...I bought the Umax 2000P from an internet company and am glad I did. I have had it for approximately 8 months and have used it a lot for scanning pictures and photos for my hobby of geneology. It is very easy to use and came with a good batch of graphics software. It produces very good scanned pictures of very high quality. It uses up little space in my little room and was very reasonably priced. It is very compatible with my PC and I find the scanner applications easy to use. I have since recommendd this scanner to two of my friends who were looking to buy a scanner....

Advantages: High quality scans, aps capable Disadvantages: Slow compared to newer models, noisy
...slides. The un-mounted film holder holds 6 frames of 35mm film (though I've also managed to scan 110 and various other smaller-than-35mm old formats with it). Left to its own devices the scanner will batch scan all six frames: taking around half an hour at full resolution.
The optional APS adaptor is excellent; you simply drop the cartridge into the adaptor, slide the whole lot into the scanner and then can leave it to scan the whole roll automatically. Great for archiving APS films to CD.
The software driver supplied with the scanner (DSDual2) is intuitive, easy to use and offers a good range of colour adjustment options. Often used scan settings (dpi, output resolution, size) can be saved so they can be quickly retrieved without re-entry.

Advantages: high quality scans, large files, robust and intelligently designed. Disadvantages: None.
...printer then the results will be stunning. I've printed 44 inch / 111.8 cm wide and much larger prints from the 6x7 cm medium format film size and the results are impressive.
The files are very large allowing for substantial enlargements. Resolution is 4000 dpi. A 35 mm negative (using 8-bit) will be about 67.5 MB and a 6x7 medium format negative comes out at about 282 MB. Which means I would recommend you have at least 2 GB of RAM for your PC especially for manipulating the files in Photoshop.
The scanner can "batch" scan 12 frames of 35mm film, there is a 35mm slide holder for multiple slides still in their plastic mounts, a holder for the the medium format film sizes which come with the scanner.
The software is easy to use and very good giving lots of choices and options.
