Big trouble in little England

Advantages: Great acting, direction, locations, script and plot-lines
Disadvantages: Continual re-running of older episodes

...unit responsible for policing the Midsomer villages. There is no edge to him as there are other representatives of her majesty’s police portrayed on the small screen today. He loves his wife, gets on very well with his daughter, doesn’t go up against his superiors at every given opportunity and doesn’t have a drink/drugs/emotional/attitude problem. He would be boring but for the quality of the performance put in by Nettles, although it is understated, ...
...charming smaller houses of the Midsomer villages. This makes for some first class comic dialogue between the two, another element of the show's writing which stops his character from slipping into the mundane:

Tom: “Think about it, Joyce. Every time I go into any of the Midsomer villages
it’s the same thing, black- mail, sexual deviancy, suicide and murder. How can you possibly expect me to go and live in one of them?”

Picturesque villages that are crime central

Advantages: Unique, amusing, creepy...
Disadvantages: Unrealistic?

...people’s attention. In my opinion, Midsomer Murders is the perfect ideal. It has everything your average who-done-it has, with a little extra kick. Main character Tom Barnaby (John Nettles) is somewhat of a rarity. He isn’t your token lonely, miserable old fart that made Frost, Morse and Wyclif such a success. He even has (shock, horror!) a wife, Joyce (Jane Wymark) and daughter, Cully (Laura Howard) who are actively involved in many of the plots. ...
...a dry sense of humour. Gavin Troy (Daniel Casey), his dense, but loveable sidekick is the comic relief next to his more serious boss. Together, they make quite a team, solving murder after murder in the cluster of picturesque little villages over three series of 2-hour episodes. In each instalment of this creepy crime drama, there is usually more than one victim at different points – makes it a little more interesting than your average crime-buster. ...

Murder in Middle-England

Advantages: Pure escapism
Disadvantages: Commercial breaks

...new series of the ever-popular Midsomer Murders. To those of you new to the activities of the aforementioned DCI Barnaby, and his trusty sidekick DS Troy, Midsomer Murders is all about a group of small, idyllic English villages all called Midsomer something or other, and the inordinate amount of untimely deaths that seem to occur in this middle-England paradise. Forget New York, London or Manchester, in ITV's adaptation of the books by Caroline ...
...about THE most dangerous place to live. You wouldn't want to accept a genteel cucumber sandwich from the elderly vicar in these parts lest you be struck down with arsenic poisoning. Walking the dog on the immaculately groomed village green could result in being stabbed by the over-zealous chairman of the Village Green Preservation Committee. Even joining the local watercolour society could have dire consequences, as proved by last night's episode. ...

Nasty goings on in the village hall

Advantages: Beautifully crafted stories
Disadvantages: ... but not for those seeking gritty realism

...not the series for you. Midsomer Murders is closer in tone to the Jonathan Creek stories than to Taggart. Overall, a wholly enjoyable romp through stories set in a world that no longer exists, if it ever did, but in which we’d all like to believe. Highly recommended for those lazy evenings beside the fire. ...

Murders Aplenty

Advantages: Great story lines. Mysterious. Well produced.

I'd kill to live in Badgers Drift!

Advantages: Enjoyable tongue-in-cheek whodunnits
Disadvantages: murder! Enjoyable?

Midsomer Murders is yet another murder mystery drama to hit our screens - but this ones a little more unusual! Based on the wonderful novels by Caroline Graham, Midsomer Murders centres around sleepy little villages like Badgers Drift and Midsomer Worthy where everything is not as it seems. The villagers are all wildly strange and eccentric with deep dark secrets hidden one on top of the other! Oh and there’s usually a murder or two! In the middle ...
...where it’s appeal lies. For Midsomer Murders is quirky and slightly wacky, it’s tongue-in-cheek, a sort of send up of all those Agatha Christie village murder mysteries solved by Miss Marple! The music too is suitable haunting - a sort of gothic in-joke! If you like whodunits and you have a warped sense of humour like me then you’ll love Midsomer Murders. I’d kill to live in Badgers Drift!! ...

Q. whatever happened to John Nettles?

Advantages: lots of laughs
Disadvantages: but not the bits we're supposed to laugh at

Set on the little island of Jersey we were always amazed by just how much crime there was (some of it quite risque!) when we watched before bedtime in the eighties. Now in the noughties it's just as compelling, although somehow the acting never realised quite how bad the acting was. John Nettles was great as Bergerac the detective, just the right mix of boy appeal and girl appeal (yes really) and it nicely fills the mid-afternoon slot after Neighbours. A. He filled out and can now be seen in ITV's the Midsomer Murders ...

No ITV on Sky digital and sorry but it sucks

Advantages: Football coverage and Teletext features
Disadvantages: Dumbing down of programming, lack of homemade comedy's dramas that are actually good

have said so far is good, ok then no more Mr. Nice guy. ITV used to screen quality drama and detective sries such as Midsomer murders, inspector Morse, and Poirot and there was classic Bill and dare I say some good british comedy such as watching with Nick linhurst and The Upper Hand, but now we get utter (deep breath trying to stop for splurting out obscenities) rubbish. They had a good news and Treveor McDonald was hailed a hero, but now after the whole news wars it has lost its edge and now sometimes it doesn't even start on time (Hello it's called the TEN O'clock news ao start at ten) and it is really short with an add break. If ITV spent less time in this petty war with BBC over news and tried to improve their service they would be much better off. Who wants to be a millionaire is now really begining to tick me off. If i hear ...
