Introduction I needed an extra controller for my Xbox 360 console; there are many official and unofficial controllers to choose from. After shopping around for one I came across a limited edition Halo 3 controller. Being a fan of the trilogy I decided to buy one, I chose the Spartan edition as opposed to the Covenant one, but it was a hard choice.
Details The actual design has a blue/purple background; the halo ring surrounds the centre button. And it has master chief on the left hand side if the game pad, and a warthog with a driver, gunner, and passenger on the right hand side. It is plain black on the underside. This controller was the same price as a standard plain white one, which I felt was a bonus; I was expecting it to be more expensive. It is exactly the same size, shape, weight, as any other official gamepad, with exactly the same button layout; so no adjusting was needed to use the Halo 3 edition. I simply set it up and played as normal. With the controller being wireless two buttons are needed to be pressed to set it up (to synchronise the gamepad with the console) this literally takes ten seconds with no complication at all. It only has to be done once, not every time you want to play! The wireless capability has a range of thirty foot, which is more than enough. The Halo 3 edition has a slightly smoother feel and a shinier finish than the standard ones, but this extremely minor, and in no way affects your ability during a game. I've found that, being a darker colour, dirt does not appear as much as a normal white one, I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing however. The controller, as normal, takes two AA batteries and these tend to last a good while. One thing, if you have a rechargeable battery pack, chances are you have bought a white one for the original gamepad, therefore it being the wrong colour for the black halo 3 controller it will probably look a tad odd if used with it. This controller came with a Master Chief figurine, holding a battle rifle. Made from plastic it stands at about two inches tall. A nice surprise as I wasn't expecting it, I think it has been designed to be used as an ornament rather than a toy as it feels quite flimsy. But still, nice.
Overall The design is pretty cool, if not a little basic, but it is something different, and a welcome change. Maybe to impress your friends with? It handles perfectly, with easy to use connectivity. It costs the same as a standard wireless controller, and because it is a limited edition version it is worth buying now!
