Full review
This the wireless controller for all xbox 360 consoles regardless of whether they are the arcade console or the newest elite console. This controller will work on all the consoles. The controller itself is just as important as the console as without the console you are kind of stuck and can't do much. This controller is also wireless!

Wireless:

I remember when i had my PS2 and PS1 and had all those wires dragged across the room and getting all twisted within each other - then my mum would always complain about them being left everywhere and wire becoming a hazard. Now that is no longer a problem with the new xbox controllers coming completely wireless. I can now sit where I want in my room and not have to worry about the wire getting caught or stretching across to my desk with the controller in my hand and suddenly being jerked back by those annoying wires. The wireless system involves 2.4Ghz technology (not too sure what that means but it works very well) and a 30 foot range. So you can now walk out of the room with the controller in your hand and have absolutely no problems.
The fact that it is wireless does mean it requires batteries which fit onto a pack on the back - two AA batteries, but if you don't want to keep buying and changing batteries you can buy rechargeable batteries, which is what I currently own and recharge buy connecting the controller to the xbox through the USB.

Look and feel:

This controller looks quite cool and is generally white to look the same as the console itself. Of course there are several other versions of the controller including a blue and pink version as well as several different special edition versions such as the Halo Spartan version which I own and find to be awesome.
The controller of course has all the normal buttons being A, B, X, Y, the two analog sticks, the d-pad and the shoulder and trigger buttons.
I find this controller not only quite smart to look at but also the best controller i have ever held. It is curved in every place and fits perfectly into the hand with the trigger buttons perfectly fitted for ease of use. Some people say that it looks quite bulky but I do not find this at all and it seems great to hold, even with the battery pack on the back not causing any discomfort or problems.
There is also a headset port on the button so you can plug in your headset and begin talking to your friends on xbox live.

X-box Guide button:

The guide button is that big one on the front that is a circle with an x on (ie the xbox logo). This button is the most important button on the controller. It has to be pressed in order to turn the controller on and it will light up on the specific spot to indicate which player you are (1, 2, 3 or 4) for example for player one the top left quarter will light up. You can also have up to four players playing using wireless controllers at the same time. To actually connect the controller to the xbox is simple as you press the connect button on both the controller and the xbox and the controller will flash all lights and then become connected. The button can also be used to bring up a mini dashboard menu on the screen where you can locate your personal settings as well as your gamer card, friends lists and messages, etc.
The button can also be used to turn off the controller and the console. y holding the button down an option will appear on screen to either turn off the controller or the controller and console.

Other features of this controller include the ability to change the vibration in order to conserve battery life. Of course the battery life for the controller will mainly depend upon the batteries you have used - but in general the controller can last for hours on end with a good set of batteries.

Price:

The wireless controller costs £30 from play.com
A wired controller costs £18, but it is certainly worth spending that bit more for so much more freedom and no wires!

Summary:
  • 2.4GHz wireless technology with 30-foot range
  • Use up to four controllers simultaneously on one console
  • Integrated headset port for Xbox LIVE play
  • Adjustable vibration feedback for longer battery life
  • New left and right shoulder buttons are designed for ease of use
  • Use the Xbox 360 Guide button to keep track of your friends, access your games and media, or power on and off your Xbox 360 console

Forget wires this is the new way of gaming!

Review of Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller - game pad by Andy.mack

Advantages: No more cables, easy to set up and a joy to use
Disadvantages: A lot of additional costs

...look of the console itself Microsoft have gone in for a redesign of the original XBox controller. Like the console itself the first thing that you notice about the controller is the switch from the black colouring of the old XBox controller to the pure white of the 360's. Of course while this new colouring makes them look quite sleek it is a colour that shows the slightest specks of dust and dirt. The other obvious change is in the weight of the ...
...in some rechargeable or the Microsoft plug and play rechargeable battery pack (£14.99). I still think with the cost of the console and the controllers that Microsoft could throw these in but then that would reduce the amount of additional revenue they can make. Once the batteries are in and ready to go you hit the Menu button in the middle of the controller and it all comes to live. A lot of wireless controllers made by third parties to work with ... What a great controller
Review of Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller - game pad by mjgfish

Advantages: Wireless, very light, great for all types of gamer
Disadvantages: Drinks up the batteries

From a young age I have been a fan of games consoles and have basically therefore played games using a lot of different controllers. My first console was a Sega mega drive closely followed by a SNES which meant pretty basic controller set up. I then played on the likes of a N64 where the controller was somewhat different than the others I had played on considering its was somewhat like a fork head with three spikes. Of course I've played with the ...
...I thought was a great fit for gaming. When the Xbox (original) first came out I had a quick go using the controller and it was big, bulky and very off putting hence why I didn't buy an Xbox due to the fact I thought the controller would let me down while gaming. Therefore when the Xbox 360 first came out I had to make sure the controllers were improved since the original Xbox. First impressions of a controller often allow me to judge whether I should ... The power to control, but only for a while.
Review of Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller - game pad by Danneey

Advantages: Comfortable, no wires to get tangled.
Disadvantages: Short battery life, need to buy additional charging kit.

