh install which will involve backup & restore of information
