Manufacturer's product description
The ArtixScan 4000t defines a new standard in transparency imaging quality with its optical resolution of up to 4000 dpi. Capturing over twice as many pixels as its competitors, the ArtixScan 4000t allows users to enlarge a 35 mm scan to a full A3 size with no degradation to output quality. At 3.4 Dmax, the ArtixScan 4000t easily captures the level of detail and sharpness required by the most discriminating imaging professionals. Microtek's unique Auto Focus/Auto Advance carriage system adjusts the slide cartridge and APS film holder rather than lens position to automatically achieve the most accurate focus. The fixed lens also minimizes lens damage and positioning problems.

...you from considering this scanner, as I have had great results and no noise from film that I thought might produce just that from it's almost black areas.
Strengths:
2400 dpi resolution, does not show all the dust, etc., low cost, pretty good software-stable-no errors, etc., Fun to use. It will pull out shadow detail-don't let my noise report dissuade you, because it has exceeded my expectations more than a few times.
Weaknesses:
Noise, but only in the blackest of shadow areas that are a large percentage of the image. A tad slow, but what can you expect from a 48bit scanner producing 140+mb? Results are worth it.

Advantages: Ease of use, speed, low price Disadvantages: None
...I bought the Microtek Scanmaker X6, aftter being a previous owner of a Mlcrotek scanner. I have an iMac with USB ports, this added to the ease of set-up of the scanner; a simple case of plugging it in and running the installer CD that it came with. It comes bundled with an excellent software package, including Adobe Photo Deluxe and the wonderful Coloult - one of my favourite budget graphic programmes. Scanning is simple and quick for the price, whilst also being quieter than rival models. Photo and colour reproduction is ver,v good. An all round excellent buy....

Advantages: Good picture Disadvantages: overheat some times
...We got this scanner about five months ago. When we got it, it was used and we didn’t have the drivers for it. Luckily it was easy to get them all I did was went on line to the microtek site and searched for scanmaker 6 and they had the drivers right there on the site.
I like this scanner it has good picture. It is also a very quite scanner. There is one problem I have found with it and that is that it can over heat. To make it over heat you have leave it on for three or four hours. When it is over heated it won’t work but all you have to do is turn it off and then on. I would suggest this scanner to anybody that want a good scanner....