...I don't quite understand why Microsoft released a wireless headset for the 360, as you are unlikely to be using the headset alone. The batteries that were supplied lasted for a couple of weeks of gaming, I would think maybe 20 to 25 hours of gaming. I think I will be getting stocked up on rechargeable batteries, or buy the play and charge kit, which I have seen for sale for about 15 quid. This has a battery pack, and a charging cable that plugs ...
...would normally plug into. For a few quid more, you can buy the quick charge kit, which is a standalone charger for the battery packs. I couldn't find anything in the manual for the controller, but when the batteries are running low, the ring of light on the controller flashes alternate lights to tell you to change soon. One thing that seems to have been omitted from some other reviews is that this controller has the built-in rumble pack, which gives ... Read review

A whole new era of controllers
Review of Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller - game pad by luke_001

Advantages: Easy to handle. Smooth and small.
Disadvantages: More designs released at launch.

...the best from the three. Microsoft changed it's design slightly and went with the completely opposite colour...WHITE. And it's brilliant. APPEARANCE: At first look, the Xbox 360 controller looks like a space age rocket about to blast off into space, searching for the stars. This futuristic design compliments the Xbox 360 console 100%. The colours of the buttons explode from the white controller, dragging the player into the 'Microsoft World' Two ...
...been placed on the shoulder of the controller, otherwise known as the 'LB' and 'RB' buttons. These will feature a lot in Xbox 360 games, and will quickly become part of your love for the controller. The main feature on the controller is the green X centered within a silver circle, which has been placed in the middle of the controller. I will explain the function of this button within the FUNCTIONS section. From the three next-gen controllers, the ... Read review

Good controller for new games for windows
Review of Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows - game pad by  smivs953

Advantages: makes you feel like you are playing a console game
Disadvantages: no drivers for wireless version as yet.

...Ok to start with This game pad is an amazing idea since i am looking to buy an xbox 360. I bought the gamepad in order to use it with some of my present games aswell as the "games for windopws" that it has been designed for. Packaging Contents: In the package you recieve the controller, a reciever with a usb connection attached, Drivers ( most pointless thing in the package by the way) and a little guide as to how to install the batteries ( 2xaa included) and instal the drivers. Build quality: The build qualtiy on this controller is excellent it feels very robust and well built, The reciever itself has a similar feel to it and is quite small which is handy for people who lack space on their desks on which they would put the reciever. General usage: The useage and practicality of it are amazing but there is a downside. Microsoft have... Read review

Halo 3 fans - a must buy!
Review of Microsoft Xbox 360 Limited Edition Halo 3 Wireless Controller Spartan - game pad by  shamis4

Advantages: Great design - a cool looking controller
Disadvantages: Quite expensive

...aiming a machine gun. This looks quite nice to stick on top of your television. This controller costs £34.99 from most retailers and is certainly worth the extra £3 more than a normal wireless controller for a cool design and a nice little figurine. This is just a great purchase for any Halo fan or just any xbox 360 user! Summary of features: - Halo 3 themed artwork from renowned artist Todd McFarlane - 2.4GHz wireless technology with 30-foot range - Lag-free play - Integrated headset port for Xbox LIVE play - Adjustable vibration feedback for longer battery life - New left and right shoulder buttons are designed for ease of use - The Xbox Guide Button at the centre of the controller gives you quick access to all your favourite Xbox 360 system activities... Spartan Controller
Review of Microsoft Xbox 360 Limited Edition Halo 3 Wireless Controller Spartan - game pad by  PlopHole

Advantages: Limited Edition
Disadvantages: None.

...Introduction I needed an extra controller for my Xbox 360 console; there are many official and unofficial controllers to choose from. After shopping around for one I came across a limited edition Halo 3 controller. Being a fan of the trilogy I decided to buy one, I chose the Spartan edition as opposed to the Covenant one, but it was a hard choice. Details The actual design has a blue/purple background; the halo ring surrounds the centre button. And it has master chief on the left hand side if the game pad, and a warthog with a driver, gunner, and passenger on the right hand side. It is plain black on the underside. This controller was the same price as a standard plain white one, which I felt was a bonus; I was expecting it to be more expensive. It is exactly the same size, shape, weight, as any other official gamepad, with exactly... Read review
