Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium is far better that any version of windows I have used, to start at the beginning the installation is more automated and easier, making a quicker installation, although in my opinion I would not recommend an upgrade, but moreover a clean install, I would also recommend you installing Microsoft compatibility software, which can be downloaded from their website.
If there is incompatible software, its a nightmare to remove and correct, i.e. when I first installed I did a direct upgrade only to find my SATA drives (64 bit incompatibility only) and Zone Alarm Internet Security was incompatible (later editions compatible, except when running 64 bit architecture).
Some Software after the direct upgrade could not be removed as the Install/Uninstall programs had been removed by the upgrade (These programs are needed when you install, or try to uninstall programs), in the end I formatted. I would also recommend the 32 bit version as there
is still many faults with the 64 bit compatibility and software availability, including hardware and software issues, especially if you have a promise chip installed (See your motherboard specifications or contact the manufacturer for more details, on compatibility recommendations). If you are also unsure about the version of windows vista available ask the retailer. (I stand by my recommendation, Home Premium).
To note however, don't worry too much if some programs are out of date, windows has a compatibility wizard which could make you program run under different operation rules, however please check for the latest driver and software updates to decrease security vulnerabilities and enable your self to get the best out of your software and pc performance.
Windows Firewall and Windows defender have been dramatically update, giving you full protection against spyware and malicious software intrusions, these programs run in real time, protection you computers processes and functions by the mille-second. In the event of spyware or intrusions the computer will bring up step by step instructions of what to do, provided this is set up to do so, and in the event of this windows will produce and event log for further viewing or for sending to Microsoft for analysis, although Microsoft still recommend you invert in a antivirus program to give your computer 100% protection.
With windows vista you can now, use and explore tools, to import, edit, manage and share all your digital memories, which included the added bonus of captured HDV, - high definition video format. You can also use Windows DVD maker, to save all of your digital recordings to DVD, which enables you to view your collection or creation on any stand-alone DVD Player, with the help of Windows Movie maker, users can add effects and multiple transitions, integrated with high quality graphics, to get the best results. Windows will also detect devices that you connect such as a digital camera, where you can easily import your images into the photo gallery or video folder.
Internet explorer 7: Integrated into Windows Vista, and has been updates, for better security, easier viewing, and easier use of RSS Feeds etc, IE7 also uses the new tab pages making browsing multiple pages easier to switch between.
Windows vista also uses the backup and restore facility created in windows XP, but in my opinion has been significantly improved, and is now much easier and safer to protect all your programs from failure, and is step by step to back up and restore, those important programs, there is many features added to this section, far too many to write about, but overall the ease of use is great, and backup/restore has never been so easy.
Windows Speech recognition is far the best program I have seen on the internet today, you basically, can teach your PC to learn and understand you voice, and intern act upon voice commands at which you verbally ask your computer to do, I would recommend that you buy a good specification Microphone and headset, to ensure the computer can fully recognise your natural voice.
For those who use Chat, windows vista come with a tool to enable you to download the latest MSN Messenger, for all you chatty people and communicators of this type of action.
Windows Vista Home includes three new premium games, such as Mah-jong Titans, Chess Titans and Ink ball, other games included are, FreeCell, Hearts, Minesweeper, Purple Palace, Solitaire and Spider Solitaire, so your not stuck for choice and a bit of fun while you work and play.
I would also recommend you keep your computer up-to date, using Microsoft update, as the new site improvements include driver updates and important security breaches which need to be fixed.
Microsoft have also introduces the network and sharing centre, where you can monitor, troubleshoot and view your network connections at ease. If there are problems you can use the network diagnostic tools, which are simple to use and step by step.
Well that's about it for my review, if you leave a comment please be aware that I'm aware that I have not discussed all of the features in the new Windows Vista, I have only elaborated on my experience and my opinion of the features useful to users day to day use, and integration of software and communication tools. For all home users I would recommend this product, with no hesitation, as it's the easiest and quickest out of the four options available. Have some fun, and enjoy this new software, with all its new features, which include High Definition, and 3D integration, in menus, the desktop and the product as a whole. Very good value for money.
Thank you :-)
