Sharp R959SLM
Advantages: Sharp Brand Disadvantages: Thermostat
...and after having the same Sharp microwave for around 25 years, since they first started appearing, I finally had to buy a new one after it stopped working, after serving me well for such a long time I decided to go for this machine. The Sharp R959SLM.
It does all the things you expect, convection oven, grill, microwave. Has a LCD display for the time and temperature selection with stop / cancel also included. There are guides for different food ... ...for the first time, it came out burnt on the inside, somehow?! So i researched what could be wrong.. my recipie or the microwave / convection oven. I took some temperature readings while the oven was on with a digital thermometer i have, and it did in fact read 10 degrees hotter that the temperature i set it at.
I phoned commet - they came round with an engineer and took the action to replace the thermostat. After all of this, it is still reading ...

Sharp 98STM Combi Microwave Oven
Advantages: good cooking results, easy to use and to clean Disadvantages: poor reliability/durability
Although this combi-microwave gives very good cooking results and is perfect if cooking for 2 people, it is a very big appliance and its durability is questionable. I bought my first appliance in Dec 2004 and was extremely pleased with it. However, this appliance had to be replaced under its 1 year warranty because of an LED read-out fault. Now after just 18 months and the replacement has developed a fault. This time the fault is with the microwave, ... ...had only approximately 8 hours of use. I now have to face a hefty repair bill. I would have been very happy to recommend this combi microwave because of its ease of use and good cooking results, however because of its poor durability I feel this combi microwave reperesents very poor value for money. ...

Sharp R-259 SL Microwave Oven
Advantages: Good Sturdy Microwave, Robust, Easy Setup, Plenty of Functions Disadvantages: Not Particularly Stylish
Good Sturdy Microwave - Robust and easy to use
I've had this microwave for about 1 year since I won some John Lewis vouchers and purchased it in store. I probably would have picked a cheaper option from somewhere else if I hadn't won the vouchers. It's not the most stylish microwave but I do like the curved handle on the door.
It's definitely a function over form product and it comes to life when you start to use it. Setup took around 5 mins following ... ...a range of options for power - from 100w (good for defrost) up to 1000w good for ultra fast cooking.
Minutes can can be set up to periods of 10 seconds and there are a range of pre set cooking times based on the type of item to be cooked - e.g. meat, veg etc.
Cleaning is easy and the inner glass plate and roller underneath is easily removed.
No problems as yet, I would recommend this microwave oven to anyone looking for a reliable model with plenty ...

A very mixed bag of a Microwave.
Advantages: fantastic "Auto Cook" facillity (see review),full combination functions, an awful lot of choice. Disadvantages: You will certainly need the instructions-which are poor(!),oven times etc inaccurate, possible to undercook, terribly difficult to clean.
I purchased a Sharp R955 Microwave back in 2002 from Iceland in Wolverhampton for £249.95 and took out the Iceland Appliance Care for five years. I purchased it because I needed to upgrade my previous microwave which was a Panasonic dual micro/grill so that I could use a Microwave instead of using a gas cooker-most of my food is frozen. So the appeal of cooking from frozen certainly appealed.
The R953 is a a Catergory E 900w microwave with a grill ... ...other people who own similar Sharp ovens and they have the same problem.
Other issues include poor instructions, a very difficult to clean interior and in particular the ceramic turntable plate, some of the operating proceedures are back-to-front,staus of cooking is not always easy to follow and I've experienced difficulty when turning food over etc.
Overall, I'm still happy with my R953 because it does what I want and I have sussed out the weaknesses ...

I got a lot more than I paid for.
Advantages: Brilliant "Auto Cook" Facillity,Pleasing appearance, phenomenal cooking choice, fantastic results Disadvantages: You WILL need the Instructions, Prominent door handle not to everybodys taste.
...was cautious about buying another Sharp after the idiosyncracies I'd experienced with the R953. However the competition was limited to Panasonic which was retailing at about £270 and a Sharp equivalent. I popped into several stores including Currys, Apollo 2000 and Comet on the St John's Retail Park, Tylers in the Wulfrun Centre and Beatties in Victoria St, Wolverhampton. Tylers was ruled out as it had very little in the way of Combination Microwaves ... ...had the Panasonic and the Sharp models available. A quick peek on the Internet showefd me that I could purchase the Panasonic for £194.95 and the Sharp for £164.95 delivered from Empire Direct.-considerably cheaper than Comets £179.95 and £269.95. A quick glance over the Sharp revealed this was essentially the same Microwave as the R953. So I was about to purchase an equivalent product to one I'd grown to love despite it's foibles. I decided on the ...
