I have had two of these machines over the past 18 years (the first was destroyed in a fire!). They are, without doubt, the best machines on the market. Utterly reliable, very good at picking up dirt and QUIET too - something few other manufacturers seem to care about! It is also easy to manouver and is light enough for my 78yo mum to move around her house an up and down the stairs without difficulty - AND she has artheritic hips too! Neither machine has ever broken down, nor have any of the tools needed to be replaced - in 15+ years of use. I might add that a Miele washing-machine I had (and later passed on to my sister) did 15+ years of daily use without a single break-down - Miele products really ARE 'built to last' As for the name - well, my dog ('Woof' - a lurcher) is regularly groomed with it - without
fuss - whilst his hairs are easily picked up from carpet and car with the normal head in place. The extra-long cable (8m) and extending steel pipe (1.5m) and hose (2m) makes it easy for me to use (I'm well over 6ft tall) over the whole ground floor and stairs from just one socket - no need to keep moving it around. Is it perfect? No - the Miele CLOTH bags are simply wonderful but they cost a fortune (£2 each) and the cheaper PAPER bags (and independent bags) are nowhere near as good (about £1 each) I found a solution - a 'universal' cloth bag from Comet which costs £5 for 8 and as they are extra-large and CAN be emptied, are excellent value for money. Doubtless even cheaper on eBay and well worth looking out for.
A few more facts for those who have not used/can't be bothered with the 'product information' link: Its red It has a 1600watt motor (note design has more effect on suction than the claimed power output - the old 'Hoover Junior' was just 350 watts, yet cleaned better than virtually all modern machines - Which? test about a decade ago) Of moderate weight, with 3 good swivvel castors making pulling it around easy - and stable too. A Panasonic upright I once used had connected the hose near the top, so every time you used the tools, the machine fell over! It has the usual 3 'accessories' (brush, crevice tool and small head) which are the same as every other machine on the market and stored in the machine (ditto). The (expensive) bags are of moderate size, though the latest model has rather larger bags. The sets of bags come with an exhaust air filter and you can also fit a charcoal 'deodoriser' or a HEPA filter instead ( extra cost) - both significantly reduce the 'suck' It has a variable power setting (I leave mine on 'full' - why use anything else?) and also an indicator as to when the suction is falling off - a sign the bag is full; and it does fill up too - right to the brim, so the bags look like small pillows! The high-quality stainless steel pipe is adjustable for height and has a vent that can be opened to reduce suction (e.g. on curtains) The two normal heads (one normal, one 'turbo' - i.e.with a rotating brush - can both be adjusted to carpet or flat floor settings, and the 'turbo' head has a control which alters how fast the head rotates (at the expense of less suction). Both are thin enough to go under most household furniture (just like every other cylinder machine) If you are feeling like you want to throw more money away, you can buy an optional electric motor-powered head which plugs into the body of the machine, but this weighs rather more. Like I said, I have had two of these machines since 1989 and my family have owned 2 others. All have worked faultlessly over all that time and the only 'failure' was when one was destroyed in a house fire (it caused smoke causing £40k worth of damage (!!), but the fire was NOTHING to do with the Miele - it caught fire when the gas boiler exploded! So - do you want to spend just a little more (they are from £170 or so, so compared to Dyson junk, good value) and have a machine for a lifetime, or do you want to spend about the same (or more) and get a fashion accessory? The choice, as always, is yours.
